more wisdom from JE!
"The president is more than just a head of parliament; he’s also the symbol of our country in many ways," he added later.

Bush said he welcomed the opportunity to explain his views on both subjects "because I find it interesting that people who share that view -- rather than stick with the view and try to persuade people about it -- in many cases have actually abandoned their views."
that is a w-level failed sentence, good luck out there j.e.

pauls pere et fils kind of complicate that graph about how conservative the various GOP folks are.
btw is bernie sanders actually a marxist? i'm sure he fucks w/ marx or marxian concepts a lot more than most (all?) national politicians, but there's a strong current of democratic socialism (even or especially in the USA) that isn't explicitly marxist. after all socialism itself predates marx.

the news about hastert made me so happy. what a fucker he is.
no, of course he's not a marxist

right.
some article and posts upthread referred to him as a marxist, and that didn't seem right to me.
i wonder if hilary will red-bait or if that just seems like an old battle that was fought and won. i'm glad sanders will be in the debates. i'll vote for him too, if he sticks around.

whoa, hastert thing gets worse and worse
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/30/us/politics/hastert-indictment.html
J. Dennis Hastert, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, was paying a man to not say publicly that Mr. Hastert had sexually abused him decades ago, according to two people briefed on the evidence uncovered in an F.B.I. investigation into the payments.

of course, for all we know, it could be a simple act of extortion, but if so hastert handled it in the skeeviest way possible.

I'm constantly amazed at the kind of memory people have for this kind of weird shit:
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/243418-dennis-hastert's-weird-2014-CSPAN-call
I wouldn't have thought twice about that call; and it might wind up being unrelated; but that it even stuck in someone's head long enough for cspan to have created a page for it and for people to bring it up now is ... i don't know how much time people have to obsess on this kind of ephemera.
― akm, Friday, 29 May 2015 20:51 (nine years ago) link
also that caller sounds kind of young to have been abused by Hastert in the 60's but maybe he's turned into some kind of man-child, like a Chuck and Buck thing.
