you're definitely right, and it is a credit to the show that they are developing a strong, accessible metaphor for the entire audience.
this probably would've been more in the back of my mind if it weren't for the immense online fan support and (i believe) hastily-retracted comments from SU artists who worked on the show, much like Olivia Olson

I love these vampire episodes too! A lot of Mike Mignola influence on the character designs for the vampire crew, I think.

"The television character does not match the plaintiff in appearance," Thompson ruled. "GBF appears as a non-human creature, a giant floating head with no body from outer space, while Plaintiff is a human being.

"And when GBF loses his title, the character literally explodes, unlike Plaintiff."

That was incredible.

Evan, Monday, 30 November 2015 19:33 (eight years ago) link

i thought the eight ep run was maybe trying to engage in world building a bit hard? but tbh i don't care, i'm such a fanboy and it was a fun run.
i kinda lost it at this point

yeah we loved it - watched the entire arc tonight

Mordy, Thursday, 3 December 2015 04:59 (eight years ago) link

there is some serious Mr. Belvedere love up in CN, was a whole Steven Universe ep dedicated to it

Nhex, Thursday, 3 December 2015 05:25 (eight years ago) link

what a strange thing to still care about

I watched all of the latest season yesterday. Wow.
Really good start.

The Once-ler, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 13:53 (eight years ago) link

we've been feeling like it has been a little weaker lately (esp compared to Steven U) but i thought the marceline long arc was great

Mordy, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 14:56 (eight years ago) link

I was feeling some of the weak stuff last season but I like the complex &adult situations this season. The good devil's in the details I think. Lots of unpredictable things with the usual amped up creativity is always a plus.

I can go into details of my favorite bits later after work

The Once-ler, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 15:02 (eight years ago) link

Before I forget I would like to mention that the character reenforcement has been really strong and enjoyable when it's happening.

The Once-ler, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 15:15 (eight years ago) link

I always like new BMO episodes
the president porpoise one... i dunno.
looking forward to the robot chicken looking episode, he said for the first time ever.

robot chicken didn't invent claymation!

Mordy, Wednesday, 13 January 2016 15:26 (eight years ago) link

of course not, but that style looks extremely robot chicken-y and i'd bet that company/staff/creative director is involved somehow.

"Hall of Egress" felt like a re-written Aeon Flux script. Of course I mean that in the greatest possible way

Nhex, Saturday, 12 March 2016 06:05 (eight years ago) link

Yeah that was maybe their best ep this season.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 12 March 2016 11:09 (eight years ago) link

It was great. Just rewatched "Scamps" too which was a lot of fun.

Evan, Saturday, 12 March 2016 15:21 (eight years ago) link

reminded me of the pillow kingdom episode - that kind of sad otherworldliness + the strangeness of time passing

Mordy, Saturday, 12 March 2016 15:22 (eight years ago) link

also it was their first instance in a while of cramming in the best/funniest moment RIGHT at the end, which is one of my favorite things they do

Like "Mama Said" right?

One of my children is learning the "I Remember You" Marceline/Ice King song at her piano lessons and has seriously almost brought me to tears with her rendition of it.

http://tvline.com/2016/09/29/adventure-time-cancelled-no-season-10-cartoon-network/

Probably time for this show to be put to bed, to be honest. Nine seasons has got to be some kind of record for original Cartoon Network shows, though (not counting weird stuff like SGC2C).

Nhex, Thursday, 29 September 2016 16:07 (seven years ago) link

Tragic! And I think I read that Steven Universe is on indefinite hiatus, too.

Dan I., Thursday, 29 September 2016 16:44 (seven years ago) link

That means they have two more seasons to resolve whatever arcs they want to resolve, while avoiding a Simpsons-like purgatory. As much as I love the series and hope that some other meal ticket for underground cartoonists arises to take its place, that endpoint seems reasonable.

Xp

one way street, Thursday, 29 September 2016 16:45 (seven years ago) link

Although given that "season" means anywhere from 25 to 55 eps, two more full seasons is a lot more AT

Dan I., Thursday, 29 September 2016 16:46 (seven years ago) link

As far as I know, SU is on hiatus until Thanksgiving, but it's never had a regular broadcast schedule, and it's been renewed through the fifth season at least (we're still on the first few episodes of the fourth).

one way street, Thursday, 29 September 2016 16:49 (seven years ago) link

I agree, it's time.

Probably need some kind of all-purpose Cartoon Network thread to drag our children's entertainment-loving shame out of the darkness. Anyway, just read this older analysis of the various cultural and mythical references in Over the Garden Wall which was pretty well done. Four parts.
http://observationdeck.kinja.com/tag/over-the-garden-wall
Feel like that's gonna be one of those shows that kids will remember with love/terror years from now.

Nhex, Thursday, 3 November 2016 15:31 (seven years ago) link

There's a Steven Universe thread: Steven Universe - I can't really be bothered to set up an SU vs AT fite as they are both great in different ways.

not a fan of the minis? i like them, feels like they're really wrapping up the show with these little sagas

Nhex, Saturday, 3 June 2017 14:36 (seven years ago) link

i couldn't even get through the "elements" one. marceline's was okay.

We sat down to watch Islands, thinking it'd be good knockabout fun like Stakes, and were knocked sideways by how heavy it was.

Also I said at one point "I've no idea who they've got to do Minerva's voice, but it sounds a lot like Sharon Horgan.."

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 21 September 2017 13:28 (six years ago) link

Also the numbering is kind of off, because this is parts 3-10 of a bigger story with Preboot/Reboot - my girl hadn't seen those and there was a bit of babbling to fill her in, which probably sounded like a kid making up a story - which tbh is one of the best bits of Adventure Time.

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 21 September 2017 13:36 (six years ago) link

i know i'm a broken record here, but the new batch weren't much good... with the exception of the PB mythos ep which provided some helpful background on her character. very much ready for this to be let go.

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 21 September 2017 13:43 (six years ago) link

I'm confused about how many eps/seasons are left to go.
