77 effectively a refuge from meanspiritedness when irl shitheads are targetting identifiable posters on the rest of ilx

o yeah, agree completely w/ you there. there's truth to the "self-congratulatory echo chamber" accusation, too, but i'm dubious about the potential positive effects of an upsurge in brutal takedowns.
― deliberately clunky, needlessly arty, (contenderizer), Thursday, 22 January 2015 22:43 (7 minutes ago)
sure but brutal takedowns are not remotely the only or the best response to that, treesh is a good example of someone who has no interest in that sort of style but is inimical to 'otm'
partly this is because of the concretization of experience afters on the internet and tiredness with saying shit, as seen in the recent and hopefully shortlived parodic use of 'hot take'
that 14 yr old derrida thread someone revived the other day was full of takes so caustically hot that derrida died of the radiation burns two years later, but even in that very naive discursive mode it produced content because there was a strong enough diversity amoing the takes and a certain level of care

as seen in the recent and hopefully shortlived parodic use of 'hot take'
seems like ilx is a little more porous to usage trends happening in the wider internet esp. twitter. it still has it's somewhat hermetic character (we still say "otm") but less self-enclosed than it used to be.
just so it stays distinct enough from chan or reddit speak and i'll be fine. as soon as people start with "tfw" jokes i am fucking gone

i think it's strictly in terms of information that ilx has become basically 98% porous to the rest of the internet, i can't turn my head from one interwebthing to another w/o seeing the same shit over and over

There is a part of me that would love to dress up like a shit failed mod for the hilarity factor. Comb over the bald spot, try not to look like a crimewatch photo-fit and wear a completely ill fitting suit for the first time in my life, viola! instant ace face tragedy! Once an uncle of mine who was a survivor of Artane child abuse travelled to Dublin for a witness court appearance, symbolically dressed up as a catholic priest, with dog collar, robes et al.

gotta go w/ordinary combustibles let's me honest. that includes wood which means trees, houses, huge ships in wet dock going up in flames, the smoke everywhere, great billowing columns blackening the dawn, what ho, the ships are on fire, our ships, our great ships, the ships our fathers built, behold, they are in flames
ordinary combustibles for sure

today at the salvation army i offered a hipsterish young person the vintage pendleton field shirt that was too small for me and he didn't know what pendleton was. i didn't how to proceed from there because i had assumed he'd be primed for apeshit but it was a good and quality american garment of fine workmanship and i felt that there was an outside chance that it would find a way into his rotation because of intrinsic qualities and not hey look i'm in fleet foxes now.― slugbuggy, Friday, February 20, 2015 11:13 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
