or is this thread really "People who no Onion av club member actively dislikes" or some shit
― brimstead, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link
There may be no such thing as people no one actively dislikes, unless perhaps they are such hermits or agoraphobes that no one even notices they exist. It seems that antipathy can become attached to any personality trait displayed by an other.

David Attenborough? Michael Palin?
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:25 (nine years ago) link
Cleese hates Palin, doesn't he? Idle certainly does and Gilliam isn't keen on him either.
― Rabona not glue (aldo), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:31 (nine years ago) link
I'm not sure how true any of that is?
― blap setter (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:41 (nine years ago) link
Yeah I've never heard any of that before, though being hated by Eric Idle is surely a plus point?
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:45 (nine years ago) link
Yeah, I wld be interested in yr source on that aldo. I think the other Pythons were all pissed off w/ Palin to a greater or lesser extent because he was the main holdout on previous reunion attempts, but in that recent BBC doc Gilliam said that Palin was the funniest of all the Pythons, and he's collaborated w/ Jones, Cleese and Gilliam on other projects outside Python, so they can't hate him that much.
― sʌxihɔːl (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:46 (nine years ago) link
Gilliam's been quite vocal in the past about how Palin just makes lazy television, I remember, but you're right that he said he was the funniest so that may just have been interview talk. Cleese was based on something I saw about reunions, definitely and so may just have been bitterness about that (presumably Cleese needed divorce money at the time).
The Idle one comes from Cleese - he and Idle were always rowing about money and he said that Idle resents them all because he's had to give them their fair shares in royalties from Spamalot which has cost him millions. Excuse Mail link:

― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:32 (nine years ago) link
The question must be posed, is Lex an inhuman monster too?
― Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:35 (nine years ago) link
So the fit and proper answer to this question is someone popular enough and somewhat bland, who isn't the Queen.
This is probably Attenborough...its just such an unsatisfying answer tho'.
