^^ brilliant idea, but can't help feeling that getting out after your Aus visit is an even better one. On the other hand, how ridiculous and sad to have to leave a team you really like so those fuckers can play some kind of vindictive 6-year-olds' version of 'management'. If you're prepared to leave, and there's any way of letting the CEO know about this without torpedoing your reference, you probably should.

What did your boss actually say when you reminded her of what she'd told you to do? 'No I didn't'? The mind boggles.

sunny that's awful! I'm sorry.

Currently enjoying the sysadmin having a loud monologue about how he and x have minds "like a steel trap" and when they get together "ideas just accelerate" and he tries "to be mindful that people like <several coworkers' names here including two in my office who can quite clearly hear the conversation> just can't keep up"

you giant, giant asshat

aps please do butt in! my sitch is just so ridiculous at this point there is really nothing else to say EXCEPT for this:

I had a small victory this morning. My manager had her boss pull all of my entry and exit card swipes and email them to her in prep for my HR take down last week. Yesterday, I was looking for a document I had sent to our printer, which is shared by multiple departments, and what do I find but a sheet of my card swipes printed by my manager. The sheet was dated 10/01 so it had been sitting there for anyone to see for 22 days. The HR guy was out yesterday so this morning (after making a copy for myself) I took the sheet into him, pointed out that it was sensitive and personal information that had been left by the printer for 22 days and that I considered it a serious breach of privacy. He agreed that it was a serious HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act - I work in Healthcare IT) breach and sent out a scathing email to all staff. He didn't mention my manager by name but I did to one person on my team which pretty much means the entire company will know by lunch time. Vindictive? Sure. I'm having a real hard time feeling bad about it though.

also, APS, I read A LOT of true crime books and all murderers seem to have two things in common: they like torturing/killing animals and they are obsessed with being the smartest person in the room. I'm not saying this annoying dude is a murderer (I hope that's obvious) but that kind of behavior definitely creeps the hell out of me.

Using office gossip to your benefit is so fun. I did that a couple of times when I worked for the state.

carl agatha, Thursday, 23 October 2014 14:13 (nine years ago) link

She's only been working there 10 weeks and she had it in for you 22 DAYS AGO?? That's MAD!

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Thursday, 23 October 2014 15:33 (nine years ago) link

well the bastards have finally done it

after firing the director who altered my job to make it interesting, but far beyond the scope of my job title, they've created a new research manager position that actually describes my job, lists my qualifications as "the qualifications," and are baiting me to apply

all these politics have left such a bad taste in my mouth that i'm not sure if i want to go out for it even if they seem to be handing it to me on a platter

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 23 October 2014 15:50 (nine years ago) link

If you take what's offered, you can always drop it later if you don't care for the results. Sounds like sticking to your current job will be a retrograde move in any event.

this is imo the absolute pinnacle of having regular access to a printer/copier in which people forget their documents

Oh by the way I got fired yesterday. No explantation, no paper work. After he told me i was bring teimated, rather than allow me to ask why, simply said 'I will not discuss this matter any further.'p
After that he stood by desk and whined that it

Oh my God, sunny. I'm so sorry.

Probably too early to even think about it, but I guess you can go after them for many things over all this. No idea whether that would be worth it or not.

raccoon shipoopi (how's life), Saturday, 25 October 2014 12:19 (nine years ago) link

Pp researched this fool and as it turns out I he was a priest and the vice chancellor under the arch diocese in Philadelphia.

There was a grand jury hearing into, guess what??, that's right, father peeds.

I haven't fully read the 500pg grand jury document but one part I did read was testiony about a peed priest who had been raping this boy for three years or so. When the kid turned 12 this priest told the boy he had spoken to his parents and that they thought the rape should definitely continue citing religious reasons. Of course he'd had no contact with the parents at all.

At some point the priest had confessed to the arch diocese what he had been doing. He had to confess 3 times before any action was taken and even then my delightful ex-boss in his role as vice chancellor ignored the victim and parents and instead let the keep his position despite the priest being quite adamant that he he was a peed and would, without question, recommit again.
Obvious this info in unbelievably sickening and shows what an incredibly poor judge of character I am. How someone with a record of lying to a grand jury to protect a pedophile, ie zero ethics, is working a position as director of Human Resources where I assume ethics is a core standard of the position, is just mind blowing to me.
He's complete disinterest in hearing the truth suddenly makes a world of sense.

DMac, Australian idol in London? How does that work?

smoochy-woochy touchy-wouchy, (sunny successor), Saturday, 25 October 2014 13:09 (nine years ago) link

idk tbph

the same person im referencing has had two appearances on the irish version of the various shows and at least one iirc on british version

all of these are lost to youtube so im guessing they had them taken down

but anyway eh if i'd to guess i suppose it was easier, when filming australian idol, to do it in the emigration lounge of a major london airport so that you could get all of the irish in one place before they fly over and tek er jebs

this horrible, rotten slog to rigor mortis (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 25 October 2014 13:33 (nine years ago) link

You can fire someone with no paperwork and no explanation?? How is that even legal? Or is that because you're in an at-will state (or because I've only worked for legit huge media companies who protect themselves with 100 layers of administration)?

UGH what a collective noun of profanities.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Saturday, 25 October 2014 13:50 (nine years ago) link

It's really fishy. Yeah, it's an at-work state and the ball is completely in the employer's hand... But, there's always paperwork.

pplains, Saturday, 25 October 2014 14:14 (nine years ago) link

That write up for lateness was totally a feeble attempt to create a paper trail to justify the termination. I'm pretty sure they're going to fight you on unemployment benefits, too, sunny.

carl agatha, Saturday, 25 October 2014 14:21 (nine years ago) link

I mean it's blatantly obvious that they wanted to vacate or eliminate the position so these ding dongs decided to engage in some petty Game of Thrones shit to try to avoid paying unemployment.

I don't know if any of this is illegal though. Shitty on a human and a business decision level but that may be it.

(Not legal advice. Consult a local lawyer. Don't listen to me. I'm an idiot.)

carl agatha, Saturday, 25 October 2014 14:26 (nine years ago) link

My bosses, employment attorneys, say that at the end of the day ALL states are at-will. Some have implied contract laws and other partial protections, but they're weakly enforced and seriously limited by courts' interpretations. Basically in the U.S., unless you have a contract, you can be fired for no reason at all. Paperwork helps the company protect itself from charges of actual illegal firing (e.g., discriminating against people w/ ADA-covered emotional disorders) but it's not required. (Half-baked paralegal conclusions and second-hand lawyer opinions. Don't listen to me. I'm an idiot.)

Anyway I'm sorry, sunny. That's shit. I hope you quickly get a better situation so you can enjoy being free of those people.
