when i was in france they had some /really/ old depardieu film on which was basically a meatballs-type thing set in a summer camp. not his finest hour.

Ha! Your post got me thinking about that one again, which led me to remember that GD's costar Patrick Dewaere made another weird summer camp film a few years earlier called The Right Way To Walk, wherein he plays a macho camp counselor who bullies a co-worker he discovers is a transvestite. I imagine there's a whole sub-genre of this stuff.
