its a quality body of work.. also impressive how the media pays absolutely no attention to the disconnect.

more wisdom from JE!

"The president is more than just a head of parliament; he’s also the symbol of our country in many ways," he added later.

Bush said he welcomed the opportunity to explain his views on both subjects "because I find it interesting that people who share that view -- rather than stick with the view and try to persuade people about it -- in many cases have actually abandoned their views."

that is a w-level failed sentence, good luck out there j.e.

pauls pere et fils kind of complicate that graph about how conservative the various GOP folks are.

btw is bernie sanders actually a marxist? i'm sure he fucks w/ marx or marxian concepts a lot more than most (all?) national politicians, but there's a strong current of democratic socialism (even or especially in the USA) that isn't explicitly marxist. after all socialism itself predates marx.

the news about hastert made me so happy. what a fucker he is.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 29 May 2015 19:57 (nine years ago) link

no, of course he's not a marxist

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Friday, 29 May 2015 19:58 (nine years ago) link

from what I've read of his positions he would not have shocked a young lib in the Roosevelt administration.

Teddy Roosevelt's administration eiher

xpost

right.

some article and posts upthread referred to him as a marxist, and that didn't seem right to me.

i wonder if hilary will red-bait or if that just seems like an old battle that was fought and won. i'm glad sanders will be in the debates. i'll vote for him too, if he sticks around.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 29 May 2015 19:59 (nine years ago) link

sanders is a social democrat ie a liberal

lag∞n, Friday, 29 May 2015 19:59 (nine years ago) link

does he no longer call himself a "socialist"? i believe he did at one pt.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Friday, 29 May 2015 20:01 (nine years ago) link

he does but he was never referring to the anti-capitalist seize the means of production kind of socialism ie socialism

lag∞n, Friday, 29 May 2015 20:04 (nine years ago) link

hes basically on old school liberal or a nordic model socailist

lag∞n, Friday, 29 May 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

i think one reason sanders might not emphasize race as much as some others is because he's from... vermont.

whoa, hastert thing gets worse and worse

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/30/us/politics/hastert-indictment.html

J. Dennis Hastert, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, was paying a man to not say publicly that Mr. Hastert had sexually abused him decades ago, according to two people briefed on the evidence uncovered in an F.B.I. investigation into the payments.

wrong thread

Οὖτις, Friday, 29 May 2015 20:32 (nine years ago) link

of course, for all we know, it could be a simple act of extortion, but if so hastert handled it in the skeeviest way possible.

I'm constantly amazed at the kind of memory people have for this kind of weird shit:

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/243418-dennis-hastert's-weird-2014-CSPAN-call

I wouldn't have thought twice about that call; and it might wind up being unrelated; but that it even stuck in someone's head long enough for cspan to have created a page for it and for people to bring it up now is ... i don't know how much time people have to obsess on this kind of ephemera.
