Paul says plenty of stuff I agree with (primarily foreign policy-related) but I have no illusions that he's a dangerous, disingenuous idealogue asshole so it's p much the stopped clock phenomenon at work

i haven't seen GG "praising" so much as pointing out anomalies in the MSN Two Polarized Parties binary, similar to when he identifies the issues on which Obama, Peter King and Mitch McConnell are in lockstep.

GG's praise for the pauls is super-misguided but he is not a libertarian, 'fundamentally' or otherwise

greenwald has some documented libertarian skeletons in his closet and its a pretty clear thread in his poltiical philosophy on the occasions you can see anything resembling a philosophy through the constant calling everyone in the world venal dishonest hitlers

Chafeemania!

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:03 (nine years ago) link

"I don't think anybody should be president of the United States that made that mistake" of voting for the Iraq War, Chafee told The Post in April. "It's a huge mistake, and we live with broad, broad ramifications today — of instability not only in the Middle East but far beyond and the loss of American credibility. There were no weapons of mass destruction."

have to agree w/ this.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:06 (nine years ago) link

that said, i have no illusions that had obama been a senator in 2002, he would have voted for the war. it was his privilege not to have been in federal office when that vote came up, a privilege that allowed him to run as an anti-war candidate.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:07 (nine years ago) link

so in that chaffee is very much to obama's left.

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:07 (nine years ago) link

yeah I agree w that sentiment too

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:10 (nine years ago) link

not so sure about this either - 21 Dems in the Senate voted against it you know

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:11 (nine years ago) link

yeah i suppose it's possible, i'm basing this on how obama behaved as a senator and then president

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:13 (nine years ago) link

chafee doesn't have a prayer in hell but he's a serious guy and probably the sort of person who should be running for president (although i have many differences w/ him).

he quipped with heat (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 June 2015 20:14 (nine years ago) link

if Biden runs we could have Delaware Vermont and Rhode Island running wild over the USA during the primaries.

i have no idea what GG's 'libertarian skeletons' might be but a guy who slammed obamacare for not having the public option, wants public financing of elections, and opposes all cuts to social security and medicare is not a 'libertarian.'

Texas governor Rick Perry Friday showed America a new persona that is both more laid back and more souped up than prior Perrys.

Perry at #cpac: Conservative govs common denominator in relatively robust states."No 2 states lost more income to others as NY&CA." @nro

So he's...bragging that under his leadership Texas remained dependent on income redirected from New York and California? Both of which are ranked less dependent on the federal government (#6 and #20) than Texas (#24)?

i rarely read the corner, but if they keep running stuff like this i'm gonna go all the way and BOOKMARK IT

Here’s the visual package in a blowup of the above picture, from Perry’s appearance with National Review’s Jim Geraghty. You can’t see Perry’s sensible shoes, but he’s working a subdued, knees-together posture, modestly leaning in to his interlocutor, fully committed to the pursuit of better solutions.

I'd buy the reality show but only if there's a certain number of wild card slots so you can cycle the duds out. I mean, I am 100% fine with not seeing Steve Forbes running for president anymore.

There's a good joke hidden in there somewhere, I've been working on it for a few weeks. Stripped down it goes:

My favorite tv-show is clearly 'Republican Primary'. Sucks they can only make a new season every four years.
