this is going to be the most entertaining/frightening GOP convention since... the last one

marcos, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 18:53 (seven years ago) link

my favorite part:

Trump has called for a glitzier affair, telling The Washington Post in April that “it’s very important to put some showbiz into a convention, otherwise people are going to fall asleep. We don’t have the people who know how to put showbiz into a convention.”

breathing a sigh of relief that Tom Brady isn't on the list

Has Mike Tyson's reputation been rehabilitated to the point where he's considered an acceptable spokesperson for the GOP? Not that the bar's particularly high...

that adult swim cartoon is pretty funny, i have to admit

There have been more guns sold and more illegals deported under the Obama administration than in any administration in history.

Says you. Personally, I woke up the other day with all my guns missing and swimming in more illegals than ever before. Thanks, Obama. Or should I say, O-Hitler.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 22:23 (seven years ago) link

weird I just read that gun ownership is at a 30-year low

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 22:28 (seven years ago) link

but hey who cares about facts

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 22:29 (seven years ago) link

The percentage of Americans who own guns has dropped. But the Americans who do own guns own more of them, on average, than ever before. So rather than a gun in every home, it's a bunch of gun-less people and some redneck fuckstain two blocks over with a goddamn arsenal in his basement.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Wednesday, 29 June 2016 22:30 (seven years ago) link

I think its just each gun owner has like 10 each now instead of 1 measly ass lil bitch gun

and sometimes the Clintons are just dumb:

Attorney General Loretta Lynch met with former president Bill Clinton at the airport in Phoenix this week — an encounter that she described as “primarily social,” but one that drew instant attention because of the Justice Department’s ongoing investigation into the email practices of his wife, Hillary, while she was secretary of state.

Lynch confirmed the meeting, first reported by ABC15 and others, publicly saying it occurred at the airport where she had just landed for a stop on her nationwide tour of law enforcement agencies. She said that she, her husband and the former president discussed their travels, the former president’s grandchildren and the golf he had played in Arizona.

“No discussions were held on any cases or anything of that,” Lynch said, “and he didn’t raise anything about that either.”

Trump's advice, according to Carr: “Whatever you do, don’t apologize,” Trump said. “You never hear me apologize, do you? That’s what killed Jimmy the Greek way back. Remember? He was doing okay ’til he said he was sorry.”

I know this is a frivolous thing to focus on, but why does he always wear that stupid baseball cap when addressing these rallies? Is it just because his hair would look awful in the wind?

intheblanks, Thursday, 30 June 2016 22:22 (seven years ago) link

duh of course that's why

Οὖτις, Thursday, 30 June 2016 22:23 (seven years ago) link

it's the most presidential thing, a tremendously presidential baseball cap

Clay, Thursday, 30 June 2016 22:26 (seven years ago) link

haha, it was a totally dumb question. obviously there are vastly more important things to think about, just weirded out that every day I see a damn presidential candidate shouting in a cheap-ass hat.

intheblanks, Thursday, 30 June 2016 22:28 (seven years ago) link

I would never say this, but really it's the best hat, a lot of people are saying that this hat, it's unbelievable the hat

Οὖτις, Thursday, 30 June 2016 22:34 (seven years ago) link

however shallow this sounds, whatever, but hair that bad's a major sign someone lacks the judgment to lead

reggie (qualmsley), Thursday, 30 June 2016 22:55 (seven years ago) link

i think 1) the cap is appealing to his intended audience and 2) he likes to wear baseball caps. it's a win-win

ejemplo (crüt), Thursday, 30 June 2016 23:12 (seven years ago) link

He wears caps if he's outdoors, especially getting on and off planes and helicopters, which would be too windy for his hairdon't. He did not, I think, wear them before this presidential run (as he was rarely photographed/televised in such settings before).

Who was it here (one or two threads ago) who suggested that Trump obviously has the money to pay someone to come up with a hairstyle that is acceptable to the professional class, but he pointedly and deliberately does _not_ do so, out of general stubbornness? Perhaps as long as his hair bothers people like me, it's doing its job (or so the argument might run).

takin' care of beersness (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 30 June 2016 23:41 (seven years ago) link

Trump doesn't care enough about other people to do something specifically to rile them up. He does his hair like that ("I'm not bald...I get my hair cut this way!" - Reid Fleming, World's Toughest Milkman) because he likes it.
