idk she seems pretty fucking capable

in any case, she's my candidate. i'm not voting for a clinton. i voted green in 2012 and will do so again if i don't like the candidate.*
* i don't dislike obama as far as democrats go, and don't regret my 2008 vote, but i couldn't abide all the pointless killing

This election will be primetime for third-party candidates.

she seems pretty fucking capable
atm no one can move the senate to do anything in almost any direction, and the house is an even harder nut to bust if you don't have wingnut cred.
― oh no! must be the season of the rich (Aimless), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 20:15 (nine years ago) link
yeah that's why she should run for president.

she can do more good in the senate

lol at Paul's disparity between statements and voting record
― Clay, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 20:30 (nine years ago) link
interesting, in that chart, that rand paul's public issue statements are rated as the 3rd least conservative, and his public voting record as the most conservative by far.
xpost yep

And Santorum's public statement bark outweighing his voting record bite. Interesting chart.

that's why she should run for president
I have no objection to warren being president, but this doesn't change the fact that, without any leverage over congress, she'd be a reduced to a placeholder. just being president doesn't ensure you can accomplish much, unless you can command enough votes in congress.
― oh no! must be the season of the rich (Aimless), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 20:43 (nine years ago) link
guys she would never win. never.

re: chart. what amuses me most is the scale of 0 - 100. if Christie rates a zero on that scale on any category, it lacks a certain granularity at the low end.
― oh no! must be the season of the rich (Aimless), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link
only way progressives can have sway over candidates is to pump money into causes and energy into legislators' call centers.
― guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link
paul is legit terrifying. i wonder how much of the millennial vote he could cut into by being pro-pot and rhetorically (though not legislatively) anti-war
― prolego, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link
he won't come out as pro-pot

Ron Paul sponsored a legalization bill in the House (along w Barney Frank). then when he ran for President he said legalization should be up to the states. fancy that.

Everyone hates wall street though. And her message is all on that postwar nostalgia/rising middle class kick my radical friends hate but America loves. Funding might become less of an issue now that people spend more time on social media than they do watching tv. I know this has not happened YET...

idk how many votes a president could get by being explicitly pro-pot but it seems like you'd gain more votes than you'd lose (from millennials, from boomers, from big pot money, etc) so i gotta figure it's coming sooner than later.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link
nah, all a candidate has to do is blow some racial dogwhistle shit about black and brown people high on drugs and no longer locked up in our wonderful prison system and there ya go, pro-pot candidate is damaged goods

ie it's ok for most of America if white people with "medical needs" get away w it, but full-blown legalization means fewer non-white people in jail, can't have that

you have a greater chance at alienating old folks than getting stoners to go door to door for you, even if the majority of the country is for it it's gonna be a long time before any politician can embrace the issue

it's going to be like gay marriage - it's going to happen at the state level first, which will spur legal challenges, which will slowly percolate up to the federal level. Perhaps relevant to note that we have never had a presidential candidate that supported gay marriage btw.
xp

I stand by my claim that Cruz both looks and sounds like too much of a bitch to win a national election. Positions be damned. American voters are fickle and superficial as fuck.
