sadly he's probably the most competent englishman
― pandemic, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 11:31 (eight years ago) link
yeah prob is the best man for the job, like besides that cup run at fulham roy's record is not wildly different from allardici.
strangely if his name was allardici today he wouldn't get the job.
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 28 June 2016 11:35 (eight years ago) link
allardyce would at least set england up like the 'small' team they are and from that mindset try to construct ways to nick results.
― pandemic, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 12:25 (eight years ago) link
for me Allardyce ticks every box including hilarity

Iceland defender Ragnar Sigurdsson has suggested England were complacent before their defeat last night.
Sigurdsson scored Iceland's equalising goal before Kolbeinn Sigthorsson got the winner.
"They thought this would be a walk in the park but we had faith in our ability," Sigurdsson said.
"It went well. We didn't feel that England created any chances. We were just heading away long balls. I wasn't stressed in the second half."

We were just heading away long balls. We were just heading away long balls. We were just heading away long balls. We were just heading away long balls.

wonder if England fall back on these "tactics" because they're shit or because they believe each other are shit
― taking straight talking honest politics a little too literally (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 28 June 2016 14:55 (eight years ago) link
They do it against top-quality opposition as well. It's because they're shit and just run out of ideas when things are down.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 June 2016 15:44 (eight years ago) link
no i mean each player has so little faith in his team-mates to adhere to the plan that they descend into lumpball. i know it's a moot point.

when i read that roy's opening salvo at the post exit presser was "i'm not really sure what i'm doing here" i thought that i was reading a local garda parody.

It was fairly gutless the way he never actually resigned. It was "We'll my contract was up anyway" and "these things happen"

there's a proper passive-aggressive arrogance to woy beneath the "man out of time" exterior
― Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 29 June 2016 13:08 (eight years ago) link
the weakness in roy's character comes from having spent too much of his career abroad. he was never truly suffused with the indomitable english spirit. his failure was inevitable.

not to go too talksport on it, but to act like he's had a rough time with the media or give this "finally i'm free" type press conference is wrong for a guy who got such an easy ride. he earned 3.5m a year and compared to past england managers he got off incredibly lightly, after the worst world cup performance for years. the least he could do is go and talk, for the final time, about why he did such a shit job.
