the republicans are tbf much more interested in the rubio as latino whisperer line, doubt too many professional democrats buy it

He is young. He is very motivational. He has a powerful story.”

Each time I read a quote to that effect from a GOP operative, I sense an invisible "...just like Barack Obama." at the end. I think a huge number of Republicans still think to this day that Obama was elected twice because, gosh, he's just got this fabulous gift of gab.

lest we forget, republicans have always have a natural ability to "rap" with "the people"

Huckabee seems to have stepped in it good. He either remains steadfast in his support of a serial child molester or he rescinds his support and alienates himself from the braindead evangelical base he's accumulated. Good goin'!

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 May 2015 22:19 (nine years ago) link

haha waht is this about the Duggar thing

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 May 2015 22:21 (nine years ago) link

lol of course

(although that article's pretty shitty - Huck's not being inconsistent with who he forgives, i.e. contrite self-professed evangelical Christians)

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 May 2015 22:25 (nine years ago) link

tbrr the problem with the Duggar family isn't just the molestation, it's that they acted just like the Catholic Church: denied it, hid it, enabled it, failed to notify authorities or obtain appropriate counseling etc. oh but yeah they did the most important thing in Fuckabee's eyes, they "prayed on it"

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 May 2015 22:28 (nine years ago) link

It's coming out now that Oprah's producers are the ones who originally brought this story to the attention of the local police back in 2006 after someone alerted them to the molestation and they promptly canceled the Duggar family interview. Wish Oprah had used the full extent of her power to crush the Duggars into powder back then, but telling the police is good enough I suppose.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 May 2015 22:38 (nine years ago) link

the Duggar family claim that they had addressed this all appropriately when it happened looks like total horseshit. not surprised Chuckabee would sign off on it, probably feels its similar to what he went through with his puppy murdering progeny

Οὖτις, Friday, 22 May 2015 22:42 (nine years ago) link

not that huckabee had any shot at either the nomination, let alone the actual office of President, but surely his support of this douche kills his political aspirations dead

akm, Monday, 25 May 2015 22:03 (nine years ago) link

political aspirations do not die so easily. Nixon came back from the dead several times.

Nixon had been vice president, senator and rep though whereas the Huck's only been to Canaan.

Senator? I think he was still a rep when Ike brought him on as his veep nominee. but I understand your drift.

Aimless, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 00:44 (nine years ago) link

Nixon was elected to the U.S. Senate representing California in 1950.

how come there aren't more Democrats boosting their speaking/public appearance/book tour fees by jumping in the ring? seems weird for the GOP to have such a monopoly on craven opportunism.

what the hell is GOP's prolem

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 17:24 (nine years ago) link

I'm reminded of the exchange between Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter in Michael Mann's Manhunter:

Graham: I know that I'm not smarter than you.

Lecter: Then how did you catch me?

Graham: You had disadvantages.

Lecter: What disadvantages?

Graham: You're insane.

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Tuesday, 26 May 2015 17:28 (nine years ago) link

that math problem thing was conventional wisdom was all the rage after Romney lost in 2012. the GOP appointed a blue ribbon committee that told them they must pass immigration reform and win the latino vote. the upshot of this is the GOP hopes Jeb will speak a few words of Spanish and paper over the whole issue for them.

Aimless, Tuesday, 26 May 2015 17:29 (nine years ago) link

gop has a structural advantage in congressional elections, until that stops awarding them majorities theyre not gonna be desperate enough to change the policies/culture thats causing them problems on the presidential level
