One nice thing about being so addicted that I've built up a tolerance...I could have an iced coffee at bedtime and drop right off.

WmC, Monday, 16 March 2009 04:16 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought I could too but no such luck.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Monday, 16 March 2009 04:20 (fifteen years ago) link

do u guys mean proper iced coffee made from espresso or the bottled stuff?

I <3 both btw.

wilter, Monday, 16 March 2009 04:22 (fifteen years ago) link

I meant the real kind made from espresso but tbh I love it all too. Am now having morning coffee. Hot not iced.

Too Into Dancing to Argue (ENBB), Monday, 16 March 2009 11:50 (fifteen years ago) link

wait the bottled stuff like the starbucks stuff?

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 13:55 (fifteen years ago) link

today is the first day of iced coffee season!

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I am all about this. I will be brewing a pot this evening of EXTRA strong coffee for the purposes of icing it down tomorrow AM.

SO good. I want one now, but that would be be needlessly duplicative...I'm on my third cup of joe this am. The Monday fatigue is hitting me HARD.

Barackin' In the Free World (B.L.A.M.), Monday, 16 March 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago) link

this might be the most unspecial monday of the year so far

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:16 (fifteen years ago) link

iced coffee is a lifesaver - i just wish coffee servers wouldn't look at me weirdly when i order iced black coffee

lex pretend, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

sugar?

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago) link

no!

lex pretend, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link

;) sounds good to me. ppl do that with tea all the time!

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago) link

here they just serve it black by default, i usually just add a little milk for color

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 16 March 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I got an iced coffee drink from my "backup" neighborhood cafe, and they'd blended, or something, so it was like a poorly made coffee slushee, with chips of ice still plonking out and melting on your tongue. I very nearly felt like I'd be justified in sending it back.

nabisco, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I can never get a non-blended iced coffee in london metropolitan area unless I specifically ask for it

warmsherry, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago) link

what? i don't understand what this blended means. what is it blended with?

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago) link

like the ice is blended?

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:18 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm guessing it's blended with some sort of blender? Although in this case it's possible they just used horrible slushy pre-chipped ice.

nabisco, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:19 (fifteen years ago) link

that's very bizarre to me.

one more reason i'm never moving to london

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 16 March 2009 19:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm surprised by that, by the way, London-wise. My whole concept of iced coffee is that it's served, like a normal drink, over ice. Running it through a blender turns it into something else entirely, like a frappe or something.

(Does even Starbucks do that? I think they at least distinguish between "iced" and, like, milkshaked.)

nabisco, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Starbuck's iced coffee -- sweetened (sorry haters) -- is pretty good. Not really milkshake-like. And better than a regular, hot cup of Starbuck's coffee, which can be bitter.

Out of desperation/convenience, I tried McDonald's iced coffee on Saturday. Weak.

Daniel, Esq., Monday, 16 March 2009 19:22 (fifteen years ago) link

so is dunkin donuts, but i think i've gone over this before

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i was just trying to attribute the spread of blended iced coffee to coffee shops trying to compete with the frappuccino? i dunno

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 16 March 2009 19:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, that totally makes sense. It's just funny how a regular over-ice drink actually seems like a fancier/"nicer" thing to have than some blended thing. To me, anyway.

nabisco, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:37 (fifteen years ago) link

guys i really didn't know this was a thing. if i get served a frap situation next time i order an iced coffee, i'll have to send it back

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:38 (fifteen years ago) link

(I guess it just depends how much you like iced coffee as coffee or how much you like it as a kind of "treat.")

nabisco, Monday, 16 March 2009 19:38 (fifteen years ago) link

so is dunkin donuts, but i think i've gone over this before

yes! the iced lattes are better tho.

tokyo rosemary, Monday, 16 March 2009 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

five years pass...

Has iced latte always been around and I've just never noticed it? Pretty damn good

calstars, Thursday, 28 August 2014 20:27 (nine years ago) link

i hate diary milk so **ck lattes but cold brewed coffee is sublime. 1/3 cup grounds: 12 oz H20 let sit and chill for ten hours or so. strain through a fine mesh strainer and cup of godlike iced coffee is yours. taste is fantastic this way but it does use a bit more beans to make it thusly

Tom Waits for no one (outdoor_miner), Friday, 29 August 2014 00:31 (nine years ago) link

i love iced coffee

Mordy, Friday, 29 August 2014 00:35 (nine years ago) link

the dickering of salm on race (Treeship), Friday, 29 August 2014 01:03 (nine years ago) link

Peets' iced latte was the sole thing that got me through moving last month.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 29 August 2014 01:11 (nine years ago) link

stumptown's cold brew has fueled me through a few occasions this past month.

Rihannamator (get bent), Friday, 29 August 2014 01:18 (nine years ago) link

I tried out this place too: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/11/dining/the-best-iced-latte-in-america.html

I suppose you can call it a mild version of Thai Iced Coffee. Wouldn't go out of the way for it.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 29 August 2014 01:56 (nine years ago) link

i get so sad when you order iced coffee & they reach for just the tiniest lil plastic cup

schlump, Friday, 29 August 2014 04:03 (nine years ago) link

I bought adorable paper straws to drink the cold brew I make for myself with

first of all iced latte is made with espresso, not coffee

the late great, Friday, 29 August 2014 04:49 (nine years ago) link

i ask for three shots in a 16 oz iced latte which i guarantee you a) has enough caffeine and b) does not taste like milk

the late great, Friday, 29 August 2014 04:50 (nine years ago) link

like elvisa, i get it at peet's

the late great, Friday, 29 August 2014 04:51 (nine years ago) link

Brew it strong, use a shaker and don't include the ice cubes in what you serve and it will always be better -- the only exception to this rule is Vietnamese style.

Three Word Username, Friday, 29 August 2014 07:50 (nine years ago) link

Let me let you in on a little secret: make ice cubes out of coffee. Sounds crazy, but it works. You might want to consider adding milk and sugar to the ice cubes, in addition. Hell, you can even add the ice cubes to coffee that's too hot! It'll cool it down very quickly.
