this is my first three-day weekend since march and i am . . . wasting it, i guess? cool

I just wasted this past weekend, so I cannot judge.

I'm having red wine and listening to "More". Been listening to a lot of early Floyd recently on youtube, and this is probably the best of the non-Barrett early albums.

Not really but on the rare occasion slack or discord

why is drinking so popular? it's one of the worst drugs. the cycles of 12 ounce pisses, the feeling the next day. you can end up with a lampshade on your head. but sometimes there is also a quiet dignity in being drunk while trying to do thinks normally

It's legal.

1) Because a substantial industry advocates on its behalf; and 2) it's a socially sanctioned way of transcending normal consciousness.

That's part of it.

The other way of looking at it is that some bits of life are amicably complemented by drinking, and vice versa. In the way that wines and food go well together. Or the way that when you put complementary colors next to each other, both benefit and seem truer and more vibrant.

Camaraderie, joy, food, celebration, even quiet solitary contemplation are among these. It's not that one _must_ drink to make these enjoyable - it's that one _can_, and the combination is pleasing. So why not, provided this can be done without harming others (or oneself overmuch)?

im sure there is a heroin addict something thinking the same thing about non-junkies

drinking is a hugely socially acceptable thing w massive industry & promotional push behind it, portrayed as cool in every pop song and tv show and movie, it is hardly interesting behavior

but dont let that stop you from patting yourself on the back pretending that pointless consumption is actually some philosophical approach towards life
