He is too leathery. Had to go to a press screening of The People v Larry Flynt and THERE HE WAS in all his orangey glory. He was I believe still glowing when they shut off the lights for the film.

Jimmy Carr was in Bodeans last night - he looks like he has an invisible piece of poo on his top lip in real life too.

that was what i'd've thought he'd be like suzy! like that other bloke, the antiques one whose name i've forgotten. but he wasn't *that* orange or *that* leathery. still ewwwwww though. and he is TINY, like about 3 feet tall.

In the last 2 days, Moss from the IT Crowd, James Lance from Teachers & The Book Group and Beth Orton from 'She Cries Your Name'.

Clubbed with Patsy Kensit last month. She is mondo petite and has seemingly lost 20 years.

two weeks pass...
Wayne Coyne in the Seattle airport, wearing a dingy suit jacket and laughing with some dudes. He was towing a loveable Barbie-pink vinyl suitcase that could've been from the set of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The singer from Suprgrss in Oxford last wednesday with partner and child(ren) in tow, heading to the new Castle development for Krispy Kremes (probably).

Even when it's 'only' the singer from suprgrss (and don't get me wrong I like them amd think them acey, etc.) I still find myself staring at them like an idiot.

Also xpost - I was in a taxi behind Peter S' limo stuck in traffic near Kings X. He got out went and got a paper, went somewhere else to get a coffee and cooly stepped back into his car (which had moved about 100 yrds). I was strangley impressed. But, yes, very orange indeed, also strange coat with odd furlike trim.

Lately:

Beyonce, two tables over at a crappy restaurant on Lexington, talking to some industry-looking guys about film stuff. (Best line: "I said I would only do it if it was with Mark Wahlberg.")

Fiona Apple, looking appropriately disgruntled and walking down the east end of Central Park.

Embarrassing: this girl who did a bunch of softcore teeny web porn around the turn of the millennium, sitting next to me at the movies, looking cute.

hopped on the elevator the other day greeted by Anne-Marie Johnson who instantly shot me a 'keep it moving buddy' glare(I know, the nerve...) but I couldn't help doing a double take before I turned around. She looks the same as ever, soooo skinny in person though. I work in a screen actors guild building so I see a lot of character/commercial actors I don't know the names of, the bigger stars probably send assistants to pick up their checks or whatever it is they do there

Gellar is one of those celebrities I actually hope I never encounter, because I'd have a lot of actress/character confusion and probably get all OMG BUFFY I LOVE YOU about it.

ILX Carly once saw Buffy's mom (aka Earnest Excedrin User) on the subway, and I have no idea how she managed not to do a bunch of creepy "hug me, I cried for days when you died" stuff.

i haf just been in edinburgh for almost a week and thus have the following list for yr delectation:

dara o'brien in waverley station (this within 30 second of getting off the train)
will self walking up the road, looking v tanned and healthy
welsh bloke from coupling, in the assembly rooms toilet
les dennis watching richard herring (we nearly sat next to him!)
bloke who plays bradley's dad in eastenders hanging around pleasance dome with his mates
drummer from khazi cheese watching josie long
half the comedians IN THE WORLD in the pleasance courtyard last night (there was a radio 4 "28 shows in 28 minutes" show on, so most of them were doing a minute on that), also alan rickman.

will this do?

I saw this guy who looked a ton like Michael Ian Black at a Go! Team show in NY last aprilish but I'm not sure it was actually him...

Goddamnit, I go to NYC all the time and I NEVER see famous people!!!

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Thursday, 17 August 2006 18:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Did you actually *see* Alan Rickman, or are you just believing me? I thought he had gone before you arrived.

You forgot about Tinker from Lovejoy! (though I think only Neil saw him)

(I am just miffed because I was going to revive this thread and Steve beat me to it)

Fred McAulay was apparently wandering around shaking hands with people and introducing himself with "hi I'm Fred McAulay, I have a show on Radio Scotland", which NO-ONE was impressed with, which is only right and fair.

I also saw a bloke who looked like George Clooney in the bar of what used to be the North British Hotel, but for some reason I decided not to go back and double-check. If I find out that he was at the Film Festival and I missed my opportunity to do something inappropriately silly like, erm, get his autograph/get my photo taken with him/convince him to marry me (ignoring husband for now, c'mon, it's George Clooney!), then I'll be very cross. I don't think it was him though. However, blokey in the bar of what used to be the North British Hotel, you're very goodlooking and you have a definite Clooney-esque air.

This should be here, really...

Early summer 2004 , We all went up to Belsay Hall. As we have English Heritage memberships, we've done a fair amount of going round old houses/mansions, big paintings on the walls, racks of books in bookcases, furniture behind thick decorous ropes, you get the picture.

This was different, as instead they had invited all the top fashion designers to install an art piece in one room each. Zandra Rhodes, Alexander McQueen, Stella Mac, Viv West, nearly everyone you could think of created 'art spaces'. On entering one of the halls, Amber and Alice had spotted a sheepdog, not much older than a pup, tied to a rail. They made a fuss of each other, the dog called "Red" eager to please, doing the 'sit' 15 times a minute.

Anyway, at one of the smaller halls was one of the bigger rooms, with an exhibit of a horse, made by hanging curtains of scharovski crystals (with sponsorship signs dotted around), and quite spectacular with the one shaft of light from an uptop open window. Dawn nudges me and says "Isn't that Stella McCartney over there?" and it was. Now, we'd bought the souvenir postcard pack, and Dawn wondered about getting the horse card signed. I suggested that actually, as it's obviously a low key visit, and most people had either not noticed or were too shy, probably best not to. (I'd seen how the three from New Order that arent Barney went from being casually noticed at a J&MC gig to getting swamped after one person was braveenough to ask).

Anyhow, a little later, we were entering one room as Stella was leaving another, so Dawn 'whispered' "I love your horse by the way". "Oh, thanks!" smiled Stel, and hugged her quickly. Afterwards, Dawn asked me "Was that OK?" "Yeah, of course!"

Anyhow, further/later, I'd gone to the main gate to get a poster of the exhibition, but they'd run out. On walking down the hill, Alice says "Oh look, there's Red again", chasing a ball. Thats when I saw that Dawn, Stella and Amber were full in conversation while playing with the dog. We stayed chatting for about 10 mins/1/4 hour about all sorts. What struck me was how Stella and Dawn were quite similar in a lot of ways, both being the same age. She was very complimentary about Amber's hair, remarking that her sister was dark haired although she was red herself, a bit like Amber and Alice.

I heared her say something about how difficult it was getting a good photo of the horse, so I said, "Oh , I took one, let me check" getting my camera out. (I never really thought about it..) but on checking, I said "Ah, no it's not that good" and put the camera away. I think she wondered if I was trying to get a 'quick photo' but actually, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind, and in any case I wouldn't have anyway.

Amber was quite keen to throw the ball for the dog, so Stella showed her how to bat the ball a distance using the tennis racket she had. But, Amber is a girlie and cannot hit a ball ten paces, so Stella tried to show her how by standing in front and throwing the ball to her. There was a moment I thought Amber was going to hit her a glancing blow, but no. Although, it wasn't until much later that it occured to me that a black eye would probably have made the front pages (She'd only that day announced she was expecting).

Anyway, we said cheerio, and she went back to her Family picnic, and we went home.

I did wonder if she'd pick Amber as a name for her kid, and actually not wanting that! (It was a boy in the end).

So, more recently, she was in Heat mag with Gwinneth, and I pointed the pic to Amber saying "You remember Red the Dog, and the lady?" "Oh, she famous then?" so I told her about the fashion designing, and how she'd complimenter her hair, to which she felt quite proud of herself. Oh, and eventually, pointed out Paul in the film "Help" and said that was her dad.
