oh that's not the blonde lady from Melrose Place. it's Chyna Phillips. same diff, though.
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link
oh, but you were right the first time! it's both of them! truly heinous haircut
this girl in my hs class got that haircut and WOW was it bad. it was trying to be sort of pixie-ish but they got it all wrong and it was 100% bowl. she was not happy.
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:53 (sixteen years ago) link
i think it's made extra bad by the fact that the back was so short. if the back had been just a little longer it might have achieved a shaggy cuteness...maybe. but the back was extremely shorn and the front was wall-of-bangs. yuk.
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:54 (sixteen years ago) link
has anyone ever seen that blonde lady from Melrose Place and Chyna Phillips in the same place at the same time?
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:54 (sixteen years ago) link
i am no one to talk, tho -- i had an a-sym.
hahaha no...but they might have been in a lifetime movie together as twinz
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:55 (sixteen years ago) link
my mom cut my bangs in middle school. it was traumatic. also, bangs are not for me.
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:56 (sixteen years ago) link
it's only appropriate that the 90s came in with a haircut that was just 100% bangs -- they got rid of everything else that went along with big hair and focused on the one thing that mattered: BANGS.
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:57 (sixteen years ago) link
"Hold On" is in my head now.
xpost omg that's totally correct, Amanda!
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:58 (sixteen years ago) link
i am sorry about the song. i do not take responsibility for that. break free from the chains.
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:00 (sixteen years ago) link
That 90s thread mystifies me.
― dan m, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:04 (sixteen years ago) link
oh, it's okay; I like "Hold On."
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:05 (sixteen years ago) link
it's not really how i remember the 90s, but i went from being 15 to 25 during the 90s, so that was a lot of ground covered.
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:05 (sixteen years ago) link
remember Carnie Wilson all in, like, a trenchcoat on the beach in that video. ;_;
The breakdown in that song would be hilarious if it was re-imagined as a straight-edge hardcore anthem.
― dan m, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:06 (sixteen years ago) link
Actually, the whole song would!
i guess i was 14 at the beginning of 1990, actually
yeah, i always felt for carnie because of her name. that was a step too far, brian wilson.

I haven't really read the nineties thread but whoever posted the logo for Baz Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet otm.

HAROLD AND KUMAR
― n/a, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link
ie that's all I think about when I think about "Hold On."
I know this pain Why do lock yourself up in these chains? No one can change your life except for you Dont ever let anyone step all over you Just open your heart and your mind Is it really fair to feel this way inside?
People could totally pick up change to someone screaming this.
― dan m, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link
the harold & kumar connection might be why I like "Hold On," to be fair. cute boyz
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:09 (sixteen years ago) link
i have never seen that movie so all i see is shannon, my 9th grade bff totally getting down to this and indigo girls while i scowled at her and wondered why we were still friends at all

I don't understand that line, "someday somebody's gonna make you wanna turn around and say goodbye."
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link
The picture of the hardcore band singer I included with that post seems to have disappeared already.
― dan m, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link
But yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense anyway.
why are you not mine, Kal Penn?
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:14 (sixteen years ago) link
the only thing shannon and i could agree on was concrete blonde because i was totally obsessed with this dude named joe and she liked the song about god getting his ass kicked.
who is kal penn?
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:14 (sixteen years ago) link
Kumar of "Harold and" fame
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link
oooh i see
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:16 (sixteen years ago) link
i am going to dig out concrete blonde tape right now
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link
I think she means that someday somebody is going to make you want to say goodbye and turn around (and leave), but don't! Hold on to your codependent! And don't turn around and then say goodbye because the person might not hear you!

Kal Penn's real name was a crossword clue a few weeks ago.
― Jordan, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link
but it's so weird because right after that line, she sings, "until then, baby, don't let 'em hold you down and make you cry" as though the moment when someone makes you want to turn around and say goodbye is like, a fateful event that will be some sort of turning point?
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't know Kal Penn's real name.
she can't be expected to make any sense with that haircut.
― La Lechera, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link
Kalpen Modi (an Indian dude I work with reiterates this for some reason)
― Jordan, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link
ha! there are people out there more creepily obsessed with kal penn than I!
― horseshoe, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link
Kal Penn reminds me of my friend Amar from middle and high school, though last I heard Amar was heavy into martial arts so he's probably not as cool as Kal Penn.
― n/a, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link
His dad was a Mountie.
Amar's, not Kal Penn's (as far as I know).
