Likely presidential candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) said in an interview set to air Monday that he would have invaded Iraq in 2003, like his brother did, if he were President back then."Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?" Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked Bush in a sit-down interview."I would have," Bush said."And so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everybody," he added. "And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got."

he's not very good at this, is he
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 13:44 (nine years ago) link
i don't think he even processed the question properly, particularly the "knowing what we know now" part

The luminaries on "Morning Joe" nodded sympathetically when this clips aired. Even in 2015 it doesn't occur to them that possessing bionuclear weapons does not make a country a threat, unless Joe and "Mika" would have endorsed the overthrow of George W. Bush for leading a country that has used nuclear weapons.

Or he's being upfront about not knowing anything today that he didn't know in 2003. Admitting, "I haven't learned anything new in 12 years!" is a bold move, but kinda SOP for the GOP.

eh Rick Perry beat him in 2012 when he admitted "I haven't learned anything!"

US has been using nuclear boogeymen for 50+ years now why would they stop on a technicality. He's probably right about Hillary.

xposti don't know, i could see clinton answering "no" to the question as it was phrased by Kelly
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 13:56 (nine years ago) link
i dunno though, i guess jeb's just going all in on it. if he has any sort of sustained success as a candidate, he's going to be asked about it millions of times. he's not going to be break from his family and the rest of his neocon frenz on it, so he may as well just say he fully supported the idea and still supports it, i guess
it's hard out there for a jeb, apart from all of the money and power he has
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 13:58 (nine years ago) link
making some sort of break from his family wld be wise like he doesnt have to publicly disown them but some sort of i am my own man type attitude is prob preferable to declaring gwb yr top foreign policy adviser
― lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:03 (nine years ago) link
why because its generally acknowledged that gwb was bad at foreign policy
― lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:04 (nine years ago) link
even those who publically support him withn the republican party arent actually that psyched to try it again
― lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:05 (nine years ago) link
it would make sense to set himself apart from his family, but it's hard to imagine him doing it. and now that he's already said that W whispers foreign policy advice in his ear as he sleeps, and that he would still support the invasion given everything he knows now, welp
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:11 (nine years ago) link
i wonder if jeb's ever had an honest sit and chat with an adviser on how he should handle questions about his brother and the iraq war, or if he always manages to drift off to get a glass of water every time the topic comes up
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:12 (nine years ago) link
yes we ARE going to have to deal with that, no question! shoot are we out of ice cubes again? i'm just gonna run down to the gas station and pick up some ice before every arrives later this aft- *door closes*
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:14 (nine years ago) link
feel like his advisors are all "we need to show strength on this issue admit no wrongdoing" but thats just because theyre the same ppl who advised gwb

wonder if were headed for a replay of the romney scenario where republicans try valiantly to love every other candidate no matter how flawed before settling for the clueless plutocrat jeb
― lag∞n, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:17 (nine years ago) link
it's awesome how we've got a Republican field distinguished by everyone thinking exactly the same. We've even got two fluent Spanish speakers for the first time! Good to know Ben Carson and Rubio would be interchangeable.

Even Brent Scowcroft and Colin Powell have expressed regrets, and Scarecrowt is basically the voice of GHWB International.

Would love to see the next move look like:
"Knowing what we know now, would you have authorized the invasion?" Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked George W. Bush in a sit-down interview."Oh Christ, are you kidding me? I'd probably appoint Michael Brown to FEMA again before heading off to the sands." Bush said.

i have a hard time imagining any of these GOP candidates putting up a serious fight for the general nomination, but i thought that about mitt too and it ended up being a contest, at least
― Karl Malone, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:29 (nine years ago) link
mitt lost pretty good all things considered

I can't tell if Bernie is the real deal or just a left-wing troll. Taibbi seems to think he's for real, and he's usually pretty damn cynical, but I don't know...
― schwantz, Monday, 11 May 2015 19:56 (nine years ago) link
I thought Dean's entire campaign was vaporware from day 1 so I wasn't surprised when he tanked; what I was surprised about was people latching onto The Scream as the reason why his campaign flopped.
― DJP, Monday, 11 May 2015 19:57 (nine years ago) link
bernie is way too much of a weirdo to have any impact amongst anyone who doesnt already totally agree with him

it was a magic bullet for the Democlican Establishment and the Beltway Pigs.
and Dean wasn't even all that liberal.
they'd kill a leftist who got near the nomination.
