xp to stevie I've had that creamer before & it *is* good; like, better than it should be? idk, v much into it thoug

bernard snowy, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 00:23 (eight years ago) link

ya I want to try the others! The only thing I don't like is that the ratio of flavor and creaminess are locked in, like i can't make it creamier w/o making it sweeter and vice versa

I AM A MILLENNIAL AND I WANT OPTIONS

haha the lack of options is exactly why I like it! tho my preference on any given day fluctuates between black/cream/cream+sugar/sugar (in descending order of frequency), the fixed ratio of that particular creamer generally hits the spot for my "cream+sugar" preference while giving me one less thing to potentially screw up! (I prefer to pour cream and/or sugar first & then add the coffee -- saves the need for a spoon or stirrer, makes it easier to see how much I'm using, & raises the stakes a bit since I'm stuck with whatever comes out)

Coffee has oils in it that go rancid, hence I favor frequent cleaning.

nomar, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:08 (eight years ago) link

, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:25 (eight years ago) link

its not... terrible tho? i think i mentioned i bought it just to have some quick caffeine around before workouts but i dont hate it tbf, i started drinking the canned cof on long drives and i kinda grew to like it in its own way, i just love sugar too, which i dont allow myself in my cof generally

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:29 (eight years ago) link

i like medium-dark (a 'vienna' roast i think?) for blends and low priced beans

i like the whole foods big bags they're cheap and p good

back when i used to do single origin or plantation or w/e i went with city or full city roasts for maximum flavor

i think light roast coffee can be bright/sour and fatiguing after a while i have come to appreciate the darker roasts

, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:32 (eight years ago) link

if a light roast is sour that generally means its under extracted (of course sour is subjective so it cld mean anything)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:34 (eight years ago) link

i like medium tho cause im extremely reasonable

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:34 (eight years ago) link

for me it varies by region like the central/south american coffees tend to be sour but not the african ones, same extraction meth

, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:38 (eight years ago) link

huh interesting

lag∞n, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:39 (eight years ago) link

a lot of commercial "bold/dark" roasts just taste burnt to shit, we only go bold at home if we are familliar w the roaster (god that sounds like such hipster wank, sorry)

i prefer medium roast for my lattes tho

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:42 (eight years ago) link

my friend roasts his own beans and does a nice dark roast. that Danny Trejo coffee i got is a dark roast and it's pretty smooth.

nomar, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:46 (eight years ago) link

the dark roast makes a smooth cof

, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:48 (eight years ago) link

might make another cof right now

nomar, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 18:49 (eight years ago) link

I will take bitter/burnt over sour any day.

third lavish floral light roasts often skew towards the sour. i feel about those the way i feel about a lot of IPAs i guess. not for me.

when i find a nice smooth chocolate/toffee/caramel/hazelnut kind of light to medium roast it's almost my ideal coffee.

nomar, Wednesday, 2 March 2016 21:09 (eight years ago) link

some sour third wave coffee is too sour imo

my local whole foods currently has a costa rica and colombia light roast that are actually described with those exact words (chocolate, caramel, respectively)

i too buy from a third wave place thats def on the light-medium spectrum, like they dont even label them as such

i would love to find a smooth choc/tof/caramel/nutty light to medium!! All the ones I find like that are DARK and BITTER, too gross

rrrobyn and i had a v intersting chat in mtl abt 3 wave cof, iirc rrrobyn you said that there are maybe 2 or 3 places that do it but not really that many??

guys idk if you have been to mtl but "coffee culture" there is just, uh, "culture", like EVERY place you go (diner, take out places, maybe some bodegas/deps idk) has an espresso machine and all the coffee you ever get anywhere is just fucking GREAT, like divey little corner poutine place has the latte of yr life, it's so cool

i got some recently that i swear to god had a pineapple taste to it, crazy days man, crazy days

make SURE that when you order it you order it as "le cof" otherwise they will scoff at u

nothing worse than a montrealian scoff

I find Colombian (non-dark-roast) most reliable for this, especially if you're not shelling out for some kind of super-coddled single estate microlot stuff.

Guatemalan, Costa Rican, Peruvian all also pretty reliable. Avoid Brazilian coffee. African coffees tend to have a more tea-like flavor imo, can be very interesting, subtle and complex but not necessarily what I want in my daily cup.

In Germany they disapprove of u keeping it within the walls of a fortified medieval structure

Ecomigrant gnomics (darraghmac), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 22:53 (eight years ago) link

xp I got an Ethiopian recently that tasted just like bergamot!!! So crazy!!

rn I've got that Guatemalan I mentioned upthread that's really fruity/complex ("WE TASTE: Honey, Vanilla, Mango, Peach" says the website) which is great but I'm gonna ask their recommendation for like a nutty choc tof jawn next time I go

Would u like an extra shot with ur ice-cold xp

A few more third wave places have come to my attention, mostly in mile end, little Italy and near McGill. Good coffee but not really for me. But yeah the general espresso here is darker - and everywhere, thank god :)

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 2 March 2016 23:53 (eight years ago) link
