That seems to be the thing they're doing the least of.

The character stuff was often the most numbskully part of the show
Like it was either pure satire on sit-com form or people kept telling Harmon he needed to make people care about the characters

Community’s biggest focus this season needs to be redefining these relationships for the audience. Are they still friends, or are they now more like co-workers? Is there still a romantic spark between Jeff and Annie or has that dynamic been abandoned completely? Who or what is Chang? There’s more to solidifying Community’s sixth season than randomly plugging in a couple new characters, but if anyone can make these characters’ relationships feel genuine and dimensional, it’s Harmon.http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/community-basic-crisis-room-decorum-216984

Well the comedy isn't doing it for me anymore. I had to rage-quit in the middle of Frankie's speech on "What is truth" just cos it was the nth joke where the comedy revolved entirely around "how clever is this?" I guess this show isn't for me anymore.

It's like the intellectual equivalent of a series of guitar solos.

Are we still supposed to hate guitar solos?
― Is It Any Wonder I'm Not the (President Keyes), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 18:35 (nine years ago) link
think the rule is you may solo if it sounds like Prince http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/16900-ivory/
― Team Foxcatcherwatcher (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 25 March 2015 18:38 (nine years ago) link
or Neil Young: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/19536-strand-of-oaks-heal/

There is lots of pre-grunge guitar on here: some actual shredding and soloing, albeit no showboating. Synths play a much larger role on HEAL, especially on the neon-lit title track and on “Same Emotions”, with its video-game solo on the coda.
so basically you have to solo like Prince, but with no showboating.

you have to be eddie van halen, but only 1984 eddie.

I only like guitar solos where the dynamics between the notes are explored--you know, like, is this note a good leader? Or can this note deal with his best friend dating a female note? Or why is this note racist?

Your right i am an idiot who could never enjoy the genius doodlings of writer mc writerson. Enjoy the Artistic Integrity of a bunch of adults defending a dog's college graduation.

oh I hope they spend a lot of time on relationships between the characters. that was always the funniest part of the show
I don't mean things like Troy and Britta or Jeff and Annie, I mean like when Jeff and Shirley would wander off and start bitching about the rest of the group, or the rivalry between Britta and Shirley, or y'know Troy and Abed doing anything. You got to know how different pairings of characters would react to a situation, things that made it a believable group dynamic and also acted in the service of the comedy. Seems pretty obvious that Harmon put a lot of effort into defining all that early on before taking the series off-piste.
This last episode felt like a sequence of characters just getting up and doing their own thing one after another and felt disconnected and disjointed and not very funny as a result. Britta's drunk and wearing someone else's pants? That's the joke?

Hah yeah. I'm done with this show and anything else Dan Harmon does. He's a hack and a bully.

It's been getting dramatically better starting with ep 3. Ep 5 the best so far; loved Chang's line about, "I was their Spanish teacher; then they couldn't figure out anything interesting to do with me" or something.

"jesus WEPT" had me in tears. Enjoyed first few Eps. But I really don't care about any of these characters anymore, they're just ciphers for the next joke.
― NotKnowPotato (stevie), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 17:06 (nine years ago) link
Like, none of them interact as if they actually know each other.
yeah this is in some ways more like watching a well-rehearsed improv troupe than, like, a show about humans at this point

Yahoo Screen just launched a new show from Paul Feig starring a bunch of commercial actors, plus Joel and Trace from MST3K. Anyone seen it yet?

I've been enjoying the petty Annie v Britta flatmate rivalry (especially the fact that Jeff has nothing to do with it), but yeah, this.

the last episode with the email leaks was a little better on that front

― DJP, Friday, 17 April 2015 19:29 (nine years ago) link
I watched the third, didn't think it was measurably better than the first two, have thrown in the towel.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 April 2015 21:01 (nine years ago) link
this was always a show that I wanted to end after Season 3 or so because I wanted it to go out on top. Quality over quantity. bleh.

gonna check this out now. i'm pretty annoyed that Yahoo hasn't put any ads for this show on Community, considering it might actually appeal to Community viewers more than the show they do run ads for constantly, Sin City Saints starring Tom Arnold.

Watched the first half or so of Other Space this weekend. it's cute, very MST3K (obviously), like a very low budget live action version of Futurama at points. Not amazing, but fun enough and it's some good potential. Really like the whole cast.

yeah i watched the first two eps of Other Space over the weekend, they were very fun!

after being entertained but utterly uninvested this most recent episode is the first i've really liked, and the first where it's felt there's been any kind of real group dynamic to latch on to

xppppSteven Universe has moved to the top rank in my Cartoon Network lineup. so much respect for that showIt's a little late now and also unrelated but since 'Over The Garden Wall' only got mentioned once in another thread, I'll go ahead here and back up the sentiment that it is one of the best things CN has ever produced.

Haven't been feeling this season much at all but I really enjoyed the giant hand one. The scene with the couple at the end was incredible.
Disliked the Star Wars one a lot, it felt very Season 4 in its combination of being underwritten and also trying too hard.
