having watched the trailer, this looks like so much garbage with so many name actors

This didn't come out like 5 months ago? I figured it would be on DVD by now.

how's life, Wednesday, 20 January 2016 18:06 (eight years ago) link

it looks like it could be from those comic book TV shows that i don't watch.

Cringed at Queen. But. It looks different from Marvel movies so it automatically feels fresh in the superhero world. Even if it's bad, it's doing something.

This is the old DC film I'm interested in, mainly due to the comics. I'm curious how you take a framework set up by Ostrander et al, shit thru the Nu52 years, and then make a Snyder-era movie from it.

Professor Goodfeels (kingfish), Wednesday, 20 January 2016 19:04 (eight years ago) link

the trailer provides plenty of suggestion and "shit thru the Nu52 years" looks right on. hard to believe millar isn't involved somehow.

I can't see anything related to this without whispering.... Badguy Patrol

μpright mammal (mh), Wednesday, 20 January 2016 19:09 (eight years ago) link

There was some DC special that I didn't watch after Flash last night where I guess they debuted this trailer. Which I'm sure made synergistic sense to some DC exec but to many fans of the WB shows, it was probably more like "Hey, remember some of these characters from the shows you enjoy? Well, here they are again except they're not actually the same characters as the ones on TV and they're being played by different people! Isn't that fun?"

So fresh, this shittified version of a comic from 1988.

Funny that a modern, knockoff version of this has already been running for three years now, to universal critical acclaim and sales of literally hundreds of copies an issue. Imagine Warners just hiring Fiffe.

Badguy Patrol

The good thing this movie has caused is that DC is finally (after a failed attempt a few years ago) collecting the original 80s/90s Ostrander run, which is one of the best superhero comics of its era.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 20 January 2016 23:19 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, getting Michel Fiffe on this would be awesome

They're not doing it any more finally now than they did it finally those few years ago.

Well at least they managed to get the second TPB out this time, and you can pre-order the third and fourth on Amazon. But I agree that it doesn't necessarily mean anything, the last time they were gonna put out the second TPB, and you could pre-order that too, but then it suddenly vanished with no explanation. Let's just hope the movie + the existing fanbase for the comic nets in enough demand for these that they're gonna collect the whole series. (Though I'm still sour at DC for cancelling the Shade and Human Target TPBs before the whole series was collected.)

Tuomas, Thursday, 21 January 2016 08:14 (eight years ago) link

It looks like a movie made specifically for juggalos

kurt schwitterz, Thursday, 21 January 2016 08:21 (eight years ago) link

DC has perfected the art of starting reprint series they don't finish. It's really quite astonishing how good they are at it.

Meat Sheet (Old Lunch), Thursday, 21 January 2016 13:25 (eight years ago) link

yeah I am super-pissed there were only three volumes of Superman: Man of Tomorrow and now it looks like there won't be any more DC Archives...?

i have now seen so many people run with that obviously satirical article about jared leto thinking it was 100% true (how????) that i think i'm starting to be inclined to think this movie is adorable just in response

i still won't see it but gosh some people

most of the comments on the deadspin article itself are responding to the joke screenshots as if they are from a real article

three weeks pass...

During an interview with Vanity Fair, How to Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis was also asked about Jared Leto’s bizarre behavior on the set of Suicide Squad.

“He did some bad things, Jared Leto did,” she said. “He gave some really horrific gifts. He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room, and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out. And that was our introduction into Jared Leto.”

is that healthy?! abnormally expensive re-shoots which are because of the *critics* reponse to *another film by a different studio*?? i find that.. hard to believe.

piscesx, Thursday, 31 March 2016 21:32 (eight years ago) link

im sure the test screenings demand it as well.. these shitty blockbusters are all focus grouped to death.

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Thursday, 31 March 2016 21:40 (eight years ago) link

that happens, big studio films have focus groups, modify plots to expand intended audiences, all kinds of shit

on one hand there are writers, a director, and actors making a theatrical production

on the other hand, it's a money-making exercise to maximize the number of people who attend, changing characters so they work better on t-shirts and as action figures

Spidey thought

Hey Amy - just a couple of rando thoughts from 35,000 LAX-JFK:

- A rising trend we see with Millennials are the really extreme forms of experiential exercise like Tough Mudder (a sort of filthy triathalon), the Color Run and even things like Hot Power Yoga, veganism etc. Millennials will often post “N.B.D.” on their social media after doing it , as in No Big Deal, also known as the “humble brag”.....wondering if Spidey could get into that in some way....he’s super athletic, bendy, strong, intense....and it’s all NBD to him, of course.

- EDM (electronic dance music) is the defining music for Millennials. Wondering if there’s an EDM angle somewhere with Spidey? His movements are beautiful, would be awesome with a killer DJ behind it

- Snapchat just launched a “story” functionality, which is sort of “day in the life of me” told in a series of snapchats that expire after 24 hours. It has a very VIP quality about it, since invitation only. Getting invited into Spidey’s Snapchat circle would be huge, and very buzzworthy and cool.

"What are you, some kind of... badguy patrol?"

every Joker line is some variant of "Don't you see... I'm the only sane person"
