this kind of thing doesn't bother teh gays? http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2014/06/hillary-clintons-gay-marriage-problem/372717/
I mean it's pretty much beside the point now given that the law is getting pretty settled, but it's emblematic of her lack of principles (and foresight)

tbh i feel like anyone who can support HRC after her unapologetic vote for the iraq war can probably find it in their hearts to justify anything she does

DON: A lot of us struggled during that period. You're talking about the worst terrorist attack on American soil. Some of us wanted revenge. I've had to deal with that kind of anger most of my life. It was difficult to find one's moral barings.

idk; is there any poll data to back up the claim that non-white voters are uninterested in sanders?
― example (crüt), Wednesday, 27 May 2015 23:15 (nine years ago) link
is it even that interesting? Sanders has always presented himself as old-school American democratic socialist. Viewing class issues as the prime mover is kind of necessary for that ideology and it's not like the piece can even point to him being hostile to "cultural issues" or backwards on race or something, it's just that he views them through the lens of Marxist analysis.

"In liberal circles, it now seems impossible to have cared deeply about human rights, to have cared about gay rights, and to have objected to gay marriage, even though that was the exact position of almost all liberals very recently."
I call bullshit. About 25% of Americans self-describe as liberal and 40% of Americans supported gay marriage a decade ago. Not enough libertarians to make this add up.

i will admit that, 2000 and on, the Green Party seems to have done a mediocre to terrible job of attracting minority voters (I think they may have improved a little in the last couple years). Some lazy pundits are pigeonholing Sanders as a New Nader (stupidly since Bernie is a career politician), so maybe they assume a Sanders campaign will similarly draw on white tofu eaters.

you know what other progressive issue sanders is nowhere on... gun control, almost like his politics were shaped in an oddly egalitarian completely white rural state that doesnt really reflect the democratic party as a whole

Surprised to see Goldwater that far to the right, even compared to contemporary Republicans. In later, post-Senate life he would certainly be further to the left. Strong supporter of Dole, I recall - hated the religious right.

― Michael Jones, Thursday, 28 May 2015 13:39 (nine years ago) link
I've seen an earlier version of that chart on ILX before (possibly upthread?) - there's an article around somewhere talking about the specific things it's measuring on both "congressional voting record" and "public issue statements" which is why the wide spread on the Pauls.

Bush said he welcomed the opportunity to explain his views on both subjects "because I find it interesting that people who share that view -- rather than stick with the view and try to persuade people about it -- in many cases have actually abandoned their views."
