Hasnt he been gone for fnyears?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Friday, 28 June 2019 04:20 (five years ago) link

nah I feel like he peaced within the last year

flappy bird, Friday, 28 June 2019 04:54 (five years ago) link

June/July 2018 but it's been limited, he dropped off FB as well

Ambient Police (sleeve), Friday, 28 June 2019 04:55 (five years ago) link

been limited for a while, I meant to say

Ambient Police (sleeve), Friday, 28 June 2019 04:56 (five years ago) link

and I miss him lots

Ambient Police (sleeve), Friday, 28 June 2019 04:56 (five years ago) link

The unlimited fount of LPs Scott Seward kept discovering and getting excited about was indeed inspirational and I quite miss that seemed-like-it-would-never end QUICK! What's on the Turntable RIGHT NOW? thread. I hope a life selling the things has not started to take its toll.

scott is the best and i hope he's out there off the internet doing cool things as usual

I liked his taste in books, too.

Scott was, is, and will forever remain awesome.

Hope he is doing well

I miss Lex. His taste generally could not be more different than mine and his argument style sometimes frustrated me, but this is a poorer place for his absence.

Mazzy Tsar (PBKR), Friday, 28 June 2019 15:03 (five years ago) link

Mixed feelings: anyone not sharing his particular enthusiasms was deemed ‘negative’, he was sometimes over-dismissive of other people’s views, and he was quick to denounce people as ‘idiots’ when tbh they were sometimes posting at a higher level of knowledge.

Luna Schlosser, Friday, 28 June 2019 15:19 (five years ago) link

xp I've learned so much over the years from ILM as a whole and from a great many posters with crazy levels of specialized knowledge, but to me Scott was maximum ILM: deep knowledge of way too many genres, extraordinarily wide taste, and endless listening enthusiasm. Scott, we salute you.

Brad C., Friday, 28 June 2019 16:06 (five years ago) link

Lex was awful

Scott was great

Οὖτις, Friday, 28 June 2019 16:20 (five years ago) link

I will prefer to believe Scott just found better things to do

Οὖτις, Friday, 28 June 2019 16:21 (five years ago) link

lex was the ying to geir hongro's yang. both strident warriors for pop music as they understood it. both kind of annoying, though lex has the upper hand because i guess if you shared his enthusiasms his posts were good to read?

most infuriating aspect of lex's posting for me: posts about how he literally could not cook a meal, and him not enjoying literally anything that could be classed as comedy.

scott seward is a canonical ilx poster, hope his lack of posting means he's busy doing something better.

I like the dogs vs. children lex debate.

imagine looking at mr potato head and having no idea what he represented

i will never make a typo ever again (Karl Malone), Friday, 28 June 2019 16:34 (five years ago) link

Well, heads don't have arms so the whole thing is very confusing.

Evan, Friday, 28 June 2019 16:36 (five years ago) link

Lex's most irritating habit was to loudly and proudly proclaim his ignorance about all manner of things, as if it was some kind of bold political stance and not the braying of a cloistered moron

Οὖτις, Friday, 28 June 2019 16:53 (five years ago) link

how’d you like it if someone brayed your cloisters bud

flopson, Friday, 28 June 2019 16:55 (five years ago) link

the potato story is ill-told in that post

mark s, Friday, 28 June 2019 17:00 (five years ago) link

Lex was one of the few posters I was aware of before coming on here as he had written a mean review of a friend's music, and I found him objectionable at first, however I have come around to his pov on quite a lot of music since then. Only thing I'd stick on is his enthusiasm for hating things, it seemed like his main motivation when it came to music and this is something I will never get my head around. Some of his posts are absolute gold of course.

Although he pops up on very rare occasions, I miss the urbane, humorous, compassionate and sensible presence of Michael White.

Judging from twitter, Lex is a good cook now, and has even cooked potatoes? Could probably get him back if there was an I Love Tennis.

Lex was v v otm on stand-up comedy.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 28 June 2019 17:12 (five years ago) link

lex just disliked "comedy" writ large tho

VAR me to the end of yawn (jim in vancouver), Friday, 28 June 2019 17:18 (five years ago) link

obv standup is mainly vile

VAR me to the end of yawn (jim in vancouver), Friday, 28 June 2019 17:18 (five years ago) link

Thought it was mostly stand-up. His sense of comedy wasn't the greatest - I remember praise for Marina Hyde.

But given how reactionary so many of those ppl are...his instincts on it were otm.
