RIP Richard Farnsworth, likable Canadian from Anne of Green Gables and that David Lynch Disney movie.

One more Canadian...

Christine "Moose" McGlade from You Can't Do That on Television.

And on the YCDTOTV note, Les Lye.

Daphnis Celesta, Thursday, 17 July 2014 08:57 (nine years ago) link

David Attenborough? Michael Palin?

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:25 (nine years ago) link

Cleese hates Palin, doesn't he? Idle certainly does and Gilliam isn't keen on him either.

Rabona not glue (aldo), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:31 (nine years ago) link

I'm not sure how true any of that is?

blap setter (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:41 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I've never heard any of that before, though being hated by Eric Idle is surely a plus point?

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:45 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I wld be interested in yr source on that aldo. I think the other Pythons were all pissed off w/ Palin to a greater or lesser extent because he was the main holdout on previous reunion attempts, but in that recent BBC doc Gilliam said that Palin was the funniest of all the Pythons, and he's collaborated w/ Jones, Cleese and Gilliam on other projects outside Python, so they can't hate him that much.

sʌxihɔːl (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 17 July 2014 09:46 (nine years ago) link

Gilliam's been quite vocal in the past about how Palin just makes lazy television, I remember, but you're right that he said he was the funniest so that may just have been interview talk. Cleese was based on something I saw about reunions, definitely and so may just have been bitterness about that (presumably Cleese needed divorce money at the time).

The Idle one comes from Cleese - he and Idle were always rowing about money and he said that Idle resents them all because he's had to give them their fair shares in royalties from Spamalot which has cost him millions. Excuse Mail link:

Is it possible to be famous without in some way, whether through applied narcissism or brute expedience, being a twat?

Palin's travel TV is awful.

Attenborough is like a national grandpa. Actively dislike.

python talk relatively frankly about themselves in public is all, I think

soref, Thursday, 17 July 2014 10:59 (nine years ago) link

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:08 (nine years ago) link

David Attenborough is a very good call.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:13 (nine years ago) link

I was about to say "what kind of inhuman monster doesn't like David Attenborough?" and now I know.

Matt DC, Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:21 (nine years ago) link

Is that anyway to talk about xyzzz?

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:32 (nine years ago) link

The question must be posed, is Lex an inhuman monster too?

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:35 (nine years ago) link

So the fit and proper answer to this question is someone popular enough and somewhat bland, who isn't the Queen.

This is probably Attenborough...its just such an unsatisfying answer tho'.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 17 July 2014 11:55 (nine years ago) link

Jeff Stelling is invariably the answer here

blap setter (darraghmac), Thursday, 17 July 2014 12:57 (nine years ago) link

I thought everyone and their kids liked that nice Australian guy who painted a portrait of the Queen and sang about kangaroo sport.

StanM, Thursday, 17 July 2014 13:07 (nine years ago) link

What about the crocodile guy who died?

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 July 2014 13:11 (nine years ago) link

see objecting to someone merely on the grounds of some pissy football rivalry doesn't count as 'actively' imo. ditto disliking someone for taking the Murdoch shilling

Kiss Screaming Seagull Her Seagull Her (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 17 July 2014 13:17 (nine years ago) link

Seem to remember croc guy got a lot of bad press bitd for putting his kids in danger.

A lot of football fans are deranged enough to viscerally Hate someone over pissy regional rivalry. But I suppose it does get ridiculous if you rule everyone out who is affiliated with a fc on them grounds.
