I don't think prep is any more likely to be unhygienic at "fast food" restaurants than at some mom-and-pop, maybe even less so since you hypothetically have corporate-wide policies and procedures in place. Anecdotally, usually when people get food poisoning it's from a small restaurant, not McDonald's

it's hit a few regions in turn but the possibility is that, by trusting mid-sized organic operations, chipotle is ending up with tainted materials at their distribution hubs

For every underpaid angry mentally-unstable Tyson employee smacking a chicken into the wall, there is a well-sanitized cutting and rendering assembly line that might not be there for chipotle

I got pretty bad food poisoning from Burger King once, but it was a one-off next to the interstate.

The last time I ate at McDonald's was ~25 years ago; I was halfway through my Big Mac when I became violently ill. I ran outside and threw up in the gutter - right in front of the place's huge picture window, in full view of all the other customers.

you are a slow eater or that Big Mac was fine

or maybe that big mac specifically was poisoned. I don't know. That just doesn't sound like a typical case of food poisoning.

Whatever it was, I've never been back. Total aversion therapy success story. (Though I do eat Wendy's and White Castle about 2-3 times a year each.)

Gotta say, when Starbucks closed all its stores for a day for a Come to Jesus reboot, the back to basics turnaround proved massively successful. But then, Starbucks was not dealing with a food poisoning crisis.

I've eaten at Chipotle 2 or 3 times, generous portions of fairly crappy food. Their popularity in austin mystified me as there are so many ways to get superior tacos here. I wasn't particularly impressed by their "brave" stand on food sourcing and am not at all surprised to see it all turn to shit (literally). If this is the end, I will not miss them.

idk, I'm actually a little disappointed -- they're never my first choice when there are options around, but it's really good to have a Chipotle in a pinch, like I was really happy to see it last time I was in an airport, and it stays open late near my office when I'm working late and most good options are closed.

Sort of what Starbucks is to coffee imo -- not amazing but raised the game for areas that didn't have much to offer before.

they're cooking them before shipping and then grilling them again in the store. tasted like bland overcooked meat! they might be ditching the changes though apparently

theres like dozens of solid local burrito places in boston and yet all the college kids from out of town just go to chipotle since it's what they know, it makes me sad

it's pretty amazing how the Fast Casual Burrito has taken off in my lifetime though, when i was in high school my friends and i used to drive all the way into the city to eat at one of said places since the literal only option in the suburbs was taco bell

now there's a chipotle or qdoba or boloco in every shopping plaza, none of these existed until 10-12 years ago

they shd just go 100% vegetarian, problem solved

e.coli problem solved? Most recent e.coli outbreaks have been transmitted via raw vegetables. If it comes from meat, it'll come on ground beef, which Chipotle doesn't serve.

the red salsa (the hottest one they have which is p moderate in life's grand spice spectrum)

No rice (they overseason the rice)

fajita onions/peppers

a little hot salsa
a little cheese
a little sour cream
lettuce

guacamole and sofritas togehter makes for an expensive trip to the burrito gutter

I do admire how if you get lettuce on a burrito you are committing to eating it all in one sitting because there's no way that you can enjoy at a later date

say at your arraignment or jury trial

i'll never understand why chipotle is always prone to angry foodie policing or whatever it is, people like(d) it but no one talks about it like it isn't just a half a step above fast food. it's cheap and massive and quick and easy and it tastes good enough for me to occasionally have cravings for it. an $8 burrito is enough to keep me fed for a day and actually satisfied.

i wish the situation was different but i don't have the money or usually the time to partake in the authenticish mexican restaurants that have survived late capitalism. or the food trucks that close down before i get home from work. in the meantime i will continue to be enthusiastic over my delicious mass produced garbage pouch, at least once they go back to cooking their steak the appropriate number of times

dunno where you're at but oxido is pretty good as like an almost literal chipotle rip off

my boss reps dos toros but when i tried to go there was a line of startup dudes out the door. so i went to "desi shack," the kati roll fast casual place next door, which looked, felt and tasted exactly like a nyu business student's undergrad thesis.

so that's another non chipotle option for custom constructed food cylinders

i hope chipotle goes out of business

according to their store locator there are now 19 chipotles within a one mile radius of my office, that is a lot of chipotles!

interesting i thought desi shack would have been more than a kati roll clone (there's already a kati roll clone right across the street from the original kati roll!)
