Texas governor Rick Perry Friday showed America a new persona that is both more laid back and more souped up than prior Perrys.
same

Perry at #cpac: Conservative govs common denominator in relatively robust states."No 2 states lost more income to others as NY&CA." @nro
So he's...bragging that under his leadership Texas remained dependent on income redirected from New York and California? Both of which are ranked less dependent on the federal government (#6 and #20) than Texas (#24)?

i rarely read the corner, but if they keep running stuff like this i'm gonna go all the way and BOOKMARK IT
Here’s the visual package in a blowup of the above picture, from Perry’s appearance with National Review’s Jim Geraghty. You can’t see Perry’s sensible shoes, but he’s working a subdued, knees-together posture, modestly leaning in to his interlocutor, fully committed to the pursuit of better solutions.

I'd buy the reality show but only if there's a certain number of wild card slots so you can cycle the duds out. I mean, I am 100% fine with not seeing Steve Forbes running for president anymore.

There's a good joke hidden in there somewhere, I've been working on it for a few weeks. Stripped down it goes:
My favorite tv-show is clearly 'Republican Primary'. Sucks they can only make a new season every four years.

seems like "ted cruz is a huge asshole" has been the underlying theme to his whole career, funny if being a crass prick to joe biden will cement it in the press's mind rather than, like, personally shutting the federal government and getting nothing for it.

Mainstream media loves their false equivalences, so they're trying to make the Dems primary seem like the Republicans one, though this piece is mainly about quoting poll data to beat up on Hillary.

plus i imagine Senator Warren will be persuaded to run vs President Walker in 2020.
― the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:40 (nine years ago) link
I think Hillary's gonna win this, I'm not willing to prognosticate farther than that - things are too unpredictable
― Οὖτις, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:42 (nine years ago) link
Why would Sen. Warren run in 2020 if Hillary's still around?
― pplains, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:45 (nine years ago) link
if she does win in 2016 she'll have huge incumbent advantages going into 2020 including a powerful political machine that will only grow more powerful from 4 years of hillary WH, and there's still no indication that the republicans can put together a compelling candidate tho obv that could change quickly especially if they lose in 2016 and decide to switch the emphasis of the party towards someone more electable.
― Mordy, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:46 (nine years ago) link
Someone more electable than Hillary? Not quite reading you here.
― pplains, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:48 (nine years ago) link
republicans are fine with controlling congress and having a puncher's chance at the white house
― Aimless, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:49 (nine years ago) link
Someone more electable than the current slate. A Hillary WH disaster plus slightly more reasonable Republican candidate could mean she loses in 2020 is what I'm saying.
― Mordy, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:50 (nine years ago) link
the problem with, and im sure ive said this before here, republicans switching the emphasis of the party to something more electable is theyre still very electable on the congressional level due to unfair structural elements, and its not possible for them to change their pitch on the presidential level without also changing in on the congressional level, which will not happen until they start to lose congress too, and even then theyd still have to deal w the fact that the majority of their base wld freak the f out if they say became slightly less racist

― lag∞n, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:52 (nine years ago) link
Hillary Rodham Clinton is who I have in mind, just to clarify. Not this HIllary who could lose in 2020, whoever that is.
― pplains, Thursday, 4 June 2015 16:52 (nine years ago) link
which is not to say they cant win the presidency just that all things being equal theyre at a disadvantage
but Mordy, what about the tens of thousands dead from coastal flooding in 2017-2020?
you guys are gonna be playing horserace til your kids ask you why the hell you gave them this world, i guess
