in retrospect Ted Cruz would have been the perfect VP pick. Or Jeb. Either one really. Trump LOVED having them around to pick on. They made Trump better! but Pence makes him worse. Emasculates him almost. because Trump is constrained around him, isn't allowed to pick on him. you can tell Trump resents having to say nice things about him.

'you know Ted, well, we shook the lies outta him and he's gonna be fine. Got a few things to learn, I'm not going to lie. that's why he's only gonna be Vice! but he'll be a fine Veep. Now give him a break! Moving on'

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 18 July 2016 23:22 (seven years ago) link

I am uneasy enough about Trump that I thank heaven for every misstep and mistake that makes it less likely he will win. The man is nearly unadulterated id. He should not get anywhere near the presidency, and yet he is nearer to it now than all but one person. That's way too close for comfort.

xp any proper response to that is going to rightly end up in the trenchant social commentary thread

based stress reduction (crüt), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 00:16 (seven years ago) link

did not know the meaning of the word "chyron" til now. i'm gonna go with my first reading which is that they got this guy as a convention speaker and CNN erroneously described him as a "sitcom star"

Meanwhile, Trump is right now calling into Fox News, during his own convention, and providing additional programming, which is also unusual for a nominee.

So glad this exciting outsider nominee is jettisoning the usual parade of boring politicians, bringing the awesome celebrity star power and pizazz of Scott Baio, Kimberlin Brown, and Antonio Sabato Jr.

rhymes with month (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 01:32 (seven years ago) link

I'm wary of making such statements after having to eat my hat on the nomination, but when I see this convention lineup, it's really, really hard for me to believe they can win this year.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 01:34 (seven years ago) link

BTW "Kimberlin who?" you may ask. "An actress best known for her roles in the television dramas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, Kimberlin Brown is also a California avocado farmer, host of The Design Network’s interior designer show Dramatic Design, and a small business owner."

Two soap opera stars and a sitcom star from decades ago.

They couldn't get Tim Tebow and apparently decided against going with Dennis Rodman, so what globally beloved sports figure did they go with? Why, the LPGA's Natalie Gulbis!!!!!

not a good idea for Cotton to use John Kerry's 2004 DNC line.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 July 2016 01:50 (seven years ago) link

'help is on the way' was kerry theme in 2004
