It's not really a trait we look for in our politicians, particularly the ones we disagree with

wonder if trump had just suck to calling him lyin ted while leaving his family out of it he gotten him on board

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:18 (seven years ago) link

cruz really got under his skin lol

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:18 (seven years ago) link

I'm watching the cruz speech now and i haven't gotten to the "vote your conscience" yet but this doesn't seem particularly anti-trump yet, he even says "yes, build a wall" at one point

k3vin k., Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:19 (seven years ago) link

Ted Cruz is a dominionist death-cultist like the rest but I really can't help but respect having a shred of self-respect, I should find someone else to have positive feelings about today to avoid further cognitive dissonance

report back when ur done (i only watched the end) xp

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:21 (seven years ago) link

if Cruz manages to make Trump spend tonight relitigating the primaries for the thousandth time it'll look like a masterstroke of psychological warfare

Sean, let me be clear (silby), Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:21 (seven years ago) link

I'm excited for the prospect of Trump going way off script regardless of what lunatic direction he take it

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:22 (seven years ago) link

i want to see trump stumbling attempting to read a halfway sane speech off the teleprompter then cut loose and go rouge on cruz for 45 mins

lag∞n, Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:23 (seven years ago) link

I'm crossing my fingers for an audience demanding that Lyin' Ted be jailed in the same cell as Crooked Hillary

based stress reduction (crüt), Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:24 (seven years ago) link

suspect well see some other pointed never trump moments before this is over, tho obvs its hard to compete with the drama of assassinating a guy at his own coronation

― lag∞n

would recommend retiring that metaphor as it is too confusing

big rave warrior (rushomancy), Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:25 (seven years ago) link

i mean there's definitely a sense of him trying to make the case that he was a better choice than trump, but he spent the first 18 minutes bashing hillary and obama and then tells people not to stay home, and to vote their conscience, to vote for people who will stay faithful to the constitution -- unless you think he's suggesting they write his name in or vote johnson, that sort of only leaves trump

k3vin k., Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:25 (seven years ago) link

hes telling them to not vote for trump

i don't think this does much for cruz in the future. whatever they might say, republicans don't like someone who takes a brave stand against the tide, they are the tide. this shows cruz's worst qualities: whiner, messiah complex, loudmouth, disloyal.

he's an unctuous debate team goober, and all this shit about taking a stand because his wife and father were insulted sounds like some shit you'd tell the vice principal after you got caught spray painting the bully's car

goole, Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:27 (seven years ago) link

i watched the whole cruz speech; it's abundantly vile. he more or less cops to every racist and classist impulse that trump proclaims but he says it in more flowery language. the reason he's bucking the party unity has nothing to do with his sense of ethics or what's right; it's because he's a vicious wax hobgoblin with a martyr complex.

thrusted pelvis-first back (ulysses), Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:27 (seven years ago) link

he sets up those last few minutes by saying why republicans are good and democrats are bad, and then tells everyone to go out and vote. obv he's tacitly endorsing the republican nominee

k3vin k., Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:27 (seven years ago) link

xxxxpost he said "up and down the ballot" which reads as "make sure you vote for GOP candidates, but maybe just skip a Presidential vote"

well he'll definitely stay faithful to article xii

"vote your conscience" is a phrase that is often used by the #NeverTrump camp

Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:29 (seven years ago) link

kev there is no way he's endorsing the republican nominee w/ that speech, if that weren't obvious within the speech itself it's obvious w/ the aftermath

The first 18 mins?

How long was Cruz' speech?

On the news this morn, the only bit they showed was him saying "I took part in something beautiful' which seemed somewhat nutty but irrelevant.

another day of trump not having control of his event though. which has been every day of this thing?

at least credit cruz with a higher level of literacy; trump and his people ostensibly read this thing and couldn't tell what was in front of them.

i mean clearly he doesn't "endorse" trump, i don't think anyone expected him to, but it wasn't as forceful a non-endorsement as it's being made out to be. and unless the "vote your conscience" line has a LOT of layers of meaning that i'm not grasping, he's not really telling people not to vote for trump. kind of feel like people are being messy b-words that love the drama tbh

k3vin k., Thursday, 21 July 2016 15:34 (seven years ago) link

Ted Cruz probably doesn't particularly care who people vote for, other than himself.

this whole thing is so, so strange. they knew what was going to happen, they (should have) known it would overshadow else everything at the convention, and yet they went through with it anyway?

and yeah "at face value" it sounds like he's basically saying, "yeah, vote Trump because Republicans have better principles" but there's a lot of subtext here. it still felt like a pretty big "fuck you" to me and Trump's tweet this morning pretty much confirms that's the way he's taking it
