tbf chipotle's own scare ads about SILICON DIOXIDE added to food are as bad.

ignorance of target audience a double edged sword for chipotle, republicans, etc.

I still like their burritos but am becoming increasingly wary

I definitely plan to go back to eating chipotle but not until they straighten this out.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 24 December 2015 15:10 (eight years ago) link

two weeks pass...

The precise thing which causes outbreaks like this to occur on the scale they do is centralization of processing. Chipotle's response has been to increasingly centralize processing, as if implying that unsafe food handling at local stores was the problem here (which it wasn't). This will just keep happening.

I actually walked by the local Chipotle yesterday, completely empty except for seven employees goofing off and eating. Eating Chipotle.

stupid children forever (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 15 January 2016 10:41 (eight years ago) link

I ate Chipotle yesterday, thinking I could get back to the good old times. It sucked.

jamchiraquai (how's life), Friday, 15 January 2016 10:44 (eight years ago) link

I ate it like a week ago, figuring at the moment it had to probably be safe considering all the pressure on them. It actually tasted a little bit different - saltier and the flavor wasn't as good, and I wondered if that was a result of a safety change or just my perception.

haven't eaten at the ol' chipottel for a while. all the bacteria issues were regional, weren't they? prob safe, should go have a 'rito

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 15 January 2016 16:00 (eight years ago) link

the meat supply, man, it's all interconnected

j., Friday, 15 January 2016 16:01 (eight years ago) link

they were regional in multiple regions is what concerns me. Honestly that still seems odd to me -- Boston, Minnesota, So Cal, I assume these places aren't all sharing one distribution center.

I haven't been to Chipotle in ages but i'm kinda surprised the food's gone noticeably downhill; I've always kinda loved it for what it was tbh (a giant piece of carb with tasty and inoffensive rice/meat/cheese/salsa inside)

Until they fix things, just go to Mod Pizza, the pizza version of Chipotle!

erry red flag (f. hazel), Friday, 15 January 2016 17:16 (eight years ago) link

I ate at Chipotle today. It tasted fine to me. I figure it's probably safer to eat there now than most places, while they're fixated on food safety issues.

I expel a minor traveler's flatulence (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 15 January 2016 19:44 (eight years ago) link

i do find it funny tho how the general public waits for a major issue to be found before they start avoiding specific fast food joints. it isn't as if the issues only begin when someone begins shitting like death. this wasn't a location handling issue as stated above but if the laymen knew how most fast food places prepped food or the questionable places they got meat from you'd probably have a Pavlovian vomit reaction upon even thinking about one.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Friday, 15 January 2016 19:45 (eight years ago) link

feel like many people have worked in fast food. I worked at Dairy Queen, and stuff was clean.

I expel a minor traveler's flatulence (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 15 January 2016 19:46 (eight years ago) link

well consider yourself lucky then. it isn't just fast food joints. those Bar Rescue "omg disgusting" exposes may be theatrical but we had serious cleanliness issues like that at Chevy's Fresh Mex and usually got fined during every inspection. and also had a rat problem in the building. that sometimes made itself known to customers.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Friday, 15 January 2016 19:48 (eight years ago) link

lol I have only been to a couple Chevys locations but are they fast casual now? Last I saw, they were Chi-Chi's 2.0

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:42 (eight years ago) link

tbh my home prep environment is no better but it only has one individual with questionable hygiene and the supply chain is much harder to pin down

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:44 (eight years ago) link

not to mention, as an avid Bar Rescue viewer, the problem there is not food poisoning! people could get sick but seldom do, small miracle

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:45 (eight years ago) link

I don't think prep is any more likely to be unhygienic at "fast food" restaurants than at some mom-and-pop, maybe even less so since you hypothetically have corporate-wide policies and procedures in place. Anecdotally, usually when people get food poisoning it's from a small restaurant, not McDonald's

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:46 (eight years ago) link

it's hit a few regions in turn but the possibility is that, by trusting mid-sized organic operations, chipotle is ending up with tainted materials at their distribution hubs

For every underpaid angry mentally-unstable Tyson employee smacking a chicken into the wall, there is a well-sanitized cutting and rendering assembly line that might not be there for chipotle

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:50 (eight years ago) link

I got pretty bad food poisoning from Burger King once, but it was a one-off next to the interstate.

μpright mammal (mh), Friday, 15 January 2016 20:51 (eight years ago) link

The last time I ate at McDonald's was ~25 years ago; I was halfway through my Big Mac when I became violently ill. I ran outside and threw up in the gutter - right in front of the place's huge picture window, in full view of all the other customers.

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Friday, 15 January 2016 21:01 (eight years ago) link

you are a slow eater or that Big Mac was fine

I expel a minor traveler's flatulence (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 15 January 2016 23:20 (eight years ago) link

or maybe that big mac specifically was poisoned. I don't know. That just doesn't sound like a typical case of food poisoning.

I expel a minor traveler's flatulence (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 15 January 2016 23:28 (eight years ago) link
