Union Square is horrible why would you want to go there? it is never "dead"
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link
I mean unless you have the need to shop at Macy's or Niketown or something
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:04 (sixteen years ago) link
H&M has nice coats also its the only bart station i can access from the 38 easily.

Union Square is horrible why would you want to go there?
that was my impression before I'd been there, but when I walked through it, it was more attractive than expected, and seemed a decent place to stop briefly and people-watch

when they paved over the "park" in union sq. wtf??
― dell, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:21 (sixteen years ago) link
? when was that? I don't remember there ever being a park there, I've lived here for 11 years.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:22 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah union sq is nothing spesh unless they changed it drastically from last time i was there
― get bent, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:22 (sixteen years ago) link
assuming that by "park" you mean grass and trees and shrubberies
x-post
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:23 (sixteen years ago) link
I assume s/he means the area that they filmed the opening of The Conversation which could loosely be called a park and which has changed a bit since they filmed that.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:29 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah, i mean it wasn't like grassy napping destination, but, they made all the "let's discourage homeless people from loitering here" changes that just made it depressing
― dell, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:33 (sixteen years ago) link
There used to be a lot more grass until they 'renovated' it starting in '98 until that was finished in '02. It's a whole lot uglier now than it used to be.
dell OTM re: homeless
― Michael White, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:34 (sixteen years ago) link
huh - shows how much time I spend there
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:37 (sixteen years ago) link
i ate at Dosa this weekend. It was pretty good although overpriced for what it was.
― akm, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:38 (sixteen years ago) link
we're going there on Saturday (couldn't get a reservation at Delfina, bah!) I like Dosa a lot, one of only a few places in SF where you can get South Indian cooking.

THE CHEESESTEAK PLACE BY MY HOUSE IS THE SHIT
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:44 (sixteen years ago) link
Jay's, right...?
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:45 (sixteen years ago) link
"i ate at Dosa this weekend. It was pretty good although overpriced for what it was."
I have never thought that about Dosa. I think it's pretty comparable with most good Indian fare in the city.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:48 (sixteen years ago) link
no the yellow one on divizz. jay's is good too but i prefer the vegie cheesesteaks there! the other one is real dead meaty good.
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:49 (sixteen years ago) link
It's on Divis and Post, right?
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:49 (sixteen years ago) link
That one's good, but I prefer Jay's. I cannot eat Seitan or whatever the fuck it's called.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:50 (sixteen years ago) link
yah post and divis! thats where i live basically! cant find good burritos around here though :(
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:50 (sixteen years ago) link
I usually eat at dirt cheap indian restaurants in berkeley so that was my point of comparison for price. they are good but not "nice", particularly.
anyway, yeah, recommended.
― akm, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:51 (sixteen years ago) link
(xpost)It's true, you cannot. :(
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:51 (sixteen years ago) link
Not that I can either. Not without walking ten or so blocks anyway.
On the other hand I can eat German just by opening my front door so yay me!
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:52 (sixteen years ago) link
Ocean Taqueria a couple shops down from the cheesesteak shop is decent but not balls out amazing.
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:52 (sixteen years ago) link
Do you eat at Eric's (or is it Eliza's?), chaki? I've never been to the one there, but the one in Noe Valley (or Potrero) is really good.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:55 (sixteen years ago) link
Apparently it's called Eliza's there haha.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:56 (sixteen years ago) link
The Chinese place?
― Michael White, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:57 (sixteen years ago) link
Yup.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:57 (sixteen years ago) link
Apparently there is some sordid story about the Eliza-Eric split, but the waiter at Eliza's would only tell us that Eric's RIPPED THEM OFF, AND THEY WERE FIRST SO DON'T EAT THERE, OKAY!
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago) link
i have not! where is that in relation to me?
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago) link
It's on California between Divis and uh Baker, right?
oh shit thats close! i will go try. i havent ventured too far in that direction! im still new! i usually eat at the cable car burgers and honeybaked ham store lol munchies.
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:00 (sixteen years ago) link
Trying to remember what else is in the area. Have you been to Blue Jay Cafe? It's pretty decent (esp. for breakfast), but I haven't been since I moved out of that neighborhood. Waziema was my favorite restaurant when I lived off Divis, but that's also a ways from where you live.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link
nah blue jay and waiziema are both easy walks! i havent been to either though! i pass by blue jay when i go to Eddie's for breakfast which is CHEAP and good. how is the bar at waiziema?
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:05 (sixteen years ago) link
Beer and wine only, I think.
― Michael White, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:10 (sixteen years ago) link
honeybaked ham store lol munchies
hahahaha - I have always kinda marvelled at there being a store that traffics ONLY IN HONEYBAKED HAMS
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:14 (sixteen years ago) link
epic sandwiches (turkey and roastbeef too) and two salads for $5.50 out the door.
― chaki, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:18 (sixteen years ago) link
Have any of you ever been to May's on 14th at Market for sandwiches?
― Michael White, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:19 (sixteen years ago) link
Nope. I can't even picture where that is and I'm at that intersection all the time.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link
Sorry, M & L Market.
― Michael White, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:32 (sixteen years ago) link
I'll have to try that. It sounds good.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:36 (sixteen years ago) link
Actually it sounds kind of like Quincy's.
― Alex in SF, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:37 (sixteen years ago) link
hmm that looks vaguely familiar - I think I was there once years and years ago
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 23:37 (sixteen years ago) link
Except people at Quincy's are friendly.
They're not really unfriendly.
