great match

efreet liberal (Noodle Vague), Friday, 3 July 2015 18:30 (nine years ago) link

Testament to how well Watson was playing that I didn't even put a bet on Serena to come back and win

lex pretend, Friday, 3 July 2015 18:30 (nine years ago) link

omg how does Garry Richardson still have this job. Every question about Watson until one about Venus

lex pretend, Friday, 3 July 2015 18:33 (nine years ago) link

That was the first tennis I've watched this year and I turned up in the pub at the exact moment the match turned Serena's way. Oh dear.

Matt DC, Friday, 3 July 2015 18:40 (nine years ago) link

omg how does Garry Richardson still have this job.

His interview with Andy Murray after the match against Haase was abysmal.

ailsa, Friday, 3 July 2015 18:50 (nine years ago) link

Anyway, well done Heather, I doubt Serena will have a tougher match this tournament.

ailsa, Friday, 3 July 2015 18:51 (nine years ago) link

Also, annoyed I didn't cash out my speculative quid placed at 12/1 when she was 3-0 up in the 3rd, but I really thought she was going to go on and do it.

ailsa, Friday, 3 July 2015 18:51 (nine years ago) link

yeah she was in with a shout right up to the end

efreet liberal (Noodle Vague), Friday, 3 July 2015 18:53 (nine years ago) link

This amazing Safarova point was probably also the turning point of her match

Muguruza/Kerber and Niculescu/Pliskova are two v entertaining stylistic contrasts right now

It occurs to me that Kerber and Niculescu have two of my favourite FHs in tennis, for very different reasons

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 11:22 (nine years ago) link

Titanic game by Muguruza. 16 minutes, eight deuces, five set points saved.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 11:48 (nine years ago) link

point of the tournament there

cerealbar, Saturday, 4 July 2015 11:49 (nine years ago) link

omfg the first point of the TB

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 11:50 (nine years ago) link

Muguruza has saved 7 SPs now. Two with FH winners on the line

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 11:58 (nine years ago) link

What a superb set of tennis that was from Kerber/Mug.

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:06 (nine years ago) link

Insane quality. Muguruza saves NINE set points, at least three with winners right on the line, and takes the TB 14-12. Two more sets of that please

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:07 (nine years ago) link

I fear for Petra facing either of these two playing like that.

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:13 (nine years ago) link

Browns just won a set. 2-1 against Troicki

tayto fan (Michael B), Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:26 (nine years ago) link

Niculescu into week two of a Slam for the second time :))))))))

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:27 (nine years ago) link

Muguruza easily the 92-95 (or whatever) generation player i've been most impressed by

cerealbar, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:28 (nine years ago) link

She fell off just a bit in the second set. What a contrast.

In the 1992-95 generation I'd put Keys' potential above Muguruza's but those are definitely the two most impressive to me.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:38 (nine years ago) link

Meanwhile, Giorgi has hit her 300th DF of 2015

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:43 (nine years ago) link

(Not an exaggeration, her actual 300th)

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:43 (nine years ago) link

Maria just hit a dropshot ROS vs Keys

groovemaaan, Saturday, 4 July 2015 12:59 (nine years ago) link

Kerber/Muguruza getting good again (and just in time for Kerber, who woke up at 1-3 15-40 down)

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:01 (nine years ago) link

That game where she was down 00-40 and still won it was amazing.

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:06 (nine years ago) link

Haha @ that match ending on a Hawkeye challenge so close

Brilliant performance by the White Mug over one of the most in-form opponents tbh. Really time for her to make a push for the top 10 rather than floating around #20 forever

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:18 (nine years ago) link

isner has mishit like 8 shots already since the restart

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:52 (nine years ago) link

& bails himself out w some bomb serves

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:52 (nine years ago) link

Haaaaaaa @ that match's resumption lasting two games and finishing with an Isner DF. PERFECT

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:58 (nine years ago) link

Potential tournament-ruining nightmare stopped in its tracks. BEGONE

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:59 (nine years ago) link

the ball kid ran all the way back across ct and i think fucked up his tempo there

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 13:59 (nine years ago) link

agree m/l xp

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 14:00 (nine years ago) link

ugh there is nothing worse than Groth servebotting out a set when I want him OFF THE COURT immediately.

oh, boy, .GIF! That's where I'm a Viking! (edwardo), Saturday, 4 July 2015 14:12 (nine years ago) link

timea is exposing lisicki there

groovemaaan, Saturday, 4 July 2015 14:39 (nine years ago) link

espn is asking fed to explain his emojis lol

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:01 (nine years ago) link

Tsonga got robbed :(

groovemaaan, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:12 (nine years ago) link

Blatant double hit from Karlovic down SP.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:23 (nine years ago) link

Elsewhere, Govortsova makes it two Belarusians in a Slam second week ever (the last non-Azarenka BLR in a Slam second week was Olga Barabanschikova, Wimbledon 2000). Jankovic playing very well to take Petra to three, let's see how long it lasts. Pospisil seems to have got it together for now vs Ward.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:25 (nine years ago) link

ffs Petra, get it together.

holger sharkey (Tom D.), Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:34 (nine years ago) link

If Jankovic had only had a serve like this in her prime...

Petra's first serve seems to have gone missing but aside from that I don't think she's playing that badly.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:39 (nine years ago) link

Oh my god. 4-4, 30-30, Petra stops the rally to challenge (AFTER she'd hit a really great cross-court FH that had Jankovic on the run). Obviously she was wrong. IDIOT

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:53 (nine years ago) link

Oh my gawwwwwwd these errors suddenly. From 30-0 to 30-40, MP Jankovic

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:57 (nine years ago) link

lol petra

johnny crunch, Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:58 (nine years ago) link

Oh well, bye bye Petra

holger sharkey (Tom D.), Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:58 (nine years ago) link

Bollocks

holger sharkey (Tom D.), Saturday, 4 July 2015 16:58 (nine years ago) link

Well, probably Jelena's best ever win at Wimbledon. Petra...no comment for how the last two games unfolded.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 17:00 (nine years ago) link

Also what the fuck is going to happen in that bottom half now. Here's your women's last 16.

(1) Serena Williams (USA) vs. (16) Venus Williams (USA)
(23) Victoria Azarenka (BLR) vs. (30) Belinda Bencic (SUI)
(4) Maria Sharapova (RUS) vs. Zarina Diyas (KAZ)
Coco Vandeweghe (USA) vs. (6) Lucie Safarova (CZE)
(5) Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) vs. (20) Garbiñe Muguruza (ESP)
(15) Timea Bacsinszky (SUI) vs. Monica Niculescu (ROU)
(Q) Olga Govortsova (BLR) vs. (21) Madison Keys (USA)
(13) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) vs. (28) Jelena Jankovic (SRB)

Going with Serena, Vika, Ma$ha, Lucie, Garbiñe, Timea, Madison, Aga.

Venus is obv in better form but form doesn't historically matter that much in all-Williams matches, I cannot see Venus ending her little sister's Serena Slam. Niculescu actually leads the h2h against Bacsinszky 4-1 but all those matches were in Bacsinszky's first career...I would be delighted with a Niculescu run obviously.

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 July 2015 17:10 (nine years ago) link

You probably know exactly what's happening in Monfils/Simon. Exhibition tennis. Exhibition attitudes. Monfils serving at SP in the third set TB, has fit of giggles. Loses ensuing point, is still giggling
