Also, Trump will do all the debates b/c there's no way he will miss out primetime network coverage, but the GOP types will be gaming the refs harder than they ever did four years ago no matter who asks the candidates what questions and how milquetoast they phrase it

Which I should mention makes me wonder how she'll hold up during 3 90-120min debates. Clinton survived 15+ fuckin' hours of the (latest) Benghazi panel staffed with the largest sets of clown shoes Congress could find.

Dem convention should just be three days of replaying the RNC on a big screen with the guys from MST3K doing audio.

Didn't Comedy Central do something like this back in the '92 or 96 seasons? Also, you'd have to get Joel back to hosting as Mike Nelson(and his wife) have reportedly somewhat more disagreeable political leanings

― Sentient animated cat gif (kingfish)

i want to know if nelson is still on the republican train. you know, he's still funny- how long can you ride that train before you baio out? i'd like to think that mike nelson is one of those guys who will very earnestly and enthusiastically tell you that gary johnson is a really good candidate, really, and you should definitely think about him. but i don't know!

"She survived by keeping this face the whole time"

probably good of her to get the practice in

The Democrats should throw the aide who tried to resign today up on the big screen, with everyone in the building thrusting their fists in the air and chanting "LOCK HER UP! LOCK HER UP!" This is bloodsport--you can't be passive.

To paraphrase John McGiver in Breakfast at Tiffany's, you can't really fire Hillary Clinton at this point, I don't think, unless there were some job she currently held in order to have some object from which to enact the firing.

"America...deserves...better"--test-driving more election-friendly chants than "LOCK HER UP!"

(As I type, of course, I can hear "jail" in the background.)

guy at NRO: Just read Cruz transcript. He will not endorse Trump or even say his name.

jon favreau (obama speechwriter): Just read @newtgingrich's speech. If you don't want your children to have nightmares, I'd put them to bed soon.

8 Whisps (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:33 (seven years ago) link

I guess not mentioning Trump is statement enough. But even allowing for all the stuff that goes on in primaries, I'm kind of amazed Cruz would even participate after all the ridicule. I'd do what Bush is doing and stay away.

clemenza, Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:33 (seven years ago) link

i don't know if that's true tbh

cruz has chutzpah, if nothing else.

wizzz! (amateurist), Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:35 (seven years ago) link

i mean not endorsing trump. but cruz is only here to build support for his 2020 run

arts and crafts THIS GUY (daria-g), Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:36 (seven years ago) link

What do these chumps make of the fact that both the Dallas police shooter and the Baton Rouge shooter were military vets?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:38 (seven years ago) link

(xpost) He should give up on that. Primary voters (and party establishment) wouldn't even rally around him as an alternative to Trump. He's just too creepy and disliked to ever get the nomination.

clemenza, Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:38 (seven years ago) link

Creepy and Disliked is basically the GOP platform.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:39 (seven years ago) link

wow, that Ingraham video, I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt on stuff that gets gif-ed or otherwise removed from its context, but that really seemed like a white power dog whistle

intheblanks, Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:40 (seven years ago) link

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:43 (seven years ago) link

was there a thing w/ingraham where a pic of trump was onscreen, with him making the same gesture? can't tell if that happened or was just twitter people putting images together

arts and crafts THIS GUY (daria-g), Thursday, 21 July 2016 01:43 (seven years ago) link

(xposts) I know, but you know what I mean--even within the context of the Republican party, at a moment when Trump was sliding and could have/should have finally fallen apart, primary voters looked over and said "Uh...no way." I think he'd have close to zero chance of winning in 2020. (Which doesn't mean he isn't indeed there with an eye to 2020--I don't think he got the message.)
