I probably should have included the statue of liberty even though I don't know if anyone would vote for it. feels v unterrifying despite its size, seems more like a novelty lighthouse

xxxp I am very much delighted by the whimsical 'Jesus surprised by crane up the arse' statue, much less delighted by the big Buddha, mainly due to its gaudy colour than its melty fingers.

I mean, why not have a sculpture of a woman punching a tree? That would "represent nature and its slow mutilation by humans". Something like this:https://image.shutterstock.com/shutterstock/photos/157857452/display_1500/stock-photo-stock-image-of-a-woman-punching-a-tree-157857452.jpg
Or a sculpture of a woman slowly strangling a tree, or putting a plastic bag over a tree's head and force-feeding it poppers, or something. While the tree is tied up. Bizarrely, there was a tiny internet buzz back in 2018 about a 10-year-old girl called Evnika Saadvakass, who can destroy very small trees with her fists. The following clip is from 2015. Maths was never my strong point, but I know that 2015 was before 2018 so she would be younger:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS_WMy4T2nU
I realise you sometimes have to break... I mean you always have to break an egg in order to... at some point in the process of making an omelette *an egg has to be broken*. But this sculpture and the shipping crates are doing more harm to the environment than whatever awareness they raise. Unless the argument is that the desert is just a pile of empty nothingness, which isn't true. It's the kind of really bad art that irritates me.

https://i.imgur.com/7dNkHGW.png
i'm looking at this. the bronze statue of Dizang goes by, I can tell from the adjacent statues that the staff the figure carries "doesn't count". it's the top of his head. ok.
but yet, when The Motherland Calls, suddenly the top of the sword is the line of measurement. now wait one god damn minute

I'd say the pedestal might not count, but then a certain green lady shows up.
― pplains, Sunday, 11 September 2022 03:27 (one year ago) link
Yeah, it's a cool video but the measurements are weird. I was under the impression that the standard way of measuring statue height is to include staffs (staves?) etc but to not count pedestals - I get that would prob spoil the aesthetic of such a video, but not convinced that they've got things right the way they've done it.
Also, I somehow missed that Bolivia ripped off Christ the Redeemer and made a bigger one, and then (not included in that video) Poland ripped them both off and made an even bigger one again!
