Susannah Mushatt Jones passed away a few days ago - up until that moment, the world's oldest living person and the last American born in the 19th century. She was 116 years, 311 days.
(The oldest now is Emma Moreno from Pallanza, Italy - the only remaining person alive verified to have been born in the 1800s).
