"because members of the CBC might want to participate in the Democratic convention as delegates but if we would have to run for the delegate slot at the county level or state level or district level, we would be running against our constituents and we're not going to do that,”

Hi, despite everything I'm still completely ignorant of delegate / superdelegate rulebook arcana. What do they mean running against their own constits?

How's life, the way I understand it, pledged delegate slots are basically up for grabs to the general public, while superdelegate slots are held by politicians and political operators. If the CBC has to give up their super delegate slots, it would put mean they'd have to use up delegate slots meant for regular citizens to be a part of the convention.

great news everybody!

The billionaire developer increased his line of credit to the campaign by just $2.2 million last month — the smallest amount he has shelled out yet this year — but Trump said in a statement Tuesday that “if need be, there could be unlimited cash on hand as I would put up my own money.”

Such a move would effectively amount to abandonment of the Republican National Committee and the rest of the GOP ticket, which relies on the presidential nominee to help raise hundreds of millions to fund a national field organization for the fall elections.

GOP strategist and fundraiser Austin Barbour said Trump’s dismal fundraising efforts “could have a devastating impact” on the Republican Party generally.

“If they don’t fix this in a massive way, it’s going to have widespread implications down the ballot. It just is,” Barbour said. “If he’s not raising hundreds of millions of dollars, there are gubernatorial races, Senate races, congressional races, attorney general races, you name it, that will be impacted. Those races are dependent upon get-out-the-vote efforts from the RNC and the presidential campaign.”

you know what amazes me about this campaign is usually when you talk about a disaster, you say "everything that could go wrong did go wrong", and in this case, we really haven't even scratched the surface of the stuff that has yet to go wrong.

apparently since trump loaned his campaign $45 mil in the primaries, any new donations he gets could theoretically just go straight into his pocket to pay off the "loan." Lol

he was reading from Peter Schweizer's book

(•̪●) (carne asada), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 15:32 (eight years ago) link

Trump quotes from the book Clinton Cash by Peter Schweizer, which he says “documents how Bill and Hillary used the state department to enrich themselves at America’s expense

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2016/jun/22/us-election-2016-live-updates-donald-trump-speech-clinton-email-ethics

This line inspires the Trump crowd to chant “Trump! Trump! Trump!”

Hillary Clinton may be the most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency.

related to Trump's religion speechifying and announcing of Evangelical leaders and "evangelical executive advisory board":

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/2016/06/21/donald-trumps-b-list-evangelical-advisory-board/

Lists of names like this are a fixture of the white evangelical subculture. This is what we have instead of ecclesiology or church polity. Some would say this is because evangelicals don’t have bishops or popes, but really it’s the opposite problem — we have more bishops and popes than we know what to do with. But these unofficial officials aren’t ordained by elders or elected by congregations. Their investiture as bishops and archbishops is based on book sales, income, radio outlets and — above all — the size and ROI of their direct-mail fundraising lists. It’s a hell of a way to run a church.

What that means in practice is that anyone who wants to mobilize large numbers of white evangelicals for any reason has to make a list of names. That’s true whether the cause is something benign, like promoting Bible reading, or something disgraceful, like trying to get a racist, misogynist, predatory authoritarian elected president. Recruiting white evangelical support always means giving those evangelicals permission to support your cause by listing the names of various celebrity gatekeepers who may have their trust. Hopefully, the folks whose support you’re seeking will see some name on your list of names that will allow them to believe they have permission to support you as well.'

Sentient animated cat gif (kingfish), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 16:37 (eight years ago) link

In other words , this has fuck-all to do with religion as religion and entirely with tribal identification of a group sharing the name with a religious sect. Theology and morality and appeals to such have nothing really to do with it except as reinforcing subcultural shibboleths. He's effectively yelling "Woop! Woop!" and "Fam-uh-Lee! Fam-uh-Lee!" to let the crowd know he's down with the Clown, to torture a metaphor.

Tho I would never insult Juggalos en masse by accusing them of Trump support.

"When I see the crumbling roads and bridges, or the dilapidated airports, or the factories moving overseas to Mexico, or to other countries, I know these problems can all be fixed, but not by Hillary Clinton — only by me," Trump said from his Trump SoHo development in New York City, according to his prepared remarks.
