i ask for three shots in a 16 oz iced latte which i guarantee you a) has enough caffeine and b) does not taste like milk

― the late great, Friday, 29 August 2014 04:51 (ten years ago) link
Brew it strong, use a shaker and don't include the ice cubes in what you serve and it will always be better -- the only exception to this rule is Vietnamese style.

Let me let you in on a little secret: make ice cubes out of coffee. Sounds crazy, but it works. You might want to consider adding milk and sugar to the ice cubes, in addition. Hell, you can even add the ice cubes to coffee that's too hot! It'll cool it down very quickly.

are u saying add the coffee ice cubes to gatorade?

I was surprised to hear the Jeremy Irons character in Brideshead Revisited refer to staying up studying with lots of Iced coffee when I started trying to watch the series a couple of weeks back.hadn't really thought of it as being something that hit English shores that early. 1920s or 30s or whatever.
― Stevolende, Saturday, 6 September 2014 18:52 (ten years ago) link
Amon cold brews are not something I have ever really enjoyed, they always seem too strong and they are usually too expensive in coffee shops. If I want cold coffee I will simply chill a mug of hot coffee.
Gatorade with coffee ice cubes? Boy that really is a strange idea. I would advise against it.

i'm tellin' ya, cold brewed coffee yields a different dimension of flavor.and coffee ice cubes rule! they melt slowly

Instant iced coffee truly is not bad, depending on the flavor. I use Taster's Choice Colombian. French Roast instant isn't bad, either. Not crazy about OTC iced coffee - rather just throw those crystals in a tumbler with ice, sugar and soy milk. Then shake the bejeezus out of it. Yum, foamy. Currently addicted to this sh!t.
Instant coffee isn't bad shaken up with soy milk and ice - I like it strong, OR stirred into ice cream, esp. Mint.

xp tbh if you ask for "black coffee" it is insane to put sugar in it imo
― EMA Sumac (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:38 (ten years ago) link
like by asking for black coffee he is already asking for no sugar
I think every single time I've gotten iced coffee in this country it's just served black by default and if you want cream or sugar you put it in yourself at the cream and sugar station

yes this is what i'm SAYING. i have politely asked for no sugar after taking a sip and realising it's disgustingly sickly
― lex pretend, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:45 (ten years ago) link
The tricky thing is that sugar doesn't change the color of the coffee.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:53 (ten years ago) link
Black coffee just means no milk not no sugar but they shouldn't be putting any sweetener in it unless you ask for it anyway.

I got a drink somewhere in AZ that was horchata with two shots of espresso in it and it was called the dirty hor.

Also I am totally getting a dirty chair with THREE SHOTS tonight because i agree that the default amount used in latte type things is not enough. I like my coffee really strong tho. Also, I would like to praise the delicious nectar that is Grady's (no relation) Cold Brew. So fucking good.

Treesh, I wd make you some but I don't have a blender but if you want to get ~fancy~ some time I will come over and make horchata w/ yr Vitamix and then we can drink it w/ coffee from my Aeropress because we are young and white.

ENBB GET AN AEROPRESS!!!! It makes espresso-strength coffee that is not *technically* espresso but is v close, is v v delicious, is $30; I bought it solely for making iced americanos and it's what I used to make spresschata

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 24 September 2014 13:36 (ten years ago) link
The prob abt this drink is that to do it right you have to make the horchata and you should really do it well (i.e. use a good rice like jasmine or basmati! go to the mexican grocer and get the flaky cinnamon! add almonds or whatever!), and it really is an enormous pain the ass to strain it, like SERIOUSLY a pain, but when you are done, oh! it is so worth it.
