camping? tell us how it is. I have yet to make it up to that part of hwy 2.
― Lingbert, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 16:23 (seventeen years ago) link
Hmmm. For some reason all my camping occurs up around Granite Falls/Darrington and not along Highway 2.

Or across the mountains.
hey Jill it was cool to meet you. Too bad we didn't know you before--you could have stayed at our house. Come back down from Vancouver if you get bored of the family and want to go out.
(Rev, good to see you too, sorry it was so short)

So long and thanks for all the... croquet
I am no longer in Seattle, so I suppose I had better take my leave of this thread. Thank you guys SO MUCH for having me and my little gang over for croquet and fun. I'm really sad I didn't get to see you again but things got seriously crazy in the last couple of weeks of Clarion and I pretty well couldn't see my hand in front of my face...
I loved Seattle & I hope to come back and sample more of its delights in future. I have loads of friends there now, yay!
love Z.

Anyone going to see Devin the Dude on Friday? Concert's at 8, I get off work at 9:15, so I should be good, right? Considering that I missed/will miss Daft Punk, the Block Party, Bumbershoot, Mekons, life, etc., I should really try to make this one.
― clotpoll, Thursday, 9 August 2007 09:05 (seventeen years ago) link
yeah, you should be fine. showbox does seem to start a little early though so i'd hustle. i bet the reverend will be there. when i played 'what a job' at the party he went crazy
― jergïns, Friday, 10 August 2007 18:28 (seventeen years ago) link
I'm not there. (Did I? I don't even like "What a Job" that much. Maybe it was just the right song at the right moment.)
― The Reverend, Saturday, 11 August 2007 05:18 (seventeen years ago) link
Show was good, the Parker Brothaz and Dyme Def were fun openers, and Showbox security people gave up trying to stop people smoking once Devin came on. He played most of the expected stuff, though I wish he'd done more than sing the chorus of "Lacville 79." Not so fun was coming out of the show to find that a couple of people had been shot near the Market.

I flew into Seatac on Monday and yesterday at the most perfectly mountainous time (6 pm ish). Mt. Rainier, I <3 U! U 2, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams!
Also, the Safeway parking lot by us got the nod for the most dangerous place in Seattle last week. Still waiting to hear if we will be moving to Pioneer Square.

AUGUST 10--A Washington man's karaoke performance of a Coldplay song apparently triggered a female bar patron to attack him early yesterday at a Seattle bar. According to a Seattle Police Department report, a copy of which you can find below, Lindsey Lawrence, 21, assaulted the unnamed victim while he was performing with "two other subjects" at Changes Tavern, where patrons sing karaoke Wednesday and Thursday night from 9 PM until 1 AM. When the assault victim launched into Coldplay's "Yellow," Lawrence allegedly told the man that his "singing sucked" and that the song "fucking sucked." She then grabbed at the man's microphone and "pushed him and punched him in order to get him to stop singing," cops reported. When employees escorted Lawrence from the bar, she "became very violent" and struck several other people (and was hostile towards police and fire department medics who responded to the scene). Lawrence was booked into the Seattle Correctional Facility, where she is currently being held on an investigation of assault rap. It is unclear why Coldplay's music apparently made Lawrence snap, though a famous June 2005 New York Times appraisal by Jon Pareles may offer an insight. The critic called the British group "the most insufferable band of the decade," adding that, "the lyrics can make me wish I didn't understand English."

clotpoll, saw the story about the shooting this morning - it looked like it was the parking lot adjacent to the Showbox? Yikes.

donut, and LA people on some thread, were talking about the yogurt craze __________ berry. i walked past crazy berry last night on broadway and will try it today and report back.
Blow Up at Havana outside this wednesday, 5 bux. i think this would be the ideal outdoor movie: looks nice, not much plot, doesn't matter if you go to the bathroom or talk to friends.

― The Reverend, Saturday, 11 August 2007 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link
Rev, it's only the northbound lanes that are closed. You should be okay getting to Seatac on the 5.

I'm drunk and I'm playing Joy Division and I'm in Seattle. Where do I fit into this thread? Finally we got some sun last night. Today is not bad either. Tony Wilson is dead did you know that? Tony Wilson is dead. Get used to it. Get your head around it. Try.

― the higgs, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 04:19 (seventeen years ago) link
I'm all in favor of getting drunk, but I'm not planning on Bumbering and I don't know from Stella. Would certainly enjoy seeing y'all outside of the Center, though. Two Bells is always good for a break from the madness.
― lxy, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 04:28 (seventeen years ago) link
Bumber should have an FAP, after all, they ain't got no headliners this year.
― Bimble, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 04:29 (seventeen years ago) link
That is patently false. The Wu-Tang clan > any other headliner they could come up with except for Prince and maybe Daft Punk. (Did you see them, Bimble?)
Anyway, Saturday works just fine by me. A word of warning, though: to get into the comedy stages, you must wait in line for hours beforehand. My attempts to get into the Trapped in the Closet panel were in vain all three days last year.

Anyone have suggestion for a Indian grocery somewhere in metro Seattle? All other Asian foodstuffs are covered, but I figure there's got a big Indian grocer somewhere.
Also, any good Filipino restaurants? I've never eaten at one and Seattle apparently has a pretty big Filipino population, right?
― joygoat, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link
There's a point-point place on Beacon next to El Quetzal, something Kitchen. The best Indian grocer is supposedly over on the eastside by Crossroads Mall, haven't been there but several friends swear by it. I'll get the name from them.
― Jaq, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link
i knew jaq would have this in hand :)
― jergïns, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 19:17 (seventeen years ago) link
Okay, the Philipino place is Kusina Filipina, 3201 Beacon Avenue S. (El Quetzal, next door, is also really good for atypical mexican fare - I think it might be the only place in Seattle that does huaraches.) And the indian grocery is Apna Bazaar, 2245 148th Ave NE in Bellevue.
hahaha jergins!!! :D

Hey, big favor: is there anyone closer to the festivities who could possibly accommodate me Sat. night? If not, it's not a huge deal, just a convenience thing.

Rev, are you allergic to cats? If you don't mind being way the hell south (at the end of the 48 bus route, basically - Rainier Beach area), you're welcome to stop with us.

Laurel, I always thought that where ever you were would be a party, and now I have proof :)
Rev, we'll be there all 3 days, staying to the end on Sat for Gogol Bordello, and getting there early enough on Sun for Fergie wristbands and maybe to see The Trucks. check yr ILX mail for details shortly.

We want to see the Saturday Knights - they're over at 5, would that work? The only other thing we're definite about seeing Saturday night is Gogol Bordello, and they don't start until 9. Where to FAP?
