Let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-workers

Mostly cuz I'm a month overdue rolling off my last project as a manager and no end date in sight.

Oh good, a poster I spent ages working on and that just needed one much-delayed name dropped in to a space I'd carefully left marked in order to be made complete was then mucked around with and "redesigned" by my boss when she was putting that name in on my day off. And now she's eating a big plate of peanut-buttered toast at her desk a metre away which is making my feeble anaphylactic throat and heart hurt.

Um if youre deadly allergic to nuts she shouldnt be allowed to have them in the office surely? :| Also she sounds like a dick.

Yeah I'd go to HR immediately.

I also think it's gross when people bring dogs in the office. I mean, yay, stress relief, but boo asthma.

One manager brought her dog to her open office. Went to an afternoon meeting. Mutt whimpered for two hours straight.

I love office dogs and office babies/kids, but totally totally understand why people wouldn't.

Not cool to have to put up with peanut butter in your area when you're allergic, though.

On the allergy tip once my office decided to have the stupidest theme day ever: "wear tons of perfume/cologne", with prizes for guessing the smells, most obnoxious scent etc. I am not even joking. I think I privately emailed my boss and said "are you kidding? I'll end up with a migraine, i am kind of allergic to strong perfumes" and they called it off and kind of made it clear I was the spoilsport which was embarrassing :(

That's insane. My former workplace office (current employer but I work from home bitchez) had signs up asking everyone not to wear strong perfume.

On the 'stupid, annoying coworkers' tip, I can't believe I have never mentioned this guy here, but I once had a 'manager' who was the sales-iest, cheesiest doofus ever whose 'thing' was guessing women's perfumes to impress them. I remember on his first day he did it to one of the cool office ladies who had a lot of political power in that company, and he kind of did it subtly in conversation and she thought it was cool, and it came off okay. Then he tried to do it with every single other woman he met in the office. It was such an obvious, lame 'trick' and I hated him instantly.

We have a suggestion box on our company intranet where we are given the option to submit comments signed, or anonymously. This is the fun that you get to have when you attempt to submit anonymously.

I made a strongly worded addendum to my anonymous submission letting them know that this was Not Okay.

I love loaded choices - 'we let you keep the freedom of anonymity but here's why it's horrible and nobody should do it'

my company briefly had an employee's corner board that served a similar purpose but we weren't given the option of anonymity. So of course when we posted we had to use restraint (and no doubt many didn't because of the non-anonymity factor), and a few times I got a 'talking to' because of something innocuous I posted as I 'didn't go through proper channels'.

the other thing that pissed me off recently is the company survey. for years, I had responded positively in the survey, as my dept is one of the few that is still run well, so I've been pretty chipper for 4 years. This last year was not so rosy (for outside reasons), so I responded honestly about why I wasn't enjoying my job lately . At the end, they gave us follow-up questions based on our responses and the first thing was about my lack of engagement and they asked 'are you aware of how your lack of engagement is affecting other employees'.

Basically wrote a long screed (as it was thankfully anonymous) saying how lame it is to suggest we're to blame for our own misery, as if it is outside of the realm of possibility that the company could be contributing to it.

That series of suggestion box responses is just freaking bizarre.

surprised there wasn't another box that said "we respect your request to remain anonymous. In this instance, we have respectfully declined and have traced your machine via IP. We will take your suggestion under consideration, and will schedule a follow-up meeting to determine why you didn't want to share your name."

last box is just "Sorry, ___name___, but we have to let you go."

i remember before there was a big "anonymous survey" where i worked, in a regional bbc office about 7/8 years ago. but after my team filled it out we realised it was divided by the section you worked in, and the line managers of each section were sent the comments. tv and radio had about 30 people each, but the web team i was on was just 4 of us including the line manager whom i expect everyone else tore to pieces too.

I feel like I'm interrupting a big discussion here which I will read later but I have to get this out. I sent an email to a person asking if she was the the correct recipient and she wrote back "Yuppy Guppy!!!!!". What? Is that even a saying?

i think you oughta write back swearing like a sailor just on general principle

this one colleague, who is a friend, but has been increasingly disappointing of late, seems to think it's acceptable to always get things wrong the first time and just fix it afterwards.

In the last week, I gave her two items to work on where I actually prepped everything for her in advance (all she had to do was execute), and she screwed *both* up due to not reading the instructions, so I had to go back and correct her (even more frustrating is it took me two weeks of nagging to get her to even respond to begin with).

Then today, I find out this assignment I gave her to execute has been done incorrectly by 60% of the team she presented it to for weeks, which means she probably didn't train them all (or do a good job of it).

thankfully I'm off the project other than a few loose ends but I keep wondering like, wouldn't it be easier if you just got it right the first time?

this time I had to ask her to fix it cos I spent over 50+ hours over the last two months volunteering my team to clean up their messes and frankly don't have it in me anymore. kind of bummed that I worked 65+ hour weeks in December to ensure this thing went well cos I had no help and they have *five managers* and still can't operate their center.

maybe she was going to do it right, but then she thought 'we are all stardust'
