knew a dude who ran sound at bars in eau claire who worked a day job doing tech/sound/camera stuff for those menards commercials in the 90s, said the menards guy was a chill dude

sometimes ppl will bring up some Twin Cities/MN thing and I'll be all "... did I even grow up there because I don't remember that AT ALL"

this is not one of those things; I will be humming this jingle through the weekend

I haven't lived in MN since 1990 and I don't think a single day elapses without the menards jingle playing in my brain.

best wikipedia paragraph of all time:

"Menards commercials are accompanied with banjo music played by Gary Shaw of Wisconsin.[8] In reference to creating the musical piece, Shaw said, "I just started playing on it and they said, 'That's perfect; that's exactly what we need.' Took me a half an hour. I got $50 for a one-time fee, and I've had to listen to that commercial every day for 20 years." Spanish commercials are accompanied with a mariachi mix of the banjo accompaniment."

Tombstone (we piiiiile on the goodness/we're loaded with real cheese/we're SURE our pizza's gonna PLEASE/YOUR/FAMILIES"

work function holiday buffet was some of the worst food i've had this side of the knock-off benihana in maplewood my brother dragged me to

goole, Wednesday, 7 January 2015 20:48 (nine years ago) link

is dick's last resort the one with "sassy" waitresses that insult you and shit?

i think my mom was telling me about that

i went to Little Tiajuana's again for the first time since it reopened a couple years ago, p much the same, Don Pablo's level food in a scungy environment staffed by complete passive aggressive loonies. now it's not even open after bar time which sort of makes me wonder why it even exists. def feels like a relic from a long-past (thankfully) era in minneapolis mexican food. i'm sure you could find a better place literally every two blocks on lake street now.

Eric H., Wednesday, 7 January 2015 21:28 (nine years ago) link

when I moved away the answer to this my family came up with was "Chi-Chi's" so I'm interested in the answer for my future visits

I am sitting in a Houston bound for MSP. Can anybody recommend a good used video games shop? The only one I remember was a neat place way out in Shakopee, but nothing that's much closer to town.

Also, they're putting me up in the scenic urban neighborhood that is Inver Grove Heights once again.
