I'd rather have a neighbor who actually DID piss in a puddle outside my house constantly.

i got up at 10; that's not so bad.

xp you can get that in DC too!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Our street has noize of the DC public works truck (garbage? perhaps?) coming by at MIDNIGHT and then the metrobuses going by all day starting at like 6am.

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:24 (eighteen years ago) link

The thing is that I wish we were actually having all these drug parties and that Tom was pummeling me and whatever else these people seem to think is going on in the apartment, it'd be so much more interesting than sitting around watching Iron Chef.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, since you're about to move anyway.. just put on some Einsturzende Neubauten records and leave them playing whenever you're out.

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:32 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, we get trash/recycling pick up in the middle of the night sometimes. our annoyance at the noise is tempered by the realization that, this being DC, it's nice that it's being picked up at all

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:34 (eighteen years ago) link

I live a block from the 2nd Police District headquarters; cops are forever driving around going "bhwoop bhwoop" with the sirens and it annoys the shit out of me. The husband seems to think that they started doing the "bhwoop bhwoop" thing after some other city claimed it was a good way to increase "police awareness" (same with driving around with the lights flashing even when they're not on a call or pulling someone over)--but I've seen nothing to either confirm or deny this theory. I just want them to knock it the hell off!

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 17:35 (eighteen years ago) link

It increases "police awareness" but I'm not really sure how that is really accomplishing anything. YES YOU'RE A DOUCHEBAG. WE KNOW.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I remember when they started that flashing-lights thing, Chief Ramsey said he borrowed the idea from the police dept of Tel Aviv. Where peace reigns.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:46 (eighteen years ago) link

haha yeah speaking of police chiefs, I spotted CHEIF MOOSE and his WIFEY in Travilah Square yesterday. Wonder what that guy is up to? I kind of love him.

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 17:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I was hoping his book would be the springboard for a T.J. Hooker-ish TV series. Maybe Chief Moose Investigates, where he sometimes says to hell with procedure and just takes the perp straight to Fist City.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 17:58 (eighteen years ago) link

"we understand that it is important for you to hear us say the words 'the duck is in the toilet'"

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 18:02 (eighteen years ago) link

or something like that.

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 18:04 (eighteen years ago) link

And then he cries a little.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 18:19 (eighteen years ago) link

anyone up for a thanksgiving weekend fap?

I have to work on the Friday, but I'll be in town.

Re. Silver Spring foody goodness: Wednesday or Thursday both work for me.

DC Celebrity (such as they are) Spotting Dept.: I'm at a coffeehouse, and that wacky Free Money infomercial guy is sitting at the next table in his purple suit with big question marks all over it. He seems pretty non-zany right now--just having a coffee.

Should I ask him for some Free Money?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Well you should at least ask him for some free coffee.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm afraid that if I get too close he'll leap into schticky infomercial action. If Richard Simmons shows up to meet him I'm leaving.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:24 (eighteen years ago) link

If Joe Montana shows up, remember to use Fed Ex.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Sorry, I don't know what that means, I'm kind of out of it right now.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Further proof that Stephen has our dream job: coffee-drinking and people-watching as the rest of us work.

Oh wait I'm on ILX not actually working baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 21:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Hey, I'm working! Just, you know, "at home".

If I have to be in a commercial, I want it to be one of the old Lite Beer ones with all the retired NFL guys. And Mickey Spillane.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:30 (eighteen years ago) link

awesome - matthew le$ko! carly went to high school with his son, and me and naive teen idol's friend used to power his blog (if you know what i mean).

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:35 (eighteen years ago) link

On closer examination, although his bright-yellow shoes fit in with his overall color scheme, his salmon socks are a disappointment.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Stephen today I heard a horrible story about LoC archivists and LAMINATING! Scandalous!

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 21:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Nothing would surprise me about those archivists--they're a degenerate bunch. What were they laminating? And did it hurt to pull the plastic off?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:43 (eighteen years ago) link

It was George Washington's fucking diary! Although admittedly my source said the diary's content was actually pretty dull farming-type stuff. Anyhow, apparently someone archivist way back when had the bright idea to laminate all the pages. Thanks to new developments in de-laminating technology, it has since been liberated.

I also learned that Milk of Magnesia is the library's preferred de-acidifying solution.

L3sk0's son lived on the same hall at U. of Maryland as a relative of mine. Nice kid. Kind of wacky. Of course.

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:52 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah - his 4 yrs at UMD were the same as mine.

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 4 November 2005 21:55 (eighteen years ago) link

It's a solution for a lot of things!

That's hilarious--those wacky archivists. A lot of our cooler old stuff has pencil marks all over it, from earlier archivists who thought the best way to keep track of primary documents was to write on them. Who's going to want to look at these old things again, anyway?

Your source sounds very mysterious; I understand if you can't reveal their identity without being hauled in front of a special prosecutor.

There must be some kind of wackiness gene. I hope his kid didn't wear a purple question-mark suit too. You've got to make your own way in this world.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 4 November 2005 22:01 (eighteen years ago) link

his son drove a saturn (i think) with playing-card-suit decals all over it.

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 4 November 2005 22:02 (eighteen years ago) link

So would Tuesday dinner work? 'Cause TOMBOT has class on Wednesday, right? And Stephen is gone on Thursday. Whatever, I'll be there for my fermented tea leaves regardless!

I'm on my way out the door and away from the eeenternet until Monday--hope everyone has an excellent weekend.

xpost Stephen my source is actually my boss, an MLS and former DOI Library dude.

quincie, Friday, 4 November 2005 22:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, it did have playing card decals.. Was that to advertise something or was it just more wackiness?

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 4 November 2005 22:28 (eighteen years ago) link

George Washington's fucking diary

hmmm

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 4 November 2005 22:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I work Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but if that is the only day that works for everyone I will cry into my pillow and dream of Silver Spring.

at the library, Saturday, 5 November 2005 19:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Mary, I'll go with you some other night if you'd like, if Tuesday or Wednesday is decided on.

This sounds like New Haven.

youn, Sunday, 6 November 2005 00:20 (eighteen years ago) link

just fyi - mr. le$ko's son was decidedly not at all wacky. although he wore nonmatching socks every day of high school. he was all around normal. and mrs. le$ko was as sweet and down to earth as anyone. she came into the bakery where i worked and i tried to give her free cookies, and she protested and paid in full because she wanted to support the bakery. nice.

carly (carly), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:11 (eighteen years ago) link

wait, does everyone on this thread know the Le$kos?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Sunday, 6 November 2005 18:29 (eighteen years ago) link

It's the Isle of Le$kos.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Sunday, 6 November 2005 18:56 (eighteen years ago) link

i went to high school with a le$ko, and pete went to college with him.

carly (carly), Sunday, 6 November 2005 20:17 (eighteen years ago) link

i remember Le$ko walking into a dorm room i was in one weekend night my freshman year. i was very unhappy that his clothes lacked question marks, but my stoned-ness did not allow me to ask him about it.

JD from CDepot, Sunday, 6 November 2005 20:30 (eighteen years ago) link

surely, can't we give it up for the 5-3 Redskins' glorious victory over the EAGLES!

Mark Brunell for President. Or at least the Supreme Court.

JD from CDepot, Monday, 7 November 2005 05:46 (eighteen years ago) link

final bit of Le$ko trivia...also the President of the SSDP at UMD.

So, uh, are we getting Mandalay this week? And JD, any way I can convince you to come?

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Monday, 7 November 2005 14:50 (eighteen years ago) link

just call me, im busy this week, but who knows. (if you dont have my number, let me know. and let me know about some shows, too.)

JD from CDepot, Tuesday, 8 November 2005 05:41 (eighteen years ago) link

my week has become a whirling dervish. im not sure if mandalay is likely for me this week. i URGE everyone else to go, though. you will definitely want to go back, and ill be there when you do.
