idk he seems to be doing okay in the state he governs

He beat two weak opponents and won a recall election in a context where many people felt a recall was inappropriate. His current polling here (OK, as of 2 months ago but it's the latest I've got) is 41% approve, 56% disapprove, and he gets crushed head-to-head against HRC (again, I agree, too early to really ask this, but those are the numbers we have.) I don't think anybody here thinks he would still be governor if Feingold had been willing to run, but Feingold doesn't want to be governor, he wants to be a Senator again, which he will be in two years' time.

I posted in the other thread that he's about to start a fight over tenure.

Mr. Obama has rarely employed the kind of face-to-face lobbying and arm-twisting of lawmakers that previous presidents have found to be effective. But the fight for authority to negotiate new trade deals has been different, with Mr. Obama repeatedly urging lawmakers in both parties to support him.

lol imagine if he had this much get-up-and-go during the rest of his administration

lol these clowns:

Walker credits Act 10 in part for the decline in Wisconsin’s unemployment rate since he took office in 2011 and has said he considers right-to-work “one more arrow in that quiver” for the creation of jobs. But since 2011, the state has fallen to 40th out of the 50 states in job growth and 42nd in wage growth, according to an analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data conducted by The Capital Times of Wisconsin. Act 10, officially called the Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill, was supposed to fix persistent budget shortfalls by lowering labor costs and eliminating union rules. But Wisconsin’s two-year projected budget deficit has actually increased; in May, the Legislature approved a $250 million cut to the state’s prized university system to help close the gap. Wisconsin is now among the top 10 states people move out of.

the walker/GOP strategy is to do things that will raise the deficit, then cut spending on social programs, education, etc. and claim their hands were forced b/c deficits!

x-posts: Isn't it pretty precisely what Naomi Klein called 'The Shock Doctrine'? It's played out all over Europe as well after the crisis. Neo-liberal answers to a neo-liberal made crisis. For some weird reason, has resulted in slowest recovery pretty much ever.

Frederik B, Saturday, 13 June 2015 14:08 (nine years ago) link

Roosevelt Island is already an active symbol of Nixon and George Romney eviscerating the federal housing program and leaving its masterplan incomplete for decades, only for private enterprise to step in with market rate crap in the Bush era. Too complicated. On the other hand it means you get an okay stretch of Manhattan as a backdrop.

Back in the 1980s Oregon's governor was a nice, but very drab fellow named Victor Atiyeh. Of course, his re-election lawn signs and bumper stickers all read: Atiyeh!
As if his very name conjured up uncontrollable excitement. Jeb is reminiscent of Vic.

Aimless, Sunday, 14 June 2015 20:48 (nine years ago) link

That looks like the title card for a TGIF sitcom.

lmao fox is gonna hold a second tier debate for the candidates who dont fit in the first one!

lag∞n, Monday, 15 June 2015 14:42 (nine years ago) link

glad to see that trump will be debating somewhere, then

legendary wireless executive (Karl Malone), Monday, 15 June 2015 14:57 (nine years ago) link

lol if Fox is having to create a second debate just so you can get on tv, you probably aren't going to win anything. Have some self respect, candidates!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 15 June 2015 15:09 (nine years ago) link

maybe it'll be like the premier league and the best of the second tier debaters will win the right to ascend to the first group

legendary wireless executive (Karl Malone), Monday, 15 June 2015 15:14 (nine years ago) link

but no one, including the candidates themselves, will know who will rise to the top tier until the host of the debate gives them a rose
