Donald Trump Jr. on the final Gingrich/Christie/Pence VP choice. "We don't need two Donald Trumps out there competing to be Donald Trump."

a cry for help

based stress reduction (crüt), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:40 (seven years ago) link

ya it speaks to an ongoing theme of incompetence where competence is one of the very most key things voters are looking for in candidates

― lag∞n, Wednesday, July 20, 2016 4:26 PM (12 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Then I'm sure the hyper-polished, perfectly-choreographed, focused-grouped-to-death democratic convention that is forthcoming will please the electorate. /morbsposting

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:41 (seven years ago) link

yes the dem convention will be much much better than this one which has been an absolute disaster

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:42 (seven years ago) link

democratic conventions are generally better, hollywood and all, recall last cycle clint eastwood talking to a chair

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:43 (seven years ago) link

competence is reassuringly flat and boring. that will be the message of the democratic convention.

a little too mature to be cute (Aimless), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:43 (seven years ago) link

ya in some ways (besides the not being well liked one) hillary is kinda the perfect candidate to run against trump

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:45 (seven years ago) link

cld see a lot of boring middle of the road republicans fleeing the party permanently this cycle

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

I do love the idea of him getting crushed in the election by a woman

frogbs, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

Dem convention should just be three days of replaying the RNC on a big screen with the guys from MST3K doing audio.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

important oppty to pick up the boring vote

Sean, let me be clear (silby), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:46 (seven years ago) link

GOP conventions produce more memorable moments. I'll probably tell my kids about Clint Eastwood talking to a chair but I can't remember fuckall about any democratic conventions except "John Kerry reporting for duty."

makes u think

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:47 (seven years ago) link

the debates shd be interesting shdnt take much from her for him to blow his top

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:48 (seven years ago) link

saw someone suggest she shd challenge him to a debate every week for the rest of the way which is a pretty ingenious idea imo, i wld up the stakes tho and make the challenge during a debate right at a moment when hes really mad

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:49 (seven years ago) link

what are the odds trump even participates in the debates? 50%?

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:50 (seven years ago) link

hes got to there no way to dodge if he does its over

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:51 (seven years ago) link

yeah his path to victory does not lie through "refusing to appear on television", HRC would cheerfully go on with Gary Johnson and tag-team him in absentia

Sean, let me be clear (silby), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:53 (seven years ago) link

'if he feels like he's been respected' probably

I feel like that same convention might have had some sort of speech by Barack Obama.

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:53 (seven years ago) link

I can see Trump ranting about not believing a word Crooked Hillary says and therefore the debates are pointless.

carthago delenda est (mayor jingleberries), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 21:57 (seven years ago) link

I bet he'll do the first debate, but if it doesn't go well, I can see him refusing to do the other ones (after going on a rant about how the media is full of liars in the pocket of crooked hillary)

irl lol at this

intheblanks, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:06 (seven years ago) link

during the debate can Hillary just ask him "do you know how many amendments there are?"

frogbs, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:07 (seven years ago) link

I can totally imagine Trump skipping the debates entirely. I mean, why would he even want to participate? He's got very little to gain by giving Hillary even the chance to look awesome compared to this rotten carrot.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:09 (seven years ago) link

i can see that too, but trump loves being on tv, and he did basically "win" all the GOP debates (whatever that means). With that in mind, I don't think he'll sit out the first debate.

intheblanks, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:16 (seven years ago) link

If he refuses, then he is afraid of a WOMAN.

For this happened a Zweigelt (doo dah), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:29 (seven years ago) link

I read that as "shit out the first debate."

this is a salad for the BALSAMIC REVIVAL (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:29 (seven years ago) link

lol ppl u cant quit the debates unless youre just resigned to losing i guess, its liking wearing a sign around yr neck that says coward for the rest of the campaign

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:38 (seven years ago) link

it wld not be like trump skipping one of the 25 debates during the primaries there are 3 of these things scheduled

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:39 (seven years ago) link

tho even that turned into a minor fire trump had to put out

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:39 (seven years ago) link

Like if Trump signs on for three and decides to stop showing up after one it's not like Hilary's not going to go up there and answer Gwen Ifil's questions

Sean, let me be clear (silby), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:41 (seven years ago) link

its not like hillary and her whole team wldnt clown him for it every day for the rest of the campaign, which just to compound things this is a guy whos entire message strategy and platform is "winning"

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:43 (seven years ago) link

i mean its a non starter folks forget about it!

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:43 (seven years ago) link

challenging him to more debates then clowning him for refusing wld be super tite tho

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:44 (seven years ago) link

btw ppl online have been trying to figure out if this fired speechwriter is a real person for hours

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:48 (seven years ago) link

my guess she is real, not really fired

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:49 (seven years ago) link

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:50 (seven years ago) link

this campaign has some good conspiracy theories http://www.inc.com/jeff-bercovici/peter-thiel-donald-trump-crazy.html

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:52 (seven years ago) link

i suspect that trump will do one debate then embarrass himself trying to find excuses to avoid the others.

by all rights the debates should be his waterloo, and there's no way he'll come off well, but i can also imagine clinton fucking them up and making it all a wash.

wizzz! (amateurist), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:55 (seven years ago) link

the media will seize on one or two dumb misstatements by clinton and put them in the same news piece as all the nonsense that flows from trump's mouth and talk about how "both candidates had their strong and weaker moments."

wizzz! (amateurist), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:56 (seven years ago) link

It's much easier to imagine Obama stumbling (as he did once in 2012) than HRC. She's prepared for this shit.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:57 (seven years ago) link

my feeling is the debates will prob go clintons way and theres a YUGE downside risk for trump

lag∞n, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 22:58 (seven years ago) link

Agree with lag∞n, skipping even one debate is untenable. McCain tried to wrap the idea around national duty during the bank meltdown, and he was ridiculed for even that. Multiply that exponentially for Trump.
