There was something odd about the headpiece & the wig, it looked like it might have need to be built up with more wig? idk. made her face look very small

the dress was neat though
I think she was going for a Statue of Liberty thing, with the green dress and the spiky crown.
PS the Alyssa's Secrets with Shangela are hysterical.

I kind of agree with the wire piece, but it was probably the most fun finale they've had so I don't really care?
I sort of wish the finale was more of a two parter project runway kind of deal where they have longer to put together something for a challenge and really show their own brand of drag but it's not going to keep me up at night

Yeah same here. Also, let's be frank, the ONLY reason they just don't go ahead and do it live is because of the potential for fuck-ups and raunch.

That's pretty painful to listen to. Drag queen music isn't very good is it. Are there any other than Divine and "Supermodel (You Betta Work)" that were succesfull ?If Boy George counts then they all have a lot of work to do.

As an aside, it's interesting to see Dela's boy last-name being used, since he'd been so careful about obscuring it for so long.

I am rolling this over from the Phrases you hate... thread -- do you think this show (which is a show w/ relatively low ratings on a niche cable network) has had a disproportionate impact on pop culture? I mean when I think abt terms like "basic" or "work" or "realness" or "serve", obviously none of them originated on RPDR but RPDR seems to be the vehicle that brought them into the mainstream
or have they even entered into ~the mainstream~? I mean I readily admit I kind of live in a v liberal and queer bubble so maybe I am not the best judge of what "normal ppl" say slang-wise but it *seems* like these things have entered into a sort of general lexicon and when I think abt it it seems like RPDR would have been the thing that accelerated their usage at a v rapid rate and moved them from very nice to somewhat common
― Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 30 October 2014 14:37 (nine years ago) link
Good question and I don't know...I think it's a vector, definitely. I'd say Logo's strategy of putting up its shows, including all of this, via its website for free (and while that can be clunky, the actual app itself has been flawless on that front) has been key too.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 October 2014 14:39 (nine years ago) link
Ned as a straight white dude (no shade) who is also a fan of this show, you are prob a v good candidate for this discussion! Would you say that some of these phrases are used by ppl that you know who prob/def do not watch this show?
― Belami Young (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 30 October 2014 14:44 (nine years ago) link
I can't say I've noticed it big time? Familiarity with such phrases in my overall group of friends derives from already being a fan of said show, having seen some episodes, or simply being involved in/aware of drag culture (define this as widely/broadly as possible) for years upon years. I haven't been consciously surprised out of nowhere as of yet, let's put it that way, and I definitely don't know any try-too-hard Laganjas offhand.
― Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 October 2014 14:50 (nine years ago) link
Shade almost definitely popularized by the show, based on nothing but a gut feeling, if I can interject as another straight white dude. Are some of these terms also popularized by reigning pop divas, though? Like an updated version of the Madonna Effect.
― pleeechazunga (Leee), Thursday, 30 October 2014 16:58 (nine years ago) link
most of the ppl i know who use these terms are rpdr fans and/or are in the queer bubble already...often both
i dont think i've heard it from..um...muggles?
