"After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I've decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee," Romney said

Because, as we all know, had Mitt entered the race those other leaders of the party would have had no opportunity to be the nominee. They needed him to give it to them, generous guy that he is.

which of our beloved politicians is that?

Aimless, Monday, 2 February 2015 18:34 (nine years ago) link

Chris Christie came out as "pro vaccination choice". His presidency would be a threat to public health on a level we haven't known for a long time.

Tomás Piñon (Ryan), Monday, 2 February 2015 18:37 (nine years ago) link

Chris Christie, right? I think so, but it's definitely a blur of clumsiness.

xp Chris Christie

Chris Christie came out as "pro vaccination choice".

This week. Next week he'll have an entirely different stance.

Sounds like a bumper sticker to me.

God that Romney thing is so great. "Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs, actually." All you have to do is get this guy ad-libbing and he starts digging his own grave

While we're at it, we must retrospectively censure SNL for making fun of Gerald Ford's inability to walk down stairs without stumbling. It was nothing but childish bullshit and those who laughed at it should have been ashamed of themselves.

isn't "vaccination choice" the current system?

poxy fülvous (abanana), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 06:55 (nine years ago) link

isn't "vaccination choice" the current system?

Strictly speaking, yes. Many public school systems will not allow you to enroll your child without proof of vaccinations. However, the anti-vaccination crowd probably has a good-sized overlap with the home school crowd.

Seems weird that this issue has enough traction to get play in a presidential campaign. That is very wtf.

Aimless, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:32 (nine years ago) link

The two I know are home schooling their kids, so that checks out.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:36 (nine years ago) link

In MS, homeschooling is just about the only way to successfully avoid vaccinating one's kids. There's a bill pending that would allow homeschooled kids to play sports and join extracurricular clubs in their local public school district, allowing them to have all the fun stuff without having to deal with any of that pesky education crap; I hope that bill plugs the vaxx loophole.

Walker's campaign spokeswoman emailed the following statement: "Governor Walker believes our fight against ISIS is one of the most important issues our country faces. He was in no way comparing any American citizen to ISIS. What the governor was saying was when faced with adversity he chooses strength and leadership. Those are the qualities we need to fix the leadership void this White House has created."

“Triangulation is not a strategy that will move America forward,” O’Malley said, referring to a term for compromise that was coined during the presidency of Bill Clinton. “History celebrates profiles in courage, not profiles in convenience.”

the similarity in their career arcs is interesting - made it to the White House, leaves on a sour note, reinvents self as elder stateswoman, hangs around long enough/collects enough chits to be guaranteed the nomination. and then on the personal level she does seem awkward and nervous and not all that likable. digs wars, especially ones that are politically expedient on the domestic front. hates her spouse.

it all makes sense
