There's no logical reason for the inclusion of this picture, but I took it at about 7:15 am on my way to the office (notice nearly deserted streets) on Sunday morning and think it looks jolly nice. Hooray for NYC.

Very nice it does look! I spent part of the weekend around my cousin's babies/young kids, and while they're older than Charlotte (one only by three months), they gave me a sense of the controlled chaos wee ones can bring to one's life. ;-)

This weekend I participated in the baptism of my brother's nine-month-old triplets, including my godson William, amd lemme tell ya, I got overwhelmed by baby-love big-time. This has never happened to me before, as typically I don't like being in the company of small children and resent mass-media baby fetishism, but yesterday I just wanted to hold William and play with him all day.

I must say I'm having a bit of trouble reconciling the doting father with the guy I remember with both middle fingers raised in the midst of a crowded concert floor, evidently saying hello in his unique way to his friend across the floor...

great show, though, Tricky just after Maxinquaye opening for PJ Harvey after To Bring You My Love. Black Steel In the Hour of Chaos, baby, the guitarist sounded like Eddie Hazell that night...

I hardly ever read ILE, but happened to pop over while watching the Pistons (hopefully) beat the Lakers and this thread happened to be at the top. Skimming through it in order without knowing anything about the situation is as harrowing and dramatic as any work of fiction, with some kind of gangbusters happy ending.

It also just so happens that today is the day I heard the heartbeat of my first (due in January) for the first time, at my wife's second doctor's appointment. So I consider this coincidence a good omen.

Congratulations Alex -- Charlotte is beautiful.

Congratulations, Chris!!! Don't believe the hype, it's scary -- but not nearly as horrific as some people make it out to be (or maybe I just haven't hit that part yet). It is a life-changer though.

thanks. We feel reasonably prepared to actually be parents, at least as prepared as we're going to get (I have half brothers who were infants when I was in high-school and college, so changing diapers, feeding, and all that won't be new to me). It's other stuff -- work/daycare logistics, costs, etc -- that seems daunting. There have only been a couple of times so far when the enormity of it all has made start to hyperventilate :-)

We have lots of conventionally "feminine" outfits for her, but she only fits into a few of'em. Some wiseacre friends of mine gave her a little black t-shirt that reads "Daddy Drinks Because I Cry" (which is all too true) and a little black smock/dress with the Ramones logo on it (complete with a pair of little black socks), but neither would fit at the moment.

I'm still waiting for the ILX onezie for her to arrive.

I got the shirt in question at the lamentable new Bloomingdales in Soho (former site of....a moment of silence, please.....Canal St. Jeans). Someone gave us a 75 buck gift card, so I spent it thusly. I might rip that fuckin' alligator off of it, though. I do like the color, it must be said.
