On a Raqqa tip (ShariVari), Saturday, 13 August 2016 21:13 (eight years ago) link

That sounds safe

Frederik B, Saturday, 13 August 2016 21:18 (eight years ago) link

that nadal/other guy final was pretty intense

jason waterfalls (gbx), Saturday, 13 August 2016 21:21 (eight years ago) link

lol that other guy is a really great player who's been injured lately

Darya Klishina is out as well. 'New evidence'.

Frederik B, Saturday, 13 August 2016 21:49 (eight years ago) link

i heard! i watched the match with a buddy of mine who actually follows tennis --- i had forgotten so much about the rules/basic gameplay, it was a little embarrassing. otoh, i now think i should probably watch tennis more often??

jason waterfalls (gbx), Saturday, 13 August 2016 21:49 (eight years ago) link

tennis rules. should be lots of great tennis on TV the next month leading up to and including the U.S. open

Olga Kharlan fenced beautifully for Ukraine but Russia were totally dominant from the start. 45-30 in the end.

Man I want puig to win this so bad

Spottie, Saturday, 13 August 2016 22:02 (eight years ago) link

Puig up a break in the final set

Spottie, Saturday, 13 August 2016 22:19 (eight years ago) link

Puig gold for Puerto Rico!

Spottie, Saturday, 13 August 2016 22:52 (eight years ago) link

PUIIIG

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 13 August 2016 22:52 (eight years ago) link

Sad to miss Puig -- was out this afternoon with a visiting friend -- but settled in now to see Farah hopefully do the damn thing (again).

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 August 2016 00:29 (eight years ago) link

OK. Mo Farah wins, I can go to bed now.

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Sunday, 14 August 2016 00:57 (eight years ago) link

that was great

estela, Sunday, 14 August 2016 00:58 (eight years ago) link

Just superb. All time now, what a legend.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 August 2016 00:59 (eight years ago) link

Long jump is a nail-biter

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:07 (eight years ago) link

Saw start of mo race but was snoozing for the finish :(

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:12 (eight years ago) link

I know very little of Mo Farah, but he looks like the coolest person to have as a friend.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:12 (eight years ago) link

Crazy crazy long jump

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:18 (eight years ago) link

Wow what the hell.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:22 (eight years ago) link

Mo farahs last lap was only 1 second slower than the last lap of that 800m heat I think

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:27 (eight years ago) link

and if you have a finish like that, they really have to try and hurt you a lot earlier in the race

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:29 (eight years ago) link

Glad he didn't win. He's the most garlanded Olympian simply because there are far too many swimming events.
--Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_)

Uh and because he's the greatest swimmer ever.

― One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF)

Right! And. The greatest pole vaulter ever isn't going to have as many medals. Even if they were a better pole vaulter than Phelps is a swimmer.

really the idea here is never to compare between disciplines.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:31 (eight years ago) link

Rudisha is so boss

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:32 (eight years ago) link

Women's 100 coming up

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:35 (eight years ago) link

Scorcher

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:42 (eight years ago) link

Stellar. Thompson had that from the get-go.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:46 (eight years ago) link

SAFP didn't have the greatest start there

Rae Kwoniff (NickB), Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:48 (eight years ago) link

So if I understand Fraser ran with a toe injury?

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 14 August 2016 01:54 (eight years ago) link

Every 4 years Mo makes up for those Quorn adverts.

ewar woowar (or something), Sunday, 14 August 2016 02:05 (eight years ago) link

So long Phelps, gonna be strange without you.

Van Horn Street, Sunday, 14 August 2016 02:16 (eight years ago) link

this bong rip's for you my native son

circa1916, Sunday, 14 August 2016 02:23 (eight years ago) link

i'd like to get some good quality wigs to these olympic sprinters

fraser-pryce's yellow shake-n-go hurts my heart.

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 14 August 2016 03:32 (eight years ago) link

The field for the women's 100 was wall to wall stone-cold killers, any of them coild have won & it would have been awesome but Thompson made it look so damn easy. Love her.

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 14 August 2016 05:12 (eight years ago) link

Women's 100 was so good. Really liked that simple little feature nbc did on Tori Bowie yesterday. Grats to her on the silver. English Gardner looked way intense.

Phelps will be back for Tokyo no doubt. Take a couple/few years off then itch for it again then start getting all the sponsorship offers and he won't be able to deny it. Pick a few events get two more golds for a cool 25

Spottie, Sunday, 14 August 2016 06:22 (eight years ago) link

Yeah English Gardner seemed like she was wound mighty tight

I am v excited for the Men's 400 final tomorrow. Van Niekirk is my personal fave to win, he's so relaxed! But Merritt & James will be good watching too. All of them really. same as the 100 the field is full of killers

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 14 August 2016 06:49 (eight years ago) link

I can't see Phelps staying out unless he pulls some deep "gonna go be a cobbler now" business. Maybe having a kid has changed him tho, will be interesting to see

That final relay was pretty dope.

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 14 August 2016 06:51 (eight years ago) link

First gold medal to Denmark! Pernille Blume wins gold in 50 m freestyle. She then went on to win bronze as part of the medley team.

Frederik B, Sunday, 14 August 2016 11:31 (eight years ago) link

So pleased for the Danish women's medley team - this is Jeanette Ottesen's 4th Olympics and she's finally got a medal. The team's been tipped for a while but Pernille was always the 'weak link'; this year she's totally stepped up. Awesome!

katstevens, Sunday, 14 August 2016 13:52 (eight years ago) link

mo farah's 10k was on some fictional chariots of fire shit

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 14 August 2016 13:56 (eight years ago) link

yay danish ladies!

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 14 August 2016 13:57 (eight years ago) link

Yeah. People had been writing stories about how the whole generation of swimmers had underperformed because they weren't getting medals at neither this olympics nor London, and then, bam, two on the last day!

Frederik B, Sunday, 14 August 2016 14:01 (eight years ago) link

xxp they kept on referring to some Kenya plan to disrupt Farah during the NBC broadcast and I was like "was the plan to let him relax for 24 laps and then let him smoke you for the last two, because if so SUCCESS!"

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Sunday, 14 August 2016 14:49 (eight years ago) link

Also English Gardner easily the angriest looking English Gardner ever. Seriously she should probably take up a relaxing hobby like gardening.

One bad call from barely losing to (Alex in SF), Sunday, 14 August 2016 14:51 (eight years ago) link

Kenyans: we have a plan
Farah: *accelerates*
Kenyans: nvm

Great women's marathon final just now -- only could catch the end of it but Sumgong holding off Kirwa was a bravura performance, and US in sixth/seventh is pretty solid.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 August 2016 14:58 (eight years ago) link

Russian synchronized swimming routine just now was pretty amazing

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 14 August 2016 16:15 (eight years ago) link

Annoying thing when you follow a bunch of Americans on Twitter, there was zero mention of who actually won the marathon, just that Americans finished top 10.

Jeff, Sunday, 14 August 2016 16:18 (eight years ago) link

Olympic Golf, who'd've thought that would be of any interest? Down to the last hole. Stenson v. Rose. Both 17 under.
