it seems like now that Morbs is in some kind of self-imposed exile from the election thread, he's turning into a sort of political gershy, reviving threads to sneak in posts
Nader, the Democracts, Chomsky, and the Left this time around
― A bold plan drawn up by assholes to screw morons (dan m), Thursday, 25 September 2008 15:39 (fifteen years ago) link
No, it's on the back of his baseball card.
Like anyone in showbiz, of course Letterman was self-regarding, but it was of an apolitical nature that at least had a solipsistic integrity about it (and was always leavened with his "I'm a jerk" ad libs which always sounded admirably sincere).
fun trend: bloggers telling ppl to shut up

i think craig ferguson is the funniest dude out there right now

Cutis stfu.
It is, ethan, you pederastic little fuckface (alt nickname).

Best 1982-86, esp when Sandra Bernhard or Pee-Wee were on.
OTM. The decline began as soon as Steve Jordan left the band and that ham-fisted fuck Anton Fig took over on drums. And when the band started to play pre-composed theme music for the bits instead of just flailing with Paul yelling "Yeah!" repeatedly.

ferguson is pretty funny, he was easily the best during the writers' strike too

MacLaine called Letterman an ashole on the air btw
many x-posts

Letterman is still funny and not at all a "pundit"
― Cletus Tiffins (Curt1s Stephens), Thursday, 25 September 2008 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link
clowns interviewing pols w/ "serious" questions always = pundit aspirations
― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 25 September 2008 15:51 (fifteen years ago) link
tis pity he's now devolved into a self-regarding would-be pundit a la Jon Stewart
tis pity (but not surprise) that you can't catch the ironic tone of his self-regard or the dignified passion of his emeritus-years nightly digressions into the state of the country
― gabbneb, Thursday, 25 September 2008 15:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Letterman has gotten funnier since he's gotten more political. Props to Stewart, maybe, but it's a craft, not a science.

This was Letterman's finest moment in years, wtf. That he was pulling it off in his resolutely non-Daily Show format is just icing.

To be sure, I'm not saying Dave is a great pundit, or that last night represented great political discourse. But that it was compelling TV seems to be beyond dispute.
