i don't want to be part of the backlash. really hoping this is a good season.

I just watched the first 2 episodes of Season 1. The two girls are likeable I spose but its not funny enough to get into tbh
― everyday sheeple (Michael B), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 19:26 (nine years ago) link
watch some of the better ones from season 1 (i like ep5 with the sketchy DJs, and ep9 with the real estate agent) before you make a decision -- i find virtually every sitcom can't really be judged on the first 1-2 episodes

despite seeming not that in S1E1, not that in a very great way

ilana's shoutout to/stop-comparing-us-to Girls in that interview kinda kiboshes my, um, comparison upthread. but while completely different it's so much better, and the discourse was always gonna lump them together /notsorry
― rae sredrum (imago), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 19:50 (nine years ago) link
abbi and ilana are legit funny and actually likable which makes it into an entirely different thing than girls imo
― Mordy, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 19:52 (nine years ago) link
it's more like workaholics only less doofy and not suburban and with women
― valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 19:54 (nine years ago) link
cant compare the two - girls is a dramedy. broad city is a zippy zingy (albeit quirky) 20 min sitcom
― everyday sheeple (Michael B), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 19:56 (nine years ago) link
Girls pretends to be poetic, Broad City is poetic

I loved the first season of Girls and just started watching Season 4 now without having seen S2 and 3. It dropped off a bit, I take it?
― everyday sheeple (Michael B), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 20:09 (nine years ago) link
workaholics is a p good comparison
― Darin, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 20:10 (nine years ago) link
That also applies to any Workaholics comparison.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:12 (nine years ago) link
I feel that I'd last longer talking to the characters Abby and Ilana play than the Workaholics characters, though. They're constantly over the top, the women seem relatable if ridiculous
― valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:34 (nine years ago) link
I positively loathe the three lead characters on Workaholics. Maybe irl they're decent likable fellas, but I don't even want to find out.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:37 (nine years ago) link
you know they don't exist irl and neither do the sitcom abby and ilana, right? :)
― valleys of your mind (mh), Wednesday, 14 January 2015 21:42 (nine years ago) link
ugh dont compare bc to fuckin workaholics
― adam, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 22:57 (nine years ago) link
workaholics is almost as bad as the league as far as unfunny shit on netflix goes
― adam, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 22:58 (nine years ago) link
Ugh, The League.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 January 2015 23:03 (nine years ago) link
I'm watching workaholics right now. It's fucking terrible.

Workaholics has a lot of funny stuff on it, and the comparison to Broad City is apt in some ways. The latter is probably a better show overall.
― JRN, Thursday, 15 January 2015 00:39 (nine years ago) link
Broad City is DEFINITELY a better show. Workaholics was ok until the last season, which was garbage, but once better shows started coming on CC (BC, Review, Kroll Show, etc etc) I stopped watching Workaholics.
Only episodes of The League I've seen are the two centered on Jason Mantzoukas' character, which seem like a better concept for a show than the one the show is centered around.

I was about to ask if that is the dude who plays Raffi, but of course it is
― valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 15 January 2015 03:23 (nine years ago) link
We like the League fine, but wow, is it pretty much the laziest comedy on TV. Basically, barely there plot setups, horrible LA as Chicago, mostly them insulting each other, and when in doubt, Raffi. Who, to be fair, is a) a perfect OTT character and b) probably could not support his own show, thank goodness, which would quickly become a more extreme version of Workaholics. Which I liked for a few seasons and then, poof, no more interest My wife couldn't take Review, but I want to give it more time. Kroll Show, I started it but didn't get into it, but I hear it gets better. Broad City is ace, Amy Schumer hit or miss with glorious hits, Key & Peele still mostly great, Nathan For You short but sweet. Golden Age of Comedy Central stuff.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 15 January 2015 03:54 (nine years ago) link
Amy Schumer is horribly racist fuck her forever. Review is incredible. But BC is best
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 15 January 2015 03:56 (nine years ago) link
I'm still making it thru the first season and it took me 7 episodes to realize Bevers wasn't gay
― Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 15 January 2015 03:59 (nine years ago) link
I've just gotten into Kroll Show recently since it's ending this year. It's up there with Key and Peele for excellence in editing/production values. (Also it is frequently hilarious.)
― Simon H., Thursday, 15 January 2015 04:44 (nine years ago) link
oh my god i just watched all of review tonight. i don't know that a show has ever made me so depressed before. so dark.

if you'd like something upbeat, may i recommend sex house?
― shmup....smug....shmub....shmug.... (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 15 January 2015 06:06 (nine years ago) link
lol sex house was better maybe bc it was more sartre than job
― Mordy, Thursday, 15 January 2015 06:11 (nine years ago) link
I don't understand why people think Key and Peele is funny. :(
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 15 January 2015 13:56 (nine years ago) link
wish I still had regular access to weed though, man.
Living in a particularly US state (and not traveling to any others all year) has honestly made me forget that this is a thing that people have to think about. Like "why don't you just go to the weed store?".
Anyway I heard vague things about this show last spring, don't have cable, recently got a Roku after having a baby and noticed this was on Amazon during one of my late night baby-feeding / TV watching stints. I totally love it, much more than any other show I've discovered lately mostly due to the dirtbagginess of Abby and Ilana that reminds me of people I know much more than any other "young single people living in New York" TV characters that I find really unrelatable.
I watched 3 seasons of Key & Peele and think it's generally pretty great but a bit inconsistent so who knows.

And I keep hearing about Workaholics but something about seeing this guy enrages me so much that I just can't bring myself to ever consider watching ithttp://guycodeblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/workaholics_blake_r3.jpeg
― joygoat, Thursday, 15 January 2015 15:03 (nine years ago) link
The League isn't a great show that I'd rep for, but it's def better than one would expect at times. It was my favorite sitcom to hate that I'd never seen for a while. The Raff guyi and Kroll carry the show for the most part.

this is super OTM.

As mentioned I was watching this recently with my parents and there were a handful of dirtbag situations that Abby and Ilana found themselves where I almost said, "Ha! That's happened to me!" but then remembered I was watching this with my parents and kept quiet.

where are people watching new Broad City btw? like, actual cable or less-than-legal channels? i don't really mess around with either. :/

iTunes. I could easily get it freely from any number of sources but I want to support these chicas.
