can't wait for s3 with Gerard Butler and Pauly Shore

polyphonic, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:35 (nine years ago) link

Justin Lin confirmed to direct two episodes also. Excited to see how badly they can fuck this up

Number None, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:37 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I'm kind of okay with pretending S1 will forever be the only season.

Dunno about Farrell, but I love VV.

schwantz, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:42 (nine years ago) link

Vaughn's good w comedy but Russian criminal underboss is a hard sell I mean come on

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:45 (nine years ago) link

"hey what should we call our new mob/cop drama with the director of Fast Five starring Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn? something that will get people excited but not expect TOO much..."

"how about TRUE DETECTIVE SEASON 2?"

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:46 (nine years ago) link

with taylor kitsch as the third male lead and some of the names they've got circling around the female lead (jessica biel, rosario dawson, malin akerman) it's possible every major actor in this thing will be someone with a losing streak at the box office

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:50 (nine years ago) link

Farrell's been rly good in everything I've seen him in, idg why people would be appalled at this casting

(everything: Phone Booth, In Bruges, Horrible Bosses, Seven Psychopaths - even in the bad ones he's splendid. Vaughan has sleepwalked through plenty of turds, and McConaughey went about 15 years without bothering to engage with a script, so)

Starland Vocal Gland (sic), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:51 (nine years ago) link

McConaughey went about 15 years without bothering to engage with a script, so

have you not been following the McConaissance

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:52 (nine years ago) link

I've liked Colin Farrell in a lot of stuff and i'd love to see TV turn around his box office poison rep but they're making this season look like celebrity rehab

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:53 (nine years ago) link

but yeah I hate Farrell, smug, terrible in everything, never made a movie I liked etc.

xp

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:53 (nine years ago) link

Not surprising that it's set in LA then xp

, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:54 (nine years ago) link

re: McConaughey it's true he had a terrible streak, but TD was part of a pretty high profile re-setting of his career, it wasn't the first instance of his reestablishing his credibility but following Bernie, Magic Mike, Mud, etc. I was excited to see him in this

xp

mateo was two years into his comeback when this came out with his oscar winner in the can, it's not like he jumped in off the set of Fools Gold

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:55 (nine years ago) link

have you not been following the McConaissance

yeah but as you say this was part of it. I didn't check the dates but let's call it Dazed -> Friedkin = wasteland

Starland Vocal Gland (sic), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:56 (nine years ago) link

i mean hey if this show is a really wowser and upends the career trajectories of Vaughn, Farrell, Kitsch and Biel (or someone who competes with Biel for roles) AND gives Justin Lin a trophy I won't complain, I mean that's damn good tv

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:58 (nine years ago) link

guessing the female restoration project will be one of the main actresses on roseanne

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:58 (nine years ago) link

hoping it's metcalf

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 18:59 (nine years ago) link

she's already got an HBO show!

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:00 (nine years ago) link

hope its Roseanne then

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:01 (nine years ago) link

i forgot about that! is it any good? i am not acting like the devoted laurie metcalf fan i should be

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:03 (nine years ago) link

don't really have a problem w/ this casting tbh. Is there any reason to think it won't be Elizabeth Moss for the female lead?

Simon H., Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:04 (nine years ago) link

i liked the lil bit of Metcalf's show i saw. daniel stern's her husband!

farrell's like clive owen (ostensibly charming british actor america just REFUSES to pay money to see) where classy cable may just be the thing for him, and its not kitsch's fault Savages, John Carter and Battleship came out the same year, but man oh man oh man oh man Vince Vaughn

does he even remember how to act

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:05 (nine years ago) link

woops forgot colin's irish. My apologies!

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:05 (nine years ago) link

i always mix them up

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:06 (nine years ago) link

is Kitsch confirmed yet? Anyway he'll be fine as long as he sticks to glowering.

Simon H., Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:06 (nine years ago) link

Laurie Metcalf not only has an HBO show already but she's also in a really, reeeeeally shitty looking CBS sitcom starting this fall.

10,000 Jolts Of Electicity (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:07 (nine years ago) link

anyway i see no reason to think season 2 would be any worse than 1 based on some casting announcements did anyone think it wouldn't be like this

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:07 (nine years ago) link

i thought they'd cast ONE actor that has at least Woody Harrelson level thespian credibility with audiences

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:09 (nine years ago) link

would take Clive Owen over Farrell any day

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:10 (nine years ago) link

Ray Velcro is a weird name for a detective

i blow goat farts, aka garts for a living (waterface), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:11 (nine years ago) link

y'know as a buffer from the fact that they're already going to be dealing with a new setting, new cast, etc etc

"ok i dunno if i care about this story but i like (actor of repute) vs "ok i dunno if i care about this story and why the fuck am i watching vince vaughn talk to colin farrell"

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:11 (nine years ago) link

haven't seen Farrell in anything post-New World except for Gilliam's Dr Parnassus and Jordan's Ondine, but he's pretty skilled for such a gorgeous slab.

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:13 (nine years ago) link

again this may well be the bee's knees and i'm sure hbo is grateful for every optimist who can't fathom why anyone would see this creative change-over as anything to raise hackles over

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:13 (nine years ago) link

Woody Harrelson level thespian credibility with audiences

thesp game woody harrelson

schlump, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:14 (nine years ago) link

oh i know

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:14 (nine years ago) link

Harrelson is a pretty terrific actor compared to walking-dead hacks like Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino

son of a lewd monk (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:15 (nine years ago) link

i'm a lot more down w/ casting farrell than vaughan

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:16 (nine years ago) link

vince vaughan will be really interesting i think! he has this quickness. & that kinda unbeautiful frame thing, like intimidating bulk & but too sorta sloppy to be intimidating.

schlump, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:16 (nine years ago) link

i guess i didn't think S1 was good enough to worry at all about S2

linda cardellini (zachlyon), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

Morbz otm re: Woody

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

i guess i didn't think S1 was good enough to worry at all about S2

they should put comments like this in the ads

da croupier, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

of all the Cheers cast I would not have guessed in the 80s that Woody would be the one with the longest/most interesting career

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

"I have no problem with any of these actors!"

"C'mon the first season was good but not like THAT good!"

"I'm sure it will be an entertaining enough hour of TV!"
