I want one of those bats!

The Ice Bat came from Kid Robot on Prince Street.

dude your kid is way cute

The first pic looks like the morning after a hard night of HONOURING THE FIRE.

Leee's a Simpson (Leee), Friday, 28 May 2004 04:41 (twenty years ago) link

is it safe to honour the fire at that age¿

dyson (dyson), Friday, 28 May 2004 04:50 (twenty years ago) link

There's no logical reason for the inclusion of this picture, but I took it at about 7:15 am on my way to the office (notice nearly deserted streets) on Sunday morning and think it looks jolly nice. Hooray for NYC.

Very nice it does look! I spent part of the weekend around my cousin's babies/young kids, and while they're older than Charlotte (one only by three months), they gave me a sense of the controlled chaos wee ones can bring to one's life. ;-)

This thread makes me immensely happy. It's just great.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 31 May 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago) link

This weekend I participated in the baptism of my brother's nine-month-old triplets, including my godson William, amd lemme tell ya, I got overwhelmed by baby-love big-time. This has never happened to me before, as typically I don't like being in the company of small children and resent mass-media baby fetishism, but yesterday I just wanted to hold William and play with him all day.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 31 May 2004 23:06 (twenty years ago) link

Charlotte has reached my favorite baby age. Sooo cute!

Just discovered this thread -- congrats to all three of you.

She's so adorable, I love this thread.

More pictures please?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago) link

pretty cute, Alex!

I must say I'm having a bit of trouble reconciling the doting father with the guy I remember with both middle fingers raised in the midst of a crowded concert floor, evidently saying hello in his unique way to his friend across the floor...

great show, though, Tricky just after Maxinquaye opening for PJ Harvey after To Bring You My Love. Black Steel In the Hour of Chaos, baby, the guitarist sounded like Eddie Hazell that night...

She gets more beautiful with every picture...

That was sorta the way Alex appeared on the board -- in wrath and flame.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 20:07 (twenty years ago) link

Wow, Jon Abbey! Who'da thunk it. We moved offices this week, Jon....24th floor no more (or at least for another year while they re-model). They've squeezed everyone onto 27, and no one is pleased.

More pics.....

This is a truly unfortunate shot, but it amply shows who she gets her hair from...

he's just embarrassed is all.

I hardly ever read ILE, but happened to pop over while watching the Pistons (hopefully) beat the Lakers and this thread happened to be at the top. Skimming through it in order without knowing anything about the situation is as harrowing and dramatic as any work of fiction, with some kind of gangbusters happy ending.

It also just so happens that today is the day I heard the heartbeat of my first (due in January) for the first time, at my wife's second doctor's appointment. So I consider this coincidence a good omen.

Congratulations Alex -- Charlotte is beautiful.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 03:00 (twenty years ago) link

Congratulations, Chris!!! Don't believe the hype, it's scary -- but not nearly as horrific as some people make it out to be (or maybe I just haven't hit that part yet). It is a life-changer though.

Thanks and kudos to you!!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:05 (twenty years ago) link

Good thoughts for Chris! And Alex...yeah, it's unfortunate, but it might not have been as unfortunate if you didn't simultaneously look like you were recovering from a hangover, being homeless and getting two black eyes. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:24 (twenty years ago) link

a hangover, being homeless and getting two black eyes.

Parenthood in a nutshell.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

just you wait...

Really, it does my poor old heart good to see this bebe and her glowing parents. Enough to make me want another of my own.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:46 (twenty years ago) link

thanks. We feel reasonably prepared to actually be parents, at least as prepared as we're going to get (I have half brothers who were infants when I was in high-school and college, so changing diapers, feeding, and all that won't be new to me). It's other stuff -- work/daycare logistics, costs, etc -- that seems daunting. There have only been a couple of times so far when the enormity of it all has made start to hyperventilate :-)

chris herrington (chris herrington), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:20 (twenty years ago) link

Aw. :-)

I think that pink dress is the most feminine (as socially constructed) thing I've seen her in yet! Where's the black T-shirt for her?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 June 2004 01:11 (twenty years ago) link

We have lots of conventionally "feminine" outfits for her, but she only fits into a few of'em. Some wiseacre friends of mine gave her a little black t-shirt that reads "Daddy Drinks Because I Cry" (which is all too true) and a little black smock/dress with the Ramones logo on it (complete with a pair of little black socks), but neither would fit at the moment.

I'm still waiting for the ILX onezie for her to arrive.

Aw, mannnn. This had better show up soon, because I want to see what it'll look like!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 00:50 (twenty years ago) link

Still no sign of it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 01:44 (twenty years ago) link

The hair is looking even more punk somehow.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 June 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago) link

I'd like to explain the sickly neon green Izod by saying I had to go visit a mob of in-laws yesterday. I know. What a sellout I am, eh? In any event....a father's day pic.

My God. I would consider killing for a shirt that color.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 20 June 2004 22:04 (twenty years ago) link

You should stitch a small 'honour the fire' bit below the alligator.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 June 2004 22:04 (twenty years ago) link

And here I am being tackled and pinned by a pint-sized assailant.

Ahahahahahahahahahaa!!!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 20 June 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago) link

I got the shirt in question at the lamentable new Bloomingdales in Soho (former site of....a moment of silence, please.....Canal St. Jeans). Someone gave us a 75 buck gift card, so I spent it thusly. I might rip that fuckin' alligator off of it, though. I do like the color, it must be said.

"See, honey, when you sit back and listen to your Stranglers box set for your 21st birthday, THIS is how you need to appreciate it, with a beer in your hand!"

"Yeah right dad, turn on the Wiggles so I can rock out."

Very PINK in the second photo there

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:52 (twenty years ago) link

Those are my sister's sheets at my mother's place, if ya must know (I would never outfit a bedroom with that color, personally). They are indeed an eyesore.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:17 (twenty years ago) link

she is soooooooo cute Alex.

It makes me want a third.

Oh wait, I just remembered what it's like having two.

Enjoy these days. They go by so quickly!
