is rubio really dumb enough to not understand that he's the runner-up Floridian, the runner-up hispanic Senator/lawyer, and the runner-up Gen X'er? whose VP does he think he'd be?

President Obama says he “loves” the Bush family personally and that former Florida governor and possible 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush has “every right” to run in 2016.

In 2016, clear choice, or clear trauma?

One outcome of and proof for ideological polarization is the way it has made stalwarts appear like centrists. In what world is Hillary Clinton — feminist heroine, author of Hillarycare, sworn enemy of the vast right-wing conspiracy — not progressive enough?

aaaahahahahaha. two sentences in!

one of the worst things about presidential elections is all the "WHY THIS CANDIDATE MATTERS" bullshit for candidates that have zero fucking chance of making it anywhere beyond a few weeks of recognigtion in the primaries

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 9 January 2015 23:10 (nine years ago) link

Mittens only won his party's nomination once. If he is now 'considering' another run, it basically means he's hoping that a ton of party bigwigs and moneybags will beg him to run again and they'll all but promise him the nomination if he runs. Won't happen.

Harold Stassen was the GOP front-runner for a while in '48 and won a few states. In '52, he only won his home state.

two weeks pass...

“He has been reluctant to speak too openly on the campaign trail about his faith out of a concern that people would believe his motivation for running was based on an attempt to convert others to his faith,” said Tagg Romney, the eldest of Mitt and Ann’s five adult sons.

No, I don't think that's what was rubbing people the wrong way at all.

pplains, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:49 (nine years ago) link

Evangelicals weren't concerned about Mitt Romney showing up on their doorstep with a necktie and short-sleeve shirt. They opposed Romney because they believe LDS is a weird non-canon aberration of Christianity.

pplains, Tuesday, 27 January 2015 14:52 (nine years ago) link

In the end, much of the GOP base went with him instead of Obama not because they thought Obama would try to turn the United States into Black America, but because he was black.

"After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I've decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee," Romney said

Because, as we all know, had Mitt entered the race those other leaders of the party would have had no opportunity to be the nominee. They needed him to give it to them, generous guy that he is.
