it doesn't open up until after one of the missions, sweet rings you up to tell you it's open

I think the muscle stuff is counter-fun as well. I built up my muscle, and at one point gained enough respect to form a three man gang. If driving around (eg in the paramedic missions) and its attendant drop in muscle loses me that respect, then that is over the line into Simsland.

i pumped up the muscle a lot from the start and it never deteriorated (the regular exercise you get from wasting ballas will keep your muscle going)

Dumb question, but what vehicle allows you to travel with a four man gang (that's five including CJ)? I got bumped up to 4 on Friday night, which was great, but even when I jacked a van, only three were able to get in. And when I walk or run with my gang, I end up losing half of them.

Sadly, the highlight of my afternoon yesterday may have been stealing a boat and taking to the sea into the sunset with the organ intro of "Freebird" blaring.

I keep beating the shit out of the pool sharks after they take my money again and getting my money back. There's gotta be a better way to make a buck.

You people are so far ahead of me on this.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2004 19:24 (nineteen years ago) link

The best way I've found to make money - save, bet on horses, save again if you win/reload and repeat if you don't. I might just have been extremely lucky but I went from 5 grand to just over 2 million in 20 minutes. Which has now taken half the fun away from running around the beach shooting people for money.

lupine lupin (lupinelupin), Monday, 8 November 2004 20:05 (nineteen years ago) link

Are the horses in Los Santos, or one of the later cities?

57 7th (calstars), Monday, 8 November 2004 20:26 (nineteen years ago) link

And what the hell was I supposed to do with the bouquet of flowers? I aimed at one of the ladies and wound up smacking her across the face with them.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2004 20:28 (nineteen years ago) link

i had crazy ideas about shooting people through the flowers; dirty den style.

i keep going to the pizza place and waiting for people to crouch on the floor and then i kill them execution style. There was one woman i made up a whole backstory of kids and stuff for and then i shot her in the back of the head.

i think i need to give this game a break.

You know what song is notably absent? "Groove is in the Heart" by Deee-Lite.

I know what you mean, Toaster. Not only did I spend all weekend playing it, but now I can't stop talking about it on the internet.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 8 November 2004 21:29 (nineteen years ago) link

oh wow i played this game from 10am till 5pm non stop today, i'm still being amazed by some of the stuff in here. helicopter parachute jumps are the best.

i still havent seen any one player rampages though. the x50 camera snapshots on the second island are good fun and an excuse to explore the place a bit more.

"Zero's" missions are the fuking hardest ever!

i've been having this exact same thought

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 09:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Zero's "Air Raid" mission took me about 35 tries before I could beat it. I hate David Cross because of it.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 11:11 (nineteen years ago) link

i'm still stuck on that stupid wrong side of the tracks mission.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 13:03 (nineteen years ago) link

OG Loc's squeal/yelp "I'm Gangsta!" is officially the funniest thing ever. I look forward to finding opportunities to use it in everyday conversation.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:38 (nineteen years ago) link

As of last night I'm officially dating someone. Nice.

57 7th (calstars), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:47 (nineteen years ago) link

Did you use the flowers?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:53 (nineteen years ago) link

the date thing lasted all of two dates for me. i ain't got time for no bitches.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 14:55 (nineteen years ago) link

I love it when the date's going badly and all you can hear in the background is:

"FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TEL ME"

I'm not sure I like Denice

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Every time I take that ho out all she wants to do are drive bys. Fuckin hood rat.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:32 (nineteen years ago) link

you think she's special, don't you?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:32 (nineteen years ago) link

apparently if you want to 100% complete you have to make all the dates go successful.

god damn i was looking forward to killing my girlfriend.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:34 (nineteen years ago) link

Is it possible to murder her? Besides driving from San Fierro all the way to Los Santos just to take the bitch out for a burger is too time consuming.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:34 (nineteen years ago) link

i don't think she ever dies... i took her to a gang war AND our car exploded, i was there thinking "DEEEEENISEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" but she was still alive.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:36 (nineteen years ago) link

Apparently you can use the dildo on the very last gf you get.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Euw, have you seen the size of it?!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:38 (nineteen years ago) link

yes, i've beaten people with it.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Last night I picked Denise up for a date, then seconds later the hood was under attack. So I got out and started shooting at people. She stood beside me. I killed a couple of people, then attempted to kiss her (was shut down), then handed her the dildo (which she accepted), killed more people, then went out for chicken.
I think I'll take her to a gang war next. Then pizza.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:45 (nineteen years ago) link

then ass fucking with the purple pussy eater.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:46 (nineteen years ago) link

be sure to go to Bincos for the Trucker Hat first!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:47 (nineteen years ago) link

There's a little alleyway on your right (heading east). It's down there.

This direction made me think of that scene in GoodFellas where Jimmy Conway is telling Karen Hill to go ahead, go on, that pretty dress is around the corner there. It's okay....

The last thing I did last night was swim over to Flint County even though I haven't opened it up yet. I hijacked a cab and had the most intense car chase with my four stars. I got pretty far. At one point, I jumped off a bridge, and the cops were following me into the water in their police Suburbans trying to get me.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:42 (nineteen years ago) link

where can I pick up an mp5 for free?

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:48 (nineteen years ago) link

I am so far behind you all.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:49 (nineteen years ago) link

after his week off work jimD has overtaken me so much now - he had his S&M sex five days before me. i've only just moved to San Fierro

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:54 (nineteen years ago) link

you can't be that far behind Ronan, I did two missions this morning flukily but I haven't been playoing much lately thanks to Footie manager

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:00 (nineteen years ago) link

im really far behind i haven't had much time for intense missioning.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:03 (nineteen years ago) link

im stuck on the "photo opportunity" mission. I get too nervous and start photographing everything but what i am supposed to shoot. then i get pissed and start sniping people from the rooftop. i like teh snipe.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:07 (nineteen years ago) link

There is also a cool way of making some extra money in Downtown. Off track betting. You can bet on horse races. Good times. I can;t wait to see what the "Vegas" section of the game looks like.

Just how are you all making money at this? The odds are six to one against you everytime since there's not place or show bets allowed. And the odds for the horses don't seem to matter one whit in their performance.

I lost $200 in Red County last night. I was kicking myself all the way on the long trip back to the Grove.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:43 (nineteen years ago) link

"And the odds for the horses don't seem to matter one whit in their performance."

So you bet on no4 and 5 all the time, with their high odds. It helps if you're far enough in the game to be able to buy a save point in one of the villages near to it in case you lose too. Out of 6 races I've won 4 now, so I'm guessing the ones with higher odds are actually more likely to win. Or I have a glitchy game.

lupine lupin (lupinelupin), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I need money to buy a house and a house to win money with! Grand Theft Möbius!

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 21:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Fire Engine missions. Take a car, drive it until it crashes into something and catches fire, preferably where there's other cars to catch fire (the road into the Los Santos airport can be awesome for this, drive it onto the wrong lane, and cars will pile up. I got a dozen-car pile up yesterday). Once enough stuff is ablaze, the fire engine will arrive. Then steal it, hit R3, and money will be yours.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 00:10 (nineteen years ago) link

things like ambulances etc. seem to self-right so much easier in this game - even when they're near horizontal if you steer into where it's tilted it almost always self rights it!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 01:27 (nineteen years ago) link

i don't remember it being this easy in vice city

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 01:27 (nineteen years ago) link

i finally made it onto the third island. i am very happy about this.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 02:11 (nineteen years ago) link

i havent even don nuthin :/

big chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 03:10 (nineteen years ago) link

I seem to remember that ambulances were very easy to upright in VC.

Finally finished tonight... but I'm only at 50.24% completion. Argh. Or yay. Okay, yay.

Joshua Houk (chascarrillo), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 03:36 (nineteen years ago) link

I cannot stop fighting turf wars. I didn't like doing them at first, but now ALL I want to do is roll four-deep into Ballas territory and lob grenades. At this rate, it'll take me months to get to San Fierro.

Daniel Cohen (dayan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:15 (nineteen years ago) link

same here. I finally pulled myself up last night with 50% of the turf under my control so I could do some actual missions!

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 04:24 (nineteen years ago) link

You might want to save the turf missions until after you've gone through the other two cities. Just speaking from pained experience here.

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 05:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Haha I heard about that. On the other hand, I really like killing people. Is that so wrong? Is it?

I got to levels 7 and 11 on the Paramedic missions and fucked up both times, before switching from the east to the west hospital. Advantages: all the streets are level for miles around (leaving only "I'm bleeding in the middle of an Escher painting, can you come get me?" fun) and there's a police bribe 10 feet to the north. After that I found it pretty easy, but then I always found the Paramedic levels easy.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 11:26 (nineteen years ago) link

the vigilente missions are easier on bikes.
